These trailers for both Gothic Switch ports (1 and 2) have NOT been captured on PC with DX11. These trailers have been captured directly on Nintendo Switch on a pre-release version that had additional graphic features included. In the case of Gothic Classic Switch, we were not able to optimize these in time, so we decided to leave them out of the vanilla release version. Our plan is to ship these features with an upcoming patch for G1 Switch as soon as possible. For G2, we will do the best we can to include it in the vanilla release.
You don't even optimize the vanilla release version. The frame rate too often falls below 60 and this is a joke that something like that happens to the above 20 years old game with THAT GRAPHIC.
Bugs aside, I've had a really good time being able to play this game on the go and with a controller. From my understanding, porting older games like this with their original code intact to modern consoles can lead to hiccups, so I'm super grateful that you guys are continuing to work on this release to make it the best it can be despite the obstacles. I'm really looking forward to playing through the second one.

You start all the way at the bottom of the food chain, both in terms of combat prowess and social standing, and slowly but surely make your way up. Nothing quite like coming back to a tough area later in the game and absolutely wrecking the enemies who made you run away in fear before, or beating the shit out of some random guard who robbed you tens of hours earlier.

Long story, active and creative modding community (mods, total conversions, additions) Very good character progression, in the beginning you are the biggest rag and later the big hero. Also, it comes from the Ruhr area in Germany and has the typical Ruhr language, which is fantastic. And best thing ... gothic 2 TNDR is even better!

@@Rumcajss23graphics looks crappy, because it's old, BUT as long as you get used to it (takes a couple of hours), you will change your mind about what a true RPG is. Quests, atmosphere, music, dialogues, immersion, cohesive realism in relationships, attention to details and challenging hardcore are greater and more interesting than in Skyrim and Witcher series. For example, you don't have the map from the beginning. You can buy it if you find where to buy. Even then you won't get any quest marks that would disappear when completed. You should be a good listener and get your orientation in the area. Gothic feels like a tough and believable world and you actually want to live in there and become someone. It's not for boys, but for men.

They advertised graphical upgrades, and even used a DX11 shader in their trailer. None of that sh** is present in the release however. Hard pass for me
@@Notion3D It's truly shame they removed the DX11 option so late in development because the devs faced some performance problems. Also the aspect ratio is wrong but patches are promised and the game is great even without DX11 renderer.
Gothic is so awesome. The gameplay, characters, character progression, music and overall aesthetic - everything is great. Map may seem small by modern standards, but it's quality over quantity - packed with content. Legendary cRPG.

Wow, I don't even own Switch but am thinking about getting physical copy. Please release the whole Piranha Bytes Gothic trilogy on all platforms physically. It may not seem like it but there is a bunch of eastern European people like myself that love that franchise to death, I replay Gothic 2 every year since I bought my first copy of the game in 2010. Gothic 1 & 3 are also incredible games, the third one although it had so many issues because it was unfortunately rushed to be released there is something so special in that game.

I hope it has Polish dubbing - it's one of the most important factors that made Gothic popular in Poland and people will be more likely to buy it again if it has it on Switch! EDIT: I just checked one of the fixes which is BREAKING part the game: "Stone will now be hostile in Chapter 5" - it will break the possibility of upgrading your magic armor (or getting other rewards)!!! Change it ASAP!

1:11 THQ Nordic please send the feedback to the developer that this "motion blur" is no longer acceptable in 2023, it dates the game so much. Look what Nightdave Studios did to Shadow Man Remastered a game from 1999 - please add per pixel/per object motion blur with a slider to control the shutter angle. Again, as with Shadow Man Remastered, the addition of ambient occlusion would modernise the game without destroying the integrity of the original art direction. Currently, the models look floating and too separate from the scene.
Can't wait for the Gothic Remake, will definitely get the Switch version of the og game at some point, looking forward to the showcase next week too, please don't disappoint us.

The Gothic series means so much to me!! I love all 3 parts and no other game could give me the same feeling Gothic did. I play through them every couple years
I had somehow missed this, but am very intrigued considering that I’ve been playing Gothic since it originally released stateside. I could definitely see it working well with gamepad controls.
If they can fix the control scheme, it's a Day 1 purchase for me. The only thing that I didnt like about the original game was how it had no mouse support and the keyboard alone controls were awkward to use.
Basically the first 3D open world RPG and the world is so well designed. It came out before Morrowind and does a better job at it too. Daggerfall technically counts but nobody actually travels in that game because its world is barren.
@@weiserhalunke9168 Zelda Ocarina of Time did have a similarly designed world in some regards but I think almost everyone agrees that Zelda up until BotW is not a true RPG.
@@CrizzyEyes yeah there is also Ultima 8, but this isn't really an open world game as far as i know. If you look at popular fantasy/medieval open world games from our time, like the witcher, ghost of tsushima or assasins creed, gothic is definitely the first of that sort.

