    IMO my tears ricochet, mad woman and hoax are all about her relationship w Scott borchetta (mad woman includes Kimye and scooter tho obviously).
    I think mirrorball is a love letter to her fans. It’s in the lyrics. “I’ll show you every version of yourself tonight” that’s her talking about us listening to her music and us seeing ourselves through it. And she is doing everything she can to hold our attention.
    I think seven is about her life as a child in PA. Invisible string is about her relationship w joe, along with peace.
    Epiphany is about her grandfather going to war, but I think half of the song is about the world we live in today and the things we are dealing with.
    Betty, August and cardigan are from the perspectives of the teenage love triangle at different points in their lives.
    This is me trying i feel could be about James trying to apologize, or about Taylor saying she didn’t think we would care about her after the infamous phone call. And all of the shit she went through w people calling her a snake and a liar.
    The 1, illicit affairs and exile I think are just made up stories.
    That’s my analysis.

    Cardigan, August and Betty are 3 songs that tell the story of a teenage love triangle of characters she made up. James, Betty and another girl. each song is told from the prospective of each character. Cardigan is from the prospective of Betty. August is from the prospective of the girl James cheated on Betty with and the song Betty is from James's prospective. and in those 3 songs there are parallels to each other in the lyrics and meaning. like in Cardigan Betty says that James is immature/insecure and in the song Betty James mentions it. or like in Cardigan she sings "Chase 2 girls, lose the one" which means to James playing around with Betty and the other girl. just a quick example. so Taylor made up all that and played around with these ideas.

      @ahmaddiab9480 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yep and here's some more: "when u r young they assume u know nothing" and "im only 17 i dont know anything"
      Also. in august, the girl said "remember when i pulled up and said get in the car", and in betty james says "when she pulled up...she said james get in lets drive, those days turned into nights, slept next to her but i dreamt of u all summer long"
      *And. Cardigan **3:13** “and you’d be standing in my front porch light”*
      *Betty **3:13** “Betty, I’m here on your doorstep”*

    I’m pretty sure that in “Seven”, her father’s friend is abusive. Her friend hides in the closet because he’s really afraid of his dad when he gets “mad”. And she says: “you should come live with me”, “then you won’t have to cry”. She’s also saying that the house is hautend because is a chaotic place

    • @tonyatee3832
      @tonyatee3832 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The song is about a female childhood friend ie “braids like a pattern, pack your dolls, etc”. No modern lyricist would use the line..”we can hide in the closet” without it having the overt sexual reference of hiding a same sex attraction. It’s about her first female crush who she wanted to protect from an abusive home life. Stay safe.

    • @jessaii.xoxo143
      @jessaii.xoxo143 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@tonyatee3832 she did not say we can hide in the closet
      she said "or hide in the closet"
      the full lyrics are:
      Your dad is always MAD and that must be why
      And I think you should come live with
      Me and we can be pirates
      Then you won't have to CRY
      Or HIDE in the closet..
      (NOTICE THE CAPITALIZED WORDS)
      You should take into account the relation to other lines.
      this does not refer to sexual preferences, this refers to your defense mechanism as a child when your parents are angry or abusive. A child will hide to avoid being seen and getting hurt. There were some that ran away or hide in their rooms like that

      @@jessaii.xoxo143 yeah i'm not sure why people interpret this to be about a crush. the closet line is the only thing that is even remotely related to sexuality and even if it was a reference to the friend being gay, what does that have to do with taylor? there is nothing that indicates anything but platonic love for this friend

      Anyone else connect this to “Mary’s Song (Oh My, My, My)” from her first self titled album? “I was seven and you were nine” “our daddies joked about the two of us growing up and falling in love” “take me back to the house in the backyard tree”

    in Cardigan,there's a nod to her previous albums
    Vintage Tee- Taylor Swift
    - - Taylor has a vintage tee merch in her debut era and also sold a vintage tee with her drawing.
    Brand new phone- Fearless
    -- the era where smartphones were starting to be a thing
    Sequins Smile- Speak Now
    Speak Now uuhmm can be coz the SN era dresses are made of sequins which were her fave and also refers to having the happiness she has during this era referring to her smile as sequins because it reflects to her fans
    Black Lipstick - Reputation
    --- she went literal on this one because it's the dark/aggressive era of her career (one of the best! ❤️)
    Sensual/High heels on Cobblestones - Red
    -- She refers to Red as sensual and passionate and at the same time anger and jealousy. In this Era she was also told by an ex to not wear high heels coz she's but she love high heels
    Politics - Lover
    --- how she talked about politics using high school references in Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince and of course, the LGBTQ issue of You need to Calm Down . And also the era where she spoke about polotics openly.

    I'm so happy that you decided to cover this album so soon! I knew after listening to it the first time that you would have an absolute field day with the lyrical content. I've read that Taylor crafted these songs based on fictional characters in her mind, but I wonder how much crossover there is on what the album has to say with her own current state of being. The overall arc of the album reminded me quite a bit of "Ray of Light" by Madonna, where the beginning is filled with painful life awakenings and acceptance, but closes out with a darkened, continued search for closure. The album's lyrics also reminded me a lot of the fierce honesty expressed on "Jagged Little Pill" by Alanis Morissette - which would be another great album for you to do a video for in the future :) No matter what, though, I thought this was an absolutely superb piece of work from Taylor and is now my personal favorite album out of her entire catalogue. Excellent job as always analyzing it, Eric!

    Future nostalgia was my favorite album of the year before Folklore came out. I can't decide if I like reputation or folklore better, both are just so good. Folklore kinda reminds me of Madonna's Ray of Light album. Especially vocally, because Taylor presented her best vocals yet imo. My favorite is "The 1" but I also really love Cardigan, mad woman, betty, epiphany, and peace. Album of the year for sure.

    Was waiting for this :) I now understand the parts I missed on some songs. One thing I noticed on the album is she used a new theme on a couple of songs that allude to suicide. On this is me trying, she said she could've followed her fears down from a lookout; and on hoax, she stood on a cliffside asking her partner to give her a reason not to jump, in which you said she wants a reason not to end the relationship.
    Thanks for the video! You're one of my favorite reactors. :)

    • @ericmason6540
      @ericmason6540  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      When Taylor says that, she's talking about lost love, so the line is sort of a sarcastic joke that, just like this person left her, a lot of fathers tend to abandon their families. This probably is reflective of her feelings about parents' divorce or the experiences of people she knows personally. In any case, it adds to Taylor's feeling of longing and absence. :)
