"Come on tell me, does he warm the room when he comes, or does he just know how to leave when it gets cold"?--JC Definitely my all time favorite Casablancas lyric.
Most people don't realize that, but Julian is an excellent lyricist. His persona is just so enormous, even with his shyness Julian is just such a dazzling human being, that his modesty regarding his lyrics (and making him avoid any emotional interpretation of them while singing) gets the best of most of us.
Seriously though, so many bands have been inspired by these guys, The Foals, Arctic Monkeys, Kings Of Leon all wouldn’t have existed if it wasn’t for these guys, they reminded so many people what rock used to be and inspired so many to pick their guitars back up and rock it out
When I first discovered The Strokes right before high school, my whole perspective on life changed. They made me feel something I had never felt before. It's because of them that I started playing and writing music in my own band. You guys should come check it out. You won't regret it.
TheAudiots my story is pretty similar I found out about them in the summer before high school and they were different than anything I had listened to Pryor. I listened to a bunch of rap and hip hop and now I listen to you guys, strfkrs, and the strokes
TheAudiots me toooooo, my brother showed me them when I was in 3rd or 4th grade, now I’m in 12th grade and they are still my favorite band, they changed my whole life honestly, well my brother had a big part to do also, he just provided the strokes, the strokes took it from there, I started to love rock, middle school In 7th grade I started to play guitar, my brother had a guitar and I would just pick it up and mess around, then as time went by, I started to really enjoy playing the guitar, until 10th grade was when I started to write my own stuff, I experienced love heartbreaks so that influenced me to write lol, then I had liked a girl and a few others, they all hurt me but oh well lol then I write a song about them and I’m still playing guitar to this day and I know im going to be playing guitar until the day I die, amazing how one person which is my brother, and 5 guys who are the strokes could change someone’s life.
it mkes me so sad to watch old performances, you can tell he seemed realy into it and in love with what he was doing and if you look at 2011 2010 etc he just looks like BLAH i'll sing fine
Won't decide, but he won't debate Said, "thanks my friend, " but he was too late Oh why, oh why I don't know So you think things move pretty fast down here Well just wait my dear 'till we get up there Oh maybe someday you'll know Had his second kid, was an early night Got to be well dressed 'cause he hates to fly Oh loves his job, takes it home Anything they wanted They could have it, have it Didn't even notice I don't mind it, mind it Won't decide, but he won't debate Said, "thanks my friend, thought that we was dead" Oh why, oh why I don't know Think things move pretty fast down here But just wait my dear 'till you look up there Oh maybe someday they'll know Come on tell me does she warm the room When he comes Or does he just know how to leave When it gets cold Well I don't care, I don't care Cause it's free
I was only two years old when they played on stage. I wish I could of crawled or learnt to walk out of my house to get there. Seemed like a fun time, but was it?
+Juliana Leal Pereira if you're not American that could explain it. they replaced NYC Cops with this on the American version last minute because 9/11 happened
My first Strokes show was the day after they filmed this. Julian completely lost his voice due to this show, so he couldn't sing at the show that I was at. =( Myeh, it was okay tho coz I still got to see Jules in all of his drunken glory. He was still beautiful and my heart still fell to my stomach the second I saw him for the first time.
@BigHashTouraj Their oldest member is 33 if I remember right, I think it's Albert. This was filmed in '02 so they were all between the ages of 21-24. Such talent at such a young age x_x
favorite strokes song. just is. i swear from the moment i heard it. i wz like f yea. the lyrics... his voice. nick's solo the whole band in general it's jst doing it for me...
probably you're talking about New York City Cops, which was in the original Is This It tracklist but was replaced by When It Started in the American version. that's why itunes tags it as When It Started
What I would give to have been there.
I love how at 1:06 Nikolai and Nick have a moment, they're like fuck yeah we sound good.
Hahahahahahaha true!
"Come on tell me, does he warm the room when he comes, or does he just know how to leave when it gets cold"?--JC

In 2002 in Brazil was awarded a CD with the soundtrack of the movie Spiderman 1, came this song like The strokes!
words cannot describe my feelings for this band
When I first discovered The Strokes right before high school, my whole perspective on life changed. They made me feel something I had never felt before. It's because of them that I started playing and writing music in my own band. You guys should come check it out. You won't regret it.
TheAudiots
my story is pretty similar
I found out about them in the summer before high school and they were different than anything I had listened to Pryor.
I listened to a bunch of rap and hip hop and now I listen to you guys, strfkrs, and the strokes
No se van ha arrepentir esa banda es genial suenan genial , son unos genios.
TheAudiots I have a very similar story! I found out about them a year before High School, and they inspired me to start playing the drums!