A RPG has to have character developement in the form of stats to be counted as one. BotW has RPG elements but it is no true RPG as it had no skill trees to improve.
So the barrier will be visible all the time? As I remember the weather was always a little bit foggy and dirty, and you could see the barrier only when there was a stormy weather.
Great stuff! Would love to see a Sacred Gold Port on the Nintendo Switch as well :) The Gothic and Sacred Series on the go alongside the already released Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning and the Switch would be the ultimate RPG machine for me and finally worth buying.
Sacred made the same mistake as Diablo 2: You can't respec. No one wants to level the same class again just because you missskilled or want to try a new skill tree brench.

I loved the first Dungeon Siege, but I disliked that they introduced skills with Dungeon Siege 2 at this point it was just a typical RPG for me.

1:11 THQ Nordic please send the feedback to the developer that this "motion blur" is no longer acceptable in 2023, it dates the game so much. Look what Nightdave Studios did to Shadow Man Remastered a game from 1999 - please add per pixel/per object motion blur with a slider to control the shutter angle. Again, as with Shadow Man Remastered, the addition of ambient occlusion would modernise the game without destroying the integrity of the original art direction. Currently, the models look floating and too separate from the scene.

THQ Nordic, could you please tell us which studio is responsible for the Switch port? Is it Piranha Bytes themselves or perhaps a porting studio that specialises in Switch ports?

The Gothic series means so much to me!! I love all 3 parts and no other game could give me the same feeling Gothic did. I play through them every couple years
I had somehow missed this, but am very intrigued considering that I’ve been playing Gothic since it originally released stateside. I could definitely see it working well with gamepad controls.
I made it a habit to play Gothic and Gothic 2 every winter for, I guess, 20 years now.
Truly the best RPG ever made!
If they can fix the control scheme, it's a Day 1 purchase for me. The only thing that I didnt like about the original game was how it had no mouse support and the keyboard alone controls were awkward to use.
Basically the first 3D open world RPG and the world is so well designed. It came out before Morrowind and does a better job at it too. Daggerfall technically counts but nobody actually travels in that game because its world is barren.

@@weiserhalunke9168 Zelda Ocarina of Time did have a similarly designed world in some regards but I think almost everyone agrees that Zelda up until BotW is not a true RPG.
@@CrizzyEyes yeah there is also Ultima 8, but this isn't really an open world game as far as i know. If you look at popular fantasy/medieval open world games from our time, like the witcher, ghost of tsushima or assasins creed, gothic is definitely the first of that sort.

@@CrizzyEyesBotW isn't a RPG either. It still is a Action adventure. Just that it is a Open World Action Adventure. Technically Zelda 1 for the NES already was an Open World Action Adventure. A RPG has to have character developement in the form of stats to be counted as one. BotW has RPG elements but it is no true RPG as it had no skill trees to improve.
30 bucks seems a bit overkill but I appreciate the effort to revive the series even before the launch of the Gothic Remake👍🏼😊❤️
So the barrier will be visible all the time? As I remember the weather was always a little bit foggy and dirty, and you could see the barrier only when there was a stormy weather.
Gothic 1 to this day is my favorite RPG of all time (if you disregard the the From Software Games) . What a game!
Great stuff! Would love to see a Sacred Gold Port on the Nintendo Switch as well :) The Gothic and Sacred Series on the go alongside the already released Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning and the Switch would be the ultimate RPG machine for me and finally worth buying.
Sacred made the same mistake as Diablo 2: You can't respec. No one wants to level the same class again just because you missskilled or want to try a new skill tree brench.
@@randyraudi7725 True, but maybe they could implement that feature in the port. Even if they don't i would feel more inclined to play this game in a portable form factor. This would make it easier to restart the game if i misskilled my character build since i can take the game with me and play it chunk by chunk.

I just watched a Gothic retrospective and didn’t know a port is happening. I thought the game is very interesting. Can’t wait to try this one!

for all new generation Switch users out there - Dont let outdated graphics and complex controls discourage you, this is the VERY FIRST GREAT RPG that set most of the standarts for all other 3rd person RPGs in open world for Years, from this very game devs were taking inspiration to make games like Witcher
