Yes, I was at this show--working security!!!-- and it was a real profound revelation to me about the spirit and significance of the Grateful Dead. Prior to this show, I was what can best be described as a "fair weather fan"; I liked all the well known hits, but the deeper songs not so much. As I watched Jerry's playing and the emotional energy that poured out of the songs, combined with the positive energy from the fans, I had a sort of epiphany about this band of amazing musicians and their music & lyrics. I had been blessed with their great energy and became a full-fledged "Deadhead". Their music has withstood the test of time and will be eternal.
I love it when Jerry smiles because the music sounds so good, just like I smile when the jam sounds sogood. The jam right in the middle, as it builds, Jerry is absolutely loving it. I love seeing Jerry happy like this. Thank you for sharing
This was my very first Dead Show . The “Weekend” @ Alpine Valley . Great Everlasting Memories of that Incredible Experience . Seems like it was just yesterday .
so... freakin'... beautiful. I got on the bus pretty late, but this song and Blow Away really blew me away... pun intended. I hope some of you can relate.
My Dead years were 1985-1995, and I felt I got on late. It's never too late. w/archive.org and youtube, one can check out 30 years of music. It's the attitude, family, and friendship that matters, not the years :)
+vikingivor I got on in 2010 @ the ripe old age of 17.... And still blown away! I think 50,000 people could congregate around a pair of Phil Lesh's empty sneakers and still have a better party than 99% of the rest of humanity. The future is brighter than ever for the Dead! Shoutout to the Millennial Deadheads for not crashing any gates (yet) and for having a riot in spite of every... single... person at every... single... show saying something to you along the lines of "IT WILL NEVER BE THE SAME!" Yeah, true, and its very sad but.... who ever wanted the Dead to be THE SAME?? wave that flag, wider and higher than ever. And yes. We are all very jealous you all got so much Garcia.
Late to the bus here too, 2001 at a Phil and Friends show at the same Alpine Valley. I may have been old enough to know better, but... Better late than never indeed!!!
I love the entire Built to last album. So underrated, and one of my favorites to listen to in the summer. This Foolish Heart is also my favorite out of all of them, fantastic playing by all, especially Jerry's soloing!
Kristian Hestås Built to Last doesnt get the love it deserves IMO. Its glossed over by many fans but not by me. Theres a gang of really powerful songs on there.
There are great songs on Built to Last! But like other Dead albums, the tunes come to life in concert. I think the album versions of these songs pale in relation to the live versions.
First live fooliah heart, unveiled to the world in all its beautiful splendor. Such a beautiful song

Dan Corleone got paid to watch the dead, cant beat that.
Dan Corleone you come to this dead show on the day my daughter is to be married and you ask for justice
What have I ever done to make you treat me so disrespectfully?
I had a steady job. Hauling items for the mob
I love this story dude. So sick!
This FOOLISH HEART IS GODDAMN GORGEOUS - Jerry's soloing is just pure BEAUTY
First live foolish heart ever played. Unveiled to the world in all it's glory and splendor.
Love the late 80s-90/ Dead
It’s my favorite
The BEST tours E.Coast 88- 91
Phil is beyond amazing here.
I'm. a wharf rat. I was at this show, sober. I remember everything. it was great.
The overall sound quality makes this one of the all time best nights for the boys.
Always a Hunter/Garcia extraordinarily written later but always loved 😍

I love you, bro!

Holy smokes Jerry screws up everyone around 4:50 when he signals the end of the solo then keeps going, haha stay on your toes fellas.
Good catch! Look at Billy's sticks stop in its tracks.
Good morning ❤love jah w erry
JERRY❤
I cannot stop listening to this Foolish Heart version, the emotion Jerry gives off at the 9:50 mark just totally makes the song for me.
This man is a treasure. That’s all I have to say and that’s enough.
👌🌹💀🌹👌
Unfortunately Jerry is a shell of his former self. It's so sad really.
There is a release of this with pristine audio on a Spotify rarities collection. Heaven
Great tune- and good advice- fun video
I could cry watching Jerry wail it out at the end with a smile...
Dude that little Brent riff at like 2:55 is so cool! Electro pipe organ or something !
FortWarren A spoof on the main riff....actually bridges into the middle section
it's sublime
So good then. So good still🕺
Music never stopped
thanks for sharing!

Rhythm devils kickin ass in this version
Dedicated to my turtle, Ray💜 ((patience))
I will always hear "Lean On Me' teases from Bobby around 10:45 mark
3rd verse twice lol. Classic Jerry!
I wish dead and co could play this
Maybe they will one day
totally agree...there's just nothing like this and it's sad that it's over. least we have soundboards tho
Your wish has been granted!
4.55 -6:00 beautiful
Yes
SOULFUL Jerry
can't help but love this song. i would really like to hear a version with brent doing the vocals, but i'm not sure such a thing exists.
*posts link to such a thing*

Brent so good...
Dayum.
Just like a SWISS WATCH
❤️
This is one of the rare times that I wish Phil was a little louder in the mix. Usually he's right up in it.
I was there
Fucking Love
I love this song so much but you can clearly see in this video how out of it Jerry is.
Mule sez--very nice--relaxing if you will (~);}
Also 1141
So quiet a can’t hear it. Too many dead shows I guess
I love the dead but this is a bad foolish heart, sorry to say. They were not "on" at all.
Love it. But I swear the first set of this show was better than the 2nd set. First set is insane.