HILARIOUS...
Today 02/02/2020
Waited 18 years to post this
ebrtico did you really
it looks like it was filmed in the 90s
The nineties? You must be an early or late millennium kid. It clearly looks like the late 70s or 80s. Lol. :)
corey jay yes it seems more 70's/80's. anyway, it wasn't much far from 90's
This is by far their most underrated,...
First time ever hearing this song..
Class.
it mkes me so sad to watch old performances, you can tell he seemed realy into it and in love with what he was doing and if you look at 2011 2010 etc he just looks like BLAH i'll sing fine
Don't know what you're talking about, Julian still looks not enthused as fuck.
he is stoned as fuck and he is still stoned as fuck. Julian casablancas, is just the essence of being stoned.
***** well said
***** Stoned & Drunk!
John Smith pure neckbeard.
This is my favorite version cuz I love how the instruments overpower his voice
Won't decide, but he won't debate
Said, "thanks my friend, " but he was too late
Oh why, oh why
I don't know
So you think things move pretty fast down here
Well just wait my dear 'till we get up there
Oh maybe someday you'll know
Had his second kid, was an early night
Got to be well dressed 'cause he hates to fly
Oh loves his job, takes it home
Anything they wanted
They could have it, have it
Didn't even notice
I don't mind it, mind it
Won't decide, but he won't debate
Said, "thanks my friend, thought that we was dead"
Oh why, oh why
I don't know
Think things move pretty fast down here
But just wait my dear 'till you look up there
Oh maybe someday they'll know
Come on tell me does she warm the room
When he comes
Or does he just know how to leave
When it gets cold
Well I don't care, I don't care
Cause it's free
Marcelo Duarte I love humbug

Eric Scott The best time.
I didn't know this song ! and i'm a big fan since 2005!!! wow!
It's on their first album
MisterJanDaMan on the american version only.
JLokeHume Oh I see
+Juliana Leal Pereira if you're not American that could explain it. they replaced NYC Cops with this on the American version last minute because 9/11 happened
Julian has the power to turn straight men into gay men
Like Alex turner?
they have their particular sound, are unique!
I want them together again, they are amaizing!
I love the way their legs look so thin and insectlike when the light shines behind them. It's very interesting.
Come on tell me does she warm the room
When he comes
Or does he just know how to leave
When it gets cold
the singer always sounds like theres an effect over his voice, makes it sounds radio-ish
"I don't care. I don't care cause its free" :)
Im just worried i wont find better music then the strokes..cuz right now im hopelessly addicted. Happy Birthday Is This It!!
I was at this show. Anyone else? Damn I'd love to reminisce about this show....best performance I've seen ever. And all for only $2. :)
the happiest moment of my life was when i saw the strokes in the recording studio in 2010
man, i really miss the 90's and early 2000's..
I love how this video looks ancient even though its 2002. too good
Ah, 2002... listened to this and the other songs on that album on a loop every day!!!
My first Strokes show was the day after they filmed this. Julian completely lost his voice due to this show, so he couldn't sing at the show that I was at. =( Myeh, it was okay tho coz I still got to see Jules in all of his drunken glory. The way Nick moves his head while playing, I also do that while listening
been over 8 years still a good song today.. 10/10/10
I Cant believe how old looks this Video Now...But it is so good!!!
that is one wicked bassline. as well as the stage, it's pretty awesome too
I love both bands.
I'd die for The Strokes!!!
I just came here because of spider man (2002)
This is by far their most underrated song,...
I love the how old this video looks. it matches the music and the band perfectly
why is it that this particular gig has ALL their best songsand it's all good quality and it looks really good setting, is the gig famous???
the strokes early days were pure so much better than first impressions and room on fire
If that bassline were and animal, it'd be a bird - because its so flyyyy
This venue performance will go down in history
I remember hearing this song as a child
Yeah, October 2006 - back when The Strokes were still a little-known act with only a handful of fans. God, those were the days...
they are the masters, we need more from theire
love this tune its on my mind all the time!
Thank You
Everything is so perfect in these live performances. Sounds Just like the recording. Julian's voice is perfect.
Nikolai's hair is really classic. Love it. Not everyone can pull it off these days.
This band is amazing, and ''Is This It'' is almost perfect. I love the whole album, every song
Great quality!
the video thought it should have the quality of a video in 1975 given the audio's greatness.
the bass in this song awesome
ive yet to see a band with as much swagger and uniqueness as the strokes
i heard three or so days ago that ... Julian released a statement over the radio that the strokes have been in the studio for 3 weeks...
