@@boycehundley2618 Pretty weak for a supposed Gibson fan. They had two types in the early days of electric guitars: EH stood for Electric Hawaiian (lap steel guitars, extremely popular at the time), ES stood for Electric Spanish (regular guitar playing was called Spanish playing). The numbers after that designation stood for the price in dollars (until they didn't anymore because of inflation-yadda-yadda). Brian May and Tony Iommi have been friends for about a million years. Brian has his own guitar company and the "Red Special" has no historical connection with Gibson whatsoever. A Gibson-made Red Special replica would be about as legit as their attempt to rip off Fender with their laughably butt-ugly "Jimi Hendrix model" years ago. Hendrix had a stronger connection/association to Gibson than Dr. Brian has ever had, because he played Flying Vs, SGs, and even an early Les Paul Custom with single coils, when he felt like it. Do I get to try it out on Douchepotatoe Agnesi's head if I buy an extra-heavy Les Paul Custom as a melee weapon? For "authenticity" and all that...
I can't believe Justin was even there trying to keep his career alive pretending he was ever a beloved UK "rock star". Obviously, I use that term as loosely as possible with him! I stopped listening to his rambles when he slated Noel Gallagher, John Mayer and John Frusciante as players and song writers.
Although Brian May plays the Red Special 99% of the time, he has played various Gibsons over the years, albeit fleetingly. Most notably, he used a flying V in the video for Princes of the Universe and a Gibson Chet Atkins CE for the acoustic section of the Magic Tour in '86 (the final proper Queen tour).
Hello. That Flying V in Princes is actually a Washburn. He had a LP Deluxe as a backup in the 70’s, and there are photos of him playing a Black Beauty 74-ish.
Yes, sorry, went off piste with that. The Flying V was on the Hot Space tour and it was a Washburn RR-V in the Princes vid, you are absolutely correct.
Gibson is great but there are far more dead ones than good. Out of 5 custom shop models i tried one sounded amazing. I suppose it is hard to queen QC consistent at that size but many other brands such as collings have perhaps the best QC ive ever seen, each one i pick up feels and sounds amazing.
Brian May and Tony Iommi are very good friends. I'm going to assume Brian was there with him. I can't imagine Brian working with Gibson to make a Red Special as Brian already has his own company to produce them. Can't see why he'd suddenly go to Gibson and probably make less money on the deal. Not to mention Brian is VERY particular about how his guitars are made.
i was in the nashville shop a few months ago. got to meet Mark, had a great convo with a cool dude in the acoustic section. I hear Carter Vintage is in a new location, i need to hit it up
Brian has got a whole company that reissues the red special (and tbe Arielle which is a red special on a Firebird-esque body). As a owner of an Arielle the workmanship is fantastic on the guitar. I'd say he was just there as a famous guitarist.
You should check out a Johnny Marr Jaguar, he made a bunch of mods to one he got from Issac Brock of Modest Mouse (Issac didn’t really like it), and Fender actually asked to see what he did and then offered to make it a signature model!
Can’t wait to see the review of NG Les Paul (great teaser) Really surprised there’s no videos documenting them yet but we shall wait patiently for yours!
It really is! I love how he and his father worked on it for like literally a couple of years or more just so everything could be just right! There's even a book out about it too
Notice the Gibson branded guitar stands that those new guitars are using. Gibson, the notoriously litigious corporate giant, seems to have infringed on Zither? Gibson used to have Zither make their stands, now Gibson is making those stands in house.
Cezar and spinal tap took a extensive tour of the London garage, plenty of nooks and crannies, secret rooms and a celebrity bar, check it out trogly, surprised you haven't seen it yet.
Tony Iommi and Brian May are fast friends and even did some guitar vids/interviews together fairly recently, not sure if a Gibson Red Special is coming, but this isn't too special
I saw Brian playing a customized J-200. It had stars and planets on the pick guard. Not sure if a release is happening, or maybe it was a gift? I couldn’t find much info other than a few photos floating around the net.
Hi T love the chanel. Was in the Gibson Garage London today and can tell you it’s awesome. They’ve revamped their old artist/special events space. The NG’s were just under £10k and sold out in minutes. First in line was queuing from 4pm the day before opening. There are 2 conveyer belts with about 75 guitars on each and you’re right the belt in Nashville carries around 200!
A lot of people pointing out that Brian May and Tony Iommi are the best of friends and maybe that is why he is present. Maybe it's just that but Brian is a Gibson player as well. His Red Special is not the only guitar he plays. He has used Gibson LP, V and SGs.
Did anyone else notice the crooked tuner at 2:33? Is it supposed to be that way? Did his guitar have a crooked tuner? I wouldn't want my $12500 dollar guitar to have something like that wrong with it.
Looking at the current exchange rate it would be about 12,678USD before tax. It's nice that it's going to charity and it's a beautiful guitar but the price is crazy.
