I tend to collect a lot of digital art and I don't believe I've ever seen this painting ever. Thanks for all the facts, but this is coming from a guy from New England.
That's still an interesting data point, thanks! I'm curious if there are a bunch of these in Minnesota or other places that have seen significant immigration from Scandinavia. I can't recall seeing it in American homes, but maybe it has snuck in some places.
I am swedish and I always thought he was british, especially with the dark skies above him. This along with fisherman's friend and those licorice pipes kind of gave me a romanticised headcannon of what a "fisherman" was supposed to be like
That makes good sense, and I think I may have thought along the same lines growing up - but then that logic blended with another “storyline” in my head where I knew that some of the paintings and drawings in my family were done by some “old uncle” my dad would mention, so I kind of thought this was one of those - until I saw it in friends’ houses too, at which point I can’t remember exactly what I thought. 😄
Never heard of that, but just looked it up and started laughing immediately upon seeing those two dudes who appear to be "fiskargubben" cosplaying 🤣 Do you recommend this movie?
Wow, born on a ship, that's cool! It seems to me that Rijkers is still very much a hero, whether or not this painting is actually meant to be him. My vote is: don't tell your mom. 😀 Thanks for watching and commenting!
This is the internet... so I kinda expected the conclusion, that Hitler fled Berlin in '45 and went to be that fisherman in Norway until he died in 1989.
I had one in my summer house in Sweden. It’s so insanely common in Sweden, especially amongst old people. Thanks for telling the story 🙏🏼!!
I feel like it's maybe especially common in Scandinavian summer houses! Thanks for watching and commenting!

I'm Swedish and I've seen it in older Swedish movies like Åke från åstol

Interesting story. There is also the painting of the 'crying gypsy child' that was everywhere for a while.
Thanks - that one is on my list of potential videos!
I might have seen that painting around Faroe Islands too.
I can believe it - thanks for chiming in!
@@edlundart Actually, I just realized there's one in my house. 😅
Edit: It's sewn.
@ Ahahah, that's amazing! I think the sewn ones are kinda cool.
I was born on a ship, so we had a "Doris Rijkers" portrait.
That guy was a hero to us!
(How do I tell my mother it wasn't him?)

🤣 Sorry to disappoint! Or actually, I guess I'm kind of proud to disappoint?
