  • Baked Beans Recipe with notes and suggestions
6 cups Navy beans, drained & rinsed (see notes)
    1 cup chopped onions
    2 Tbsp garlic
15 oz can no salt added tomato sauce
    ½ cup yellow mustard
½ cup maple syrup (Can use a flavored syrup such as cherry)
    ½ cup vegetable broth
    1 capful liquid smoke
1.5 Tbsp salt free steak seasoning
1.5 Tbsp salt free BBQ seasoning
    1 tsp black pepper
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Mix all ingredients together then add to a 9X13 pan and cook for
60 minutes. Let rest for 15 minutes before serving or freeze for future use.
Notes: you can cook the beans ahead on an electric pressure cooker. I used a 1 lb bag of navy beans and added them to my pressure cooker with 8 cups of water. Cooked for 25 minutes on the bean setting and letting them naturally release when done. I cooled the beans overnight, but you can drain and use right away.
You can use a combination of different beans such as pinto, navy, kidney or great Northern beans.
I like to freeze in smaller portions for quick meals or camping.
Serving suggestion: I will serve my beans over a baked potato with a side of steamed broccoli.
Joe will serve his as a side with grilled meat and a baked potato.

Just curious... I saw Joe taste it first without the bacon and then with the bacon. Joe, is there a big difference in taste with the bacon or without? Love what you both teach us. And I am happy to do your dishes if you cook for me!!!!! PS for the summer, maybe a bbq 1Dish2Ways?!?

Hello, I would eat the dish either way. The beans were very good. I did eat them at the potluck dinner we had. If you made these and did not make it known, I don't think anyone would tell the difference. I've had many versions of baked beans; they all have a flavor of their own but still good.

@@1Dish2Ways, I was wondering!!! I used to LOVE cheese but stopped eating it when I realized I wasn't tasting it in certain meals (like parmesan on spaghetti or a slice of American in a flavorful sandwich). I figured if I wasn't even tasting it, why bother adding the extra calories? I had a similar thing happen with oil. Just looking at the beans Sheila was making, I thought they would be delicious without anything added. I definitely have to make that recipe someday soon!
