      I always forget to do this every time as well. Spent far too long messing with a NAND based memory cell till I realised not grounding the inputs when input switches were open (hence left floating inputs) was making the thing go nuts.

      luketorpedo yeah. Leave no pin floating unless the data sheet explicitly says leave disconnected. In which case, pad on the PCB. Nothing further.
      It's a good lesson that all EEs. Hobbyist or Professional, eventually go through. The world is full if EM noise.

      kHz? Is that limited by the breadboard? Because 74HCxx can run up to 16-20 MHz.

      GRBTutorials the breadboard does significantly reduce speed.
      Also, the 74HC series can run at 20mhz on their own, sure, but once you string dozens or hundreds of them together, your critical path is no longer 50ns...

      I'll pay 5$ for a bluetooth jammer video . . . although, bluetooth is mainly on 2.4 Ghz, if you found out how to keep the frequency at 2.4 ghz, you have your bluetooth jammer right then and there. . . . (just don't get in trouble with the law)

      Either isolate the 2.5Ghz harmonic or make it run faster (blow that potato) and maybe amplify it :D add an antenna and done. dont forget to bake some potatos on the hot chips :P

    Back in 1986, I used to call Radio Shack and say "Hi, I wanted to know if you have an RCA CA-3080 transconductance operational amplifier potato chip?". They'd ask me to repeat it a couple of times, unsure if I actually said "potato".
    I was a legend in my own mind.

    1:40 The construction of the circuit is actually quit good if the decoupling cap is located where it should be (but that's something you'll know about). A dead bug style circuit can have very low stray capacitance. The property you want for this type of circuit.

    I made some sort of FM transmitter using the cd 4011 in the same configuration , never understood very well how it works , but i guess the FM modulation was done by the same oscillation instability by self , 20 years ago nice memories BTW and video ...

    +Afrotechmods hey mate thanks for this vid, would one of these ICs be a good option for high speed voltage level shifting? I think some of their gates can run at 5V so that output high can be 5V, and use 3,3v input high

    I just tried the same thing with a 74hc chip. It works just the same as you would expect. But it also works with only one inveter which has its output connected to its input, what results in a way higher frequency than with three inverters in a row. Have you tried this out too?

    Spread-spectrum jamming is easily achieved with FM using a tunnel diode, varactor diode, and class-c amplifier. Totally analog!

    How badass would it be to have a quad of 4 bit 74181 4 bit alus and 182 carry lookahead generators? With those two and the other chips already offered by potato, one could (assuming one can find some very fast proms) literally build their own 1ghz Vax 11/780 clone right down to the chips. I ask again: how badass would that be?

    Hello, I have a simple regulated box mod power bank or power supply for vaping tanks. It has a voltage cut-off chip that turns the device off after only using .8 volts of the battery power. I want to put another chip that gives it more time before turning itself off. It is the tesla invader three. How do I distinguish the cut off chip and can I replace it without pissing off the " internal blink when something isn't right" chip?

    Far as I can tell here, I believe those harmonics you are seeing would be down to the actual signal being generated being a square wave. This is pretty clear by every second multiple of the fundamental frequency having a higher spike in amplitude which summed make a square wave. I'm not sure why there are smaller spikes between, but they won't have much effect given a small reduction in dB is a huge reduction in signal in real terms. I would guess the low bandwidth of the oscilloscope in comparison to the 2nd harmonic is probably why the scope is outputting a sine rather than the square wave the signal analysis suggests is present.

      I think youd need to isolate the frequency, amplify it a bit and make a transmitter. I think either or a combination of a RF Filter, Low and/or High pass filters. never tried, but I know its posible and if you try it localy, with a tiny amplifier so within 10 menters youd jam, it probably is allowed as "research".
      Note that bluetooth is on 2.5Ghz as Wifi is aswell (later wifi is also on the 5Ghz. ) jam those and your sure some device cant talk good anymore. I might be wrong tho, im not a licensed radio amateur, just an electronics enthousiast

Once it effects public areas is when the FCC will fine you if you are reported and they can prove its bleeding off your property. Plus I already know what he's talking about.     Undefined potential on the unused pins and no heat dissipation. That should be the main source of the instability!

    I would love to see your newest video because it would probably answer so many questions about caps in switching DC-DC PSUs but its unavailable in my country, i would pay to see it, in fact, i turn off adblock when i watch your videos because I've learned so much from them, this just sucks...
