    Besides- that ish sounded dope, and you'll only get better. I think it's awesome that you're experimenting outside of your comfort zone. That's how we grow as artist.

    I've been playing bass for 40 years and I recently bought my first groovebox and man did I feel lost! I'm learning a new instrument and it's frustrating and delightful. Seeing someone like you who uses the tech so effortlessly have a go at something like bass is just awesome to watch. And your playing sounds just fine to me.

    If you want the wood to show with low gloss, tung oil is the finish you want linseed oil also works.

  • @MarkGutierrez

    I'm a luthier and a synth addict. Easiest way to seal the the body and back of neck against humidity is an oil and wax finish. Hop on Amazon and search for Tung oil. Any type of furniture paste wax will do. If the bass is never leaving your studio you don't have to worry about extreme humidity or temperature changes. For the headstock shape. Use a pencil to draw your design right on it and buy the cheapest jigsaw on Amazon. Once you've cut your rough shape, sand the cut edges until smooth. Then oil and wax the headstock. Don't worry about the pickups. They will do the job. Peace!

    My man, this is fkin dope. I too am a Covid-era beatmaker turned instrumentalist. I used to make boombap and trip-hop but last year I fixed an old childhood guitar and started playing and practicing every day. On March 1st I completed 365 consecutive days of practice. Not only did my playing get off the ground, but my music theory knowledge exploded; I make indie music now and I'm able to generate samples for myself. I hope you stick to the bass like glue bro, because it can add so much to your life. Peace!

    @outdatedgear5036 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Not sure what you’re skill set in music theory is, but what I’ve been told is if you can play piano you can play anything. I started playing guitar and moved to bass. Then synths and music production. I feel like playing bass helped me go a long way with beats.

On the flip side I’ve just started sampling and making beats and have NO idea what I’m doing lol - Great video - inspired:)

    I’ve always had guitars in my house since early. My playing is awful but I only ever need to play a maximum of 2 bars at a time.
    Good to have an acoustic, an electric (I’ve got a semi-hollow 339 type) and a bass when recording. Sometimes the sample you need doesn’t exist yet.

    Also a bass player, also approve. I have to say that I believe that tone is more in the fingers and less the instrument. I have a Fender Jazz Bass that is worth a lot of money. I also have a cheap Dean. I love them both and can get good sounds out of both.

    Getting out of the comfort zone is a big oportunity IMO. I'm actually a guitarist that thought "hey I like guitars, let's learn electrical engineering to make guitars pedals lol" so I entered engineering school and noticed that an engineer is actually qualified to a lot more than that and got into synths and grooveboxes and all that good stuff. Now that I bought my first midi controller and I'm trying to make whole songs with more than one instrument I'm starting to really get how important rhythm is and how useful was the drummer when I played in a band hahahaha

    Accurate , let me give you some cool advice , with a guitar or bass , generally the root note is the first note on most riffs , here’s the interesting thing , your index finger is the master navigator amongst all riffs :- it’s usually the “ one to the floor“ opening note ... in other words - the index finger is the boss !!
    Good luck Mr x

  • @FunkyRob

    I would draw a line in pencil just use a grinding wheel to try to reshape that headstock. If you don't have access to any tools like that, just get some sand paper and slowly round it out some. That square shape is kind of freaky looking.
    If you like the natural look of the wood, mask off whatever you can since you've already assembled it and buy a can of Rust-Oleum matte clear paint.

    Great to see that you're well and expanding your horizons with instruments, Accurate. I recently bought my first electric Stratocaster to use on an album project that I'm working on, even though I'm not really a guitar player. I have a Boss RC505 so I've used it to loop my playing and layer guitar tones, using the effects in the RC505 to make it sound better. Starting with a cheap beginner's guitar is the best way to dip your toes into the guitar world. I look forward to seeing and hearing your progress

  • @svenningk
    @svenningk 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is nice! When you play the bass line on a physical bass it gels with the virtual instruments and the synths in a particular way that wouldn't happen if it was just another bass plugin. I find myself that when I add physical bass guitar and maybe some audio outtake from my synths in addition to the virtual synths and instruments, the whole track takes on a more analog and warmer quality...also the bass sound and feel different when you play it like that and it gives a feeling of life to the beat or song, wich I find work well in some tracks. Youre surprisingly steady and tight with your bass line and I cant believe this was your first go at it. Its evident that your background in production is a huge advantage when it comes to arrangements and how you figure out your bass lines and arrangements. Great to see you pick up the bass, looking forward to see future use. You probably cant tell from my enthusiasm that I'm a bassist haha. Great vid and beat!

    To shape the headstock just take a bandsaw to it. Also, try staining the wood and giving it a clear-coat, that'll really let the natural beauty of the wood show.

  • @MasaTheSlayer
    @MasaTheSlayer 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hope it wont be shit, mainly neckboard. On that price you could have bought decent used one, but if something that don't look so bad and it sounds like a bass so, probably better than nothing. So keep on playing! Also not sure if it worth to change those mics, maybe, but really keep "watching" how that fretboard act's so it keeps it's shape and that fret irons wont start rising or popping out and that you don't hurt your hands on those, if they rise. And I mean down of your fingers/palm which meets freatboard. But yeah for price of that or price of better micks you could probably get better used bass, but it's still nice project if not anything else. :)

    I actually kind of like the bass as it is now. No need to try and make it look fancy. I've been playing guitar for 35+ years and some of my favorite guitars are cheaper guitars that play well. I have a few Harley Benton's for that reason. Really affordable and great players. I think keeping the bass a natural wood with that big boat paddle style headstock looks kind of cool. If it plays & sounds good for you and stays in tune your golden.

      Yes, that’s right, I’m using the Apollo x8 now.
      I got an opportunity to try out Luna (UA’s DAW) in conjunction with the Apollo x8 and now I love having the extra processing power that the Apollo interface provides for UA’s plugins. The audiofuse studio is a great audio interface and I can’t recommend it enough though. Nothing went wrong, I really don’t have anything negative to say about the AF Studio :)
      My plan is to use it for my secondary setup as soon as that’s up and running but the Apollo is the main interface I’m using right now.
      Hope that helps :)
