2024 still love ABBA…not just the great music and vocals, but them…the smiles on their faces…they show the love for their audiences, their expressions, body movements…they did not destroy themselves with drugs…even today, you can see and feel their love for their music and fans… they are truly global artists and great people…

But if you write songs eight hours a day every day for a year, you might write 5 great songs amongst them . We knew that“. That shows you, how much work went into that career..
i'm 63 yrs old now...the mighty zep, aerosmith, foghat, and so many other classic rocks bands were the only thing i would listen to as a teen...then abba came along...then it became my guilty pleasure...and i never would have told my buds...they would have beat the shit outta me...thing is, they were probably listening to it too...hypocrisy runs rampant...and what gets me about abba is that they truly were about the music....oh, i'm sure they took the money, however...but to truly b intrinsically motivated...to do what u do regardless of a payday...now that's living!...i can relate to that b/c that's the way i've always been...i came out just fine...the "money makers" aren't doing so fine these days...well, those that are still living...i metered my life...i still do...and i'll b around for quite a while, b/c i still have a few other things i want to do...i am that intrisically motivated person...i listen to no one...i only listen to me...it's cool to like abba...it really is...imma a man with an edge...but i'd take this music over grunge, gangsta rap, metal, hip hop, punk - - u name it...anything short is to b narrow minded.

Fabulous band , the girls had such complimentary voices and of course they were very attractive . I always think if Agnetha had not been a singer she would have made a perfect Miss Sweden , Miss World , she had that typical Scandinavian beauty . I loved them back in the day and still do .
I have to laugh because the last line in the documentary that said a reunion would never happen was oh so wrong. In 2021, pigs began to fly. Abba is back and thank you for bringing back the music! We get to take another Voyage with this classic group....and I can't wait!

In early days she was happy but never wanted world fame. When she became a mother, powerful instincts took over and slowed their pace. Maybe some of the other members, including her "husband" Bjorn got frustrated by her switch of ambition from work to motherhood as her priority. She did have an uncanny ability to project emotion and expression in her voice and face. True artist, composed her own songs but became shadowed by Benny and Bjorn's writing. But ..later in life she dealt with deep sadness and loss, abandoned by Bjorn. Threw out of a tour bus window in a crash and thrown around upside down in a plane during terrible turbulence. Then the awful tragic suicide of her mum who showed the early signs of dementia, then lost her Dad not long after. But reinvented herself on her own terms. Some say she still wanted ABBA to break just for a while and then come back but Benny and Bjorn chucked her and Frida in the bin bcs they wanted to write Musicals. Idiots. Could have resolved that. Released the musicals on record with Agnetha and Frida doing their fabulous vocals combo. Those two women were amazing artists in their own right. But maybe too much water under the bridge for the fur of them to work again. But Agnetha was one the most finest, intelligent, sensitive, talented, strong minded and stunning, beautiful women of her time.

But Frida and Agnetha are the ones who gave the songs such power and projection. The guys were the engine but the ladies were the high octane fuel and shape and elegance of their musical vehicle. Abba would be just a fleeting sound if it wasn't for Agnetha and Frida's power, beauty, their presence vocally and physically.

Wow! You thought ABBA was a Rock Band??? Most of their songs are categorized as some form of pop. But there are a handful of songs categorized as Rock, Pop rock, and Disco.
The documentary makes it look like ABBA was completely unsuccessful in the United States except for “dancing queen” which is just not true. They had 14 top 40 hits in the USA which was pretty good. Nowhere near KC and the sunshine band, the Bee Gees, Donna summer, and Olivia Newton-John during that same time, but that was because all those singers and groups actually toured the United States. Touring was tantamount to success in the United States and Abba only did it once and by that time it was probably too late
They were also heavily influenced by Tamla-Motown that what it's known in Europe. If you can check out 60 Minutes Australia. You'll see Frida singing Baby Love in Sweden. Phil Spector also was a major influence on Xenomania who gave Girls Aloud a large majority of Their Hits.

