    This is NOT a promotional video. I pay for all of my flights and hotels (and I always tell you how much!) so I can be as honest and impartial as possible. I do not receive any special treatment that wouldn’t otherwise be publicly accessible, in fact, the hotels and airlines have no idea about my visit and that's the way I like it!

    For years, Vietnam Airlines was the only carrier on the route to Phnom Penh and charged a hefty $160 to cover the 250 km distance. I remember taking a $6 Capitol (RIP to its service of moving people post-Covid, btw) bus to cover that distance around 2007, taking about 6 hours.

    A lot of travel bloggers are indistinguishable from ads. Thank you for being different. Your advice sounds like I'm hearing it from a friend, not a script.
    While living in Ha Noi we flew VN a few times. They where usually ok but in a crowded industry they need to do more to stand out.
    Your 100% right about the LCC influence; Ha Noi - Bangers visa runs where so cheap and convenient
    During covid we experienced a real difference; some acted like greedy corporates (VN and QANTAS) but some where doing their best in difficult circumstances (EVA and surprisingly PAL)
    Do you have anything coming on AirAsia or Bamboo Airways? Travel is opening up but some things have changed

    Because not many Vietnamese and Indonesian visit each other, there are very few flights between the two countries. For Vietnamese, Thailand is always our No. 1 foreign destination. South Korea is extremely well-connected because we receive an insane amount of Korean tourists. There are almost 10 flights per day from Da Nang to Seoul, and up to 4 to freaking Busan!!!

    • @tfft
      @tfft  ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe it’s the other way around. There isn’t much travel because there aren’t many flight. Kuala Lumpur was the same 6 years ago when there were only 1-2 flights per day. Now the flights between the countries are in the double digits. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻

      @@tfft It's about marketing as well. Malaysia has done a good job, plus it's a short hop from SGN to KUL, unlike Jakarta. Morever, I believe many Vietnamese fly to KUL without visiting the country, buy to connect to other parts of Asia and Australia, thanks to Air Asia's extensive network and cheap fares.

    Hey, nice video!
    also to put up to context on my table, and most of the time I fly on Vietnam Airlines' A321 before, here are some stuff.
    Currently, a majority of the A321s which have 16 business, and 168 economy seats do not have in-flight entertainment, even in Business Class. A select few A321s which has the monitors used for medium haul routes, and the ife is usually reserved for business class, so only 10 of them have personal in flight entertainment. Lastly, the A321neo they don't have in all seats, but they do have wireless in-flight entertainment.

Regarding takeoff and landings i have never been a fan of travel content makers who decide to fast forward the absolute best part of the flying experience. A better option is a skip point for those who wish to jump ahead and those who do not. I being among the latter.

      If I controlled the algorithm, all of my videos would be 30-40 minutes long 😂… but long videos with sections that the majority of viewers skip significantly hurt video performance and algorithm ranking, a big no no when trying to build a channel. Flights in/out of Jakarta are usually quite pricey compared to neighboring cities as there’s lots of premium passengers from CGK

    • @tfft
      @tfft  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Personally I think it’s much more a lack of competition. If it was simply because of premium demand than flying to Singapore and/or Bangkok would be significantly more expensive. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻

    • @JL-cr1lr
      @JL-cr1lr ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tfft but flying out of Singapore is ridiculously expensive as well. Often when you change the origin/destination to KUL/BKK/SGN, the price drops up to almost 40% or more ON SIA. The same can’t be said of CGK especially post-COVID since demand hasn’t been met and passengers who want to fly are still gonna pay regardless.

    • @sandyap7797
      @sandyap7797 ปีที่แล้ว

    Interesting video but the fare information seems to be from another flight. Consider it a convenience to go direct as in the older days one had to transit through Singapore or Kuala Lumpur. And in the mid nineties... a ticket to Singapore from Saigon cost over 500 dollars US and that's in 1995 dollars which were much more valuable than today!!

      Sure, but the same (lack of ties) could be said for many markets before LCCs enter. Take SGN-KUL for example. 6-7 years ago I believe there were two daily flights on VN and MH. VJ entered the market with one daily flight, then AirAsia, then Malindo, then Jetstar Pacific (I think) then increase frequency from MH and VN, increase destinations from AirAsia… within 3-4 years there were 10-12 daily flights between Saigon and Malaysia. Many times in this part of the world the market is created by the LCC. Accessibility is key. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻

      At worst, they’ll shed Pacific Airlines (which they should have anyway…). They’re not going anywhere, VNA is just literally 1-2 years behind the majority of airlines with COVID losses since for the first 17 months of the pandemic the country was operating near normal. For many years leading up the the pandemic they were profitable unlike most of their full service peers in the region.
