    A compressor is a life savor if you're a strat lover who adores vintage true single coils. The wampler ego made me comfortable enough to sell a lot of my drive/boost pedals. I also felt comfortable enough to step down from using 12s and 11s down to just regular 10-46 strings. The Wampler ego and the Cali76 are my two favorites. Which one is better? To me it just depends on the application. I like the Ego best with single coil guitars, but the transparency of the Cali76 works incredible with guitars that have humbuckers and if you're using a significant amount of gain.

    I sold my mini ego compressor after 3 years of owning it. Never hated it nor did I ever really love it. I have always used compression very lightly. I found a Strymon compadre for $220. And that thing fits right into my MIDI controller rig effortlessly. And to be honest it colors my way less than the Wampler ever did. Very happy with the Strymon.

    • @BuddyBlues
      @BuddyBlues  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Strymon make some really reaaallly cool stuff man. We are going on tour in September to Indiana and there is absolutely no scenario in any parallel universe where I'm dragging an amp with me. The amp they provided last time we played that same Blues festival was a peavey viper which wasn't my cup of tea.. so I'm looking into making a small board and buying a strymon iridium

      I have the Compadre and the Wampler Ego V2(not the mini)and to be honest the Wampler sounds fantastic and more musical,sweet and warm than the Strymon which I think the Studio compressor option is good but rather than that I don’t feel it….just my honest thoughts about the two of them…

  • @MrBostechman
    @MrBostechman 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I leave my compressor always on. Just enough to even everything out but not
    squashed to the point that it kills the overdriven tones. That Wampler is a great pedal. Keeley makes some great ones too. And even the old standby - Boss - has highly effective comps. Great video.

    Just bought this-pretty much entirely based on your 'say so.' And i can say-with an unblemished record of staunch heterosexuality- _"it's fabulous."_ Seriously, though... i mean, i have compression in the Kemper, but this just seems a bit better? Different? I don't know. I barely understand compression, i can't identify it without context, but this thing just makes everything sound better. I'm going to consider it an 'always on' pedal for cleans, and i'll have to figure out how to set it for dirty. Basically, i just took a screenshot of your settings and had mine like that before i ever plugged it in.... Works for me.

    • @BuddyBlues
      @BuddyBlues  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's awesome! I think this was my first or second video on here. I still have this pedal, and it still is always on like you said. It just evens everything out so perfectly. I forgot where I read this quote on compressor pedals: The best compressor pedals should be felt not heard. Something like that

  • @dirkstaudt4341
    @dirkstaudt4341 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm not so satisfied with mine... It sounds great and offers a great variety of settings, but at my pedal the on and off switch failed much to early. WD40 or something similar would maybe help, but the switch is completely closed. If Wampler would use a higher quality switch, it would be a great pedal. So I replaced it by my Bogner Harlow. It gives me another level of manufacturing quality.

    @supersonicsroots 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A compressor has it's function, certainly when recording. But if you're hearing these kinds of spikes without compressor then I'd imagine something other is happening with your guitar or playing style. Lots of people play live without a compressor and doing just fine without it. Certainly it's personal. Maybe it's your pickup pole on the high E or the height of your pup?

    • @BuddyBlues
      @BuddyBlues  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it has anything to do with the way I play I GUARANTEE you, you are probably correct haha. I have my pickups higher on the treble side and the pole pieces adjusted etc.. the compressor did help even out the sound a lot for me on a strat though. Then it helped me a whole lot with funky rhythms and such

    • @supersonicsroots
      @supersonicsroots 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BuddyBlues ah okay, that explains a lot though, but if you compensate that with a compressor, wouldn't that sort of nullify each other?

      I have the Cali76 on my other smaller board. Incredible Compressor, the only complaint I have about it is the VERY strong buffer it has that is on and active all the time whether the pedal is on or off. Makes makes distortions and overdrive and especially fuzzes sound a little different but alas. I put it after the fuzz
