- James O'Brien reflected on the"breathtaking" but "predictable" scenes in America, as four people died after pro-Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol.
Four people have died including a woman who was shot after pro-Trump protesters stormed the US Capitol building while Congress debated the Electoral College vote that gave Joe Biden the presidency.
The crowds breached barricades amid violent clashes between the President's supporters and Washington DC police.There was confusion in the House chamber as the Capitol doors were locked and debate was suspended.
President-elect Joe Biden said that democracy is "under an unprecedented assault" and demanded that President Trump make a televised address calling on his supporters to cease the violence.
In response to the protests, President Trump posted a video on his Twitter in which he said "this was a fraudulent election" as he told rioters to "go home" from Capitol Hill.
In an impassioned monologue, James reacted to the terrifying and "absolutely breathtaking" scenes in America which were "grimly predicted."
He branded the actions of pro-Trump supporters "the moment where those who had been encouraged to flirt with fascism the moment Donald Trump was elected sought to consummate that relationship."
James pinpointed the very moment that politicians and the media should have "locked President Trump up and thrown away the key", which James says has led to this shocking moment of violence and anti-democracy.

@@thompintello I live in the U.S. and this Ben guy must listen only to Fox News. Nothing has been debunked! Lol Those "riots" were peaceful protests by black people and others who supported them. They were protesting the police violence against black people. Certain people think that if you're black and you rightfully protest a wrong, you're a rioter. Of course, these same people think that if you're white, even things like January 6th are peaceful demonstrations. As for January 6th at the Capitol, the FBI has charged 600 people. So far they are all Trump followers, who have said that they were doing what Trump told them to do. Tourists do go to the Capitol, but not whenever they want. The police that let them into the Capitol are up on charges, too. These people could have killed the Vice President and members of Congress. Yelling "hang Mike Pence" isn't a peaceful protest. It's a death threat! How yelling "say their names" in an effort to get people to recognize black people as real people whose lives have value, is violent, but death threats aren't is beyond me!

Incorrect. He was calling for their death while they were on trial. Yes that is a huge difference. What you mean is that even though they were exonerated, he still said that they were guilty. Someone confessed to being the real killer and he still said they were guilty.

I’ll be 21 this year and it actually frights me that this is what the children of the future will grow up with racism and guns given out to anyone. The USA is supposed to be about people coming together despite the color of their skin or their religious beliefs or even who they love for that matter.

They changed the right to run 2011. Before you had to be born in the US. McCain was born on a military base I think.

There have always been 2 ways to be determined to be a “natural” born citizen: either through birth on US soil OR at least one parent being a natural born citizen of the US. We derive our citizenship through our parents or through a process of naturalization. This is how Mitt Romney’s father could run for president even though he was born in Mexico (his parents were US citizens making him a US citizen) and how Ted Cruz could run for president even though he was born in Canada (his mom was born in the US and a citizen). Of course McCain was born in a US territory, but that didn’t matter because his parents were both US citizens. No matter where Obama had been born, he was always eligible to be president because his mom was a US citizen from birth. Therefore, Obama was always considered a US citizen from when he was born. Not enough people spoke up for Obama due to many factors, but they could have done so forcibly from beginning.
That’s the point, it was all made up.

What makes this worse is that there exists no punishment for the people who enabled this attack. The former president doesn't face any consequences for spreading a lie that led to it, the politicians who refused to denounce his lies face no repercussions, the officials who sought to reject the results of the election are met with no comeuppance, and the people in high places who purposefully dragged their feet to prevent this potentially happening again by impeaching or subjecting the former president to criminal charges would not be seen to face judgement. That's what makes this so much scarier; the voters can only be blamed so far, but this coup was allowed to happen by some truly reprehensible people from the inside who sought power at the expense of democracy in America. And I think January 6th was the day America died, when it became clear a violent insurrection spurred on by a wannabe tyrant could happen, and a significant number of government officials saw no wrong in it.

I watched it live. It was not surprising that it happened, but still shocking to see.
President Macron said, "This is not America!" after witnessing the insurrection at the Capitol building. I say as an American, "Yes, Mr. President, this IS indeed America and has been for a very long time". It's sad, but it's the truth. Mr. O'Brien, you sir, are right on the mark in your viewpoint and I am sure that there won't be many to go against your argument.

I was open-mouthed astonished, then furious at Donald's Dogpack Putsch of Jan.6 - my birthday, no less!
I was working in my hospital's urgent care at the time. Everyone was watching, on TV, phones, laptops. Everyone watched in horror. I waited til I got home to cry.
