Medium Duty Truck is Heavy Work! King Pins, Brakes, Bearings, Seals!

- We don't often do much work in the medium duty truck business anymore but this one came to us from a local customer who's light duty vehicles we have worked on lately, and they were in dire need of help! What initially started as a heavy power steering leak, turned into much much more and a considerably larger repair!
Deferred maintenance is a reality for many people and businesses, and that's understandable, repair bills can be expensive! Unplanned expenses can really impact a person or businesses budget. However, that needs to be paired with a solution and plan, and someone making sure what NEEDS to be done is done before it HAS to be done. In this trucks case, we didn't get our eyes on it until the later part.
As an automotive shop, why do we have a TH-cam channel? For issues exactly like this, to keep complete and total transparency with our customers so they know exactly what we are doing and why, and what challenges we deal with along the way.
Bikers are nice to old people. That's why they were nice to Austin. Lol
I feel that medium duty trucks are the most abused because most users think they are heavier than they are and continiously overload them until they eventually fail. I am sorry you have been subject to gross ignorance and stupidity. Much love to you!
I don't care who you are, that stuff just hearts to work on!
I had a machine shop bore and hone some bushings for a 64 Fore Econoline and he left a little clearence for "grease", essentially wearing them out before their time. This was the last set I could find in the 80's. Nothing like driving your van with the same slop as before you started! It was epic, at least I was used to the feel!
You guys know your shit👍 now if Austin keeps breaking shit on his channel. You will always be busy! Love the channels and love you all for the information and entertainment. Keep up the great awesome work
Thanks Rich. I felt the sweat on that one.
After watching you in this video I need a nap!
WOW... safety is everything... good content and thanks....🔧🔧👍
I feel fortunate that I own air hammers and fire axes, they are wonderful when things will not cooperate!
Admittedly, I haven't done many kingpins before but the couple I did were about as stuck as those are. Heat, hammer, lube, repeat, lol. Love the channel. Wish there were shops like yours near me. Keep up the awesome work!
Yea, haven't done kingpins in years. Do I miss it, HELLNO!
You need to have Austin hold the pin while you swing the whammer....GG!
I am fortunate that the the class 8 trucks that I drive have a strict pm schedule. I inspect all of the stuff daily, I find that some companies should not own any vehicles at all.
Never done a king pin without using a FLAME wrench
Some sort of hydraulic kingpin extractor needs to be invented.
They are available. Hydro units that press them out. I don't do them often enough to justify an $1800-$3300 tool for this specific task. Torch and hammer gets it done.
I put new kingpins in my 69 Chevy van, it took a propane torch and the biggest hammer I had at the time, finally got it apart and back together the results were less than satisfactory
@@richardlucore6813 My career involved designing special tooling using stuff already on hand, like portable hydraulic cylinders. A simple split block to go around the spindle with a bolted on block for the threaded porta-power cylinder ought to work.
@chuckschultz7028 this conversation actually made me think a little. I have a Porta power...... I just need to make a jig that will support it as needed. Next time I'll just press it out with 20 ton.
And my back won't hurt for 2 days after. Lol. Thanks for coming along for the ride. Cheers!
Get o e of Bills Lack of maintenance decals. Lol
What is the best gas to use Rich? Acetalyne or propane
Acetylene burns @ 5730 deg. Map @ 3730. Propane burns @ 3600. Propane/Ox can reach 5100 deg. Oxy/Acetylene with a rose bud warms things up really quick.
Ya don't know stuff until ya don't know stuff?? I like that and will use it. Usually I don't know shit.....
Big clunky and heavy that it is why everything Hurts after 37 years wrenching on Big stuff..
You need a cold snack and a nap!
You need a rosebud on there
This truck needs either maintenance,or taken out of service.
Accident waiting to happen.
Oh buddy, you gonna be sore and wore out tonite.I feel for ya Richard
HOWdy LUCORE