Obviously this was made awhile ago. One of the last lines, there will need to be an ABBA reunion. But after 40 years, ABBA made a new album Voyage. I'm going to see ABBA the music in july. I feel like I'm going to see them. The shows are that good.

This was an okay documentary, it was just more surface level and didn’t go in depth that much. I watched a documentary about them a number of years ago that was really good and in depth, it kickstarted my love of their music but I can’t remember what what the title of it was. I’m sure it’s on TH-cam somewhere

Being young in Scandinavia, Norway, during this period, I heard them all day long, and I must admit I got fed up with them, even though I could enjoy hearing them in moderate amounts. I also remember having heard many of the songs in Swedish that the individuals had performed before they became ABBA, without knowing who song them. But the clarity of voice in their songs, is due to them pronouncing English like it were Swedish or Norwegian. ABBA might not appear politically correct outside Scandinavia. but from a Scandinavian perspective, they were extremely politically correct.
They were great! But a reunion today would be very disappointing. Their voices are Not as strong.... and they could not hit the high notes and harmonize like they use to do. But that's the way it is. Play the recordings and thank God we have those. And please don't get me started on the Mama Mia movies!! Meryl....Pierce....Andy Garcia......SINGING??? 😂😃😅😀😂

Very disappointing....and I love the guy! Just being honest. Most Singers in their 20's & 30's singing live sound much better than now in their 70's singing live. Im not saying this to dis ABBA. I love their music. Just an unfortunate fact. Have you heard Robert Plant live in the last 3 years? A far cry from what he sounded like back In the day. ABBA songs are VERY vocally demanding live. they were so lame....but at the same time....kinda great? i dont know...the basslines were very funky, the choruses were extremely catchy, and everything had an either melancholy or dark tone to it (even tho' it was supposed to sound like "happy-go-lucky tunes" on the surface)
I don't like this documentary. It is very US centric (ignoring, for instance, non-angoamerican influences on ABBA's music, focussing on Phil Spector without mentioning Michael Tretow ...) , and the story is mostly told by the worst types of people in the music business: journalists (from US journals like Rolling Stones who all had hounded and ridiculed ABBA in the 70s) and record label owners.

Being young in Scandinavia, Norway, during this period, I heard them all day long, and I must admit I got fed up with them, even though I could enjoy hearing them in moderate amounts. I also remember having heard many of the songs in Swedish that the individuals had performed before they became ABBA, without knowing who song them. But the clarity of voice in their songs, is due to them pronouncing English like it were Swedish or Norwegian. ABBA might not appear politically correct outside Scandinavia. but from a Scandinavian perspective, they were extremely politically correct.

They were great! But a reunion today would be very disappointing. Their voices are Not as strong.... and they could not hit the high notes and harmonize like they use to do. But that's the way it is. Play the recordings and thank God we have those. And please don't get me started on the Mama Mia movies!! Meryl....Pierce....Andy Garcia......SINGING??? 😂😃😅😀😂

@@matreen427 .... What a group can do in the studio with technology and what they do live are very often very different. Listen to what Paul McCartney sounds like live today. Very disappointing....and I love the guy! Just being honest. Most Singers in their 20's & 30's singing live sound much better than now in their 70's singing live. Im not saying this to dis ABBA. I love their music. Just an unfortunate fact. Have you heard Robert Plant live in the last 3 years? A far cry from what he sounded like back In the day. ABBA songs are VERY vocally demanding live. Agnetta & Frida sounded amazing live back in the day!!! But as a fan.... I'd be curious to hear them live present day anyway! 💗
they were so lame....but at the same time....kinda great? i dont know...the basslines were very funky, the choruses were extremely catchy, and everything had an either melancholy or dark tone to it (even tho' it was supposed to sound like "happy-go-lucky tunes" on the surface)
I don't like this documentary. It is very US centric (ignoring, for instance, non-angoamerican influences on ABBA's music, focussing on Phil Spector without mentioning Michael Tretow ...) , and the story is mostly told by the worst types of people in the music business: journalists (from US journals like Rolling Stones who all had hounded and ridiculed ABBA in the 70s) and record label owners.
