How LaKeith Stanfield Broke Into Hollywood [FULL INTERVIEW]

  • Actor LaKeith Stanfield shares his beginning desire to be an actor, making a long (2 hour plus) train ride from Victorville, CA to Los Angeles, CA for numerous auditions in the early days of his career. He touches on how he began Googling how to act and where to find acting work as a way to learn more about the profession. LaKeith also talks about the bias of other actors who may have received classical training versus an intuitive, practiced acting style.

    Stuff we use:
    CAMERA - This is the camera we have used to film 90+% of our interviews (over 200 interviews and counting) It continues to be our workhorse - amzn.to/2u66V1J
    LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
    AUDIO
    Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
    Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
    LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
    COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z
    EDITING - We upgraded our editing suite this year and we’re glad we did! This has improved our workflow and the quality of our work. Having new software also helps when we have a problem, it’s easy to search and find a solution - goo.gl/56LnpM

      Getting trained to act is a good thing, but people also have to know the marketing side, business, how to find work, etc. A drama degree is not a guarantee. But acting classes can open many doors.

    • @mannyantonio4950
      @mannyantonio4950 7 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      Film Courage I was watching his BC interview when it first released because his character Darius in Atlanta drew me in. In a way I am very similar to Darius and LaKeith at the same time because he played the character effortlessly. At least I saw it that way. I said "wow this guy's a really good actor". When I heard his story on how he became who he is today I said "hell I took drama at a magnet school" maybe I should get back in. I knew right away that I wanted to be behind the camera instead of in front of it. I havent acted in at least 15-16 years. I'd feel more in my zone behind the scenes. My creativity has lead to a project called "30 Years", it'll be a doc/mov about the last 30 years of this countries chaos while I bike from NY to LA. Where I hope to meet other filmmakers to help me complete this project.

    If u want to go into acting,be sure that acting is what u want to do,ppl look at the glitz and the glamour and think it's a bed of roses. Know from now that u will face alot of rejections..I will also suggest to go into other avenues of filmmaking whether it's writing ,editing,direct or fashion

      ruddiato This is my path, yes I want to act but I also want to write, produce, direct.. anything that has to do film or even musical art. If acting doesn't work out for me than I'll be taking my path with being the person that works behind the scenes with cameras, lighting, sound etc I want to be involved in some way within the art industry.
