Osage Orange, also know as a hedge apple tree. Double the BTU of the next hottest burning wood. Settlers would quarter the apples, put them in buckets with water to break down over winter. Then take the mash and pour in a trench along property lines, growing a living fence line. Wasn't native to USA.
I think osage Orange is a different tree.
@@jasonhilliker492 Looks like that wood and those thorns are the same. The branches actually start growing as thorns, on Osage orange. But, could be a similar tree; I'm no arborist. 🙃
I believe this is also called Hawthorne and it does grow everywhere in the northern hemisphere, it's not got the same bark on it that Osage Orange has, I've turned both. or maybe it grows differently down south.
@@PohlBarnProductions Here in North Texas when you talk about Osage Orange you are talking about Bois d’ Arc (pronounced bodarc) tree. The fruit we call horse apples, or we did as kids. Also known as hedge apples. There are a number of homes of the late 19th century and early 20th century built here in DFW that were built upon piers made from bodarc trees. The wood is almost impervious to rot and is also used for fence posts. The OP is correct that bodarc trees were planted as wind breaks and hedge protection.
Gosh, the color of the epoxy and the beautiful grain of the wood just created a stunning piece, Doug.
Thank You Jane
That turned out stunningly beautiful Doug! Even with the special glitter bugs hiding in there holes 😊. Love and enjoy your premieres! ❤❤❤
Thank You Thank You
Hope you make more projects in these colors, would make a nice “neutral” galaxy base to make colorful planets pop more
Thank You Thank You
That's a pretty cool video animation for the Entry!
We had one of those trees when I was growing up as a child, wicked, wicked thorns I never knew the name of it but it was nothing to trifle with!
Those colors are perfect! I was not too sure about how the pewter would do, but it is another fantastic bowl...
Thank You Thank You, I think they are also called Hawthorn
Doug i absolutely love this bowl. I love the shape and the colour. I wish you wouldn't pull your work down. You are so good at what you do and most people enjoy your work.
Hi Doug! As usual, excellent work! You always say it's not perfect. Well, if I wanted perfect, I'd say watch machinery made stuff. The " imperfections "are what make it so beautiful. Thank you for sharing. Hi to all the pomskies and the other critters!
Thank You Thank You Kath
Thank You Kathi
Hi my friend from the North!!
Love your videos,I now I'm going to have a good time, when I see you pop up.
Thank You Thank You Sydney
Another gorgeous piece, Doug!!!
❤️❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you so much Samantha 😃
Glitter in the bug holes is a nice touch. It’s a lovely bowl.
I think so too! Thank You Derek
Those colors really go with the natural color of the wood. For a tree that is such a pain - the wood it offers up sure does make for a fine turning blank.
Thank You Qapla
Amazing artist like you have inspired me to give this a go. I'm working on buying my first lathe now and have a bunch of beautiful maple logs drying out in my yard. Hopefully I can come even close to the talent that you have.
Thank You Greg, seal the ends so they dry slow to reduce cracking
Douggggggg!!! I love it and I love the angles and the instructions! Thank you so so so much for having a premiere, I loved it, thank you yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!
Robinnnnnnnnnnn, Thank You
DOUG THATS A REALY NICE TURNING MY FRIEND. THE COLORS ARE AWESOME.VERY NICE .FROM DOUG

Beautiful bowl Doug... Great work
Thank You Skip
A royal bowl, great choice of colours, really nice contrast, brings out the beauty of the wood in the bowl. 😃
Thank you so much Fiona😀
It sort of looks like tortoiseshell and it's beautiful
Thank You Angela
Nice to see a good use of an evil tree! That is a really pretty bowl.
Thank You Ron
looking good Doug! that thorn apple has some great grain figure and spalting in it. almost worth the pain and pokes...
Thank You Zed
Wow it’s beautiful. The wood is gorgeous. Everything looks better with Gold ❤
Thank You Maddie
Great job turning a thorny Apple tree into a treasure 🎉😊
Thank You Lois
Turned out great. I like that new art resin look. My last one (all wood) took 6 coats of wipe on poly. Just kept soaking in. I've not heard of thorn apple but it looks good.
Thank you Rick, I think it's also called Hawthorne, it pretty much grows everywhere in the northern hemisphere,
Wow! Love the sparkles.
Thank You Kimberly
Really nice bowl Doug. Those thorns look ferocious!! At least the wood inside makes beautiful bowls. Thanks for sharing
Stuart
Thank You Stuart

Thank You Danielle, your likes are greatly appreciated and welcomed along with your comments
just love seeing what you do with these pieces of scrappy timber. They turn out so good
Thank You Julie
I think it would be cool to see some honey locust thorns in resin turned into a bowl/vase.
Thank You Jason, I have honey locust but no thorns from it
Doug, thanks for answering my question about the double pads. Sure wasn't expecting to see this on the vid but still cool. What a great piece of art for sure. You done SUPER yet again.
Thank You Steve, sometimes it's just easier to address it in the video, others might wonder the same thing
Beautiful work, beautiful bowl!
Thank You Anna
Beautiful bowl Doug
Thank you kindly Steve
A beautiful piece! The sparseness of the gold glitter made for a nice touch.
Thank You Elliiott
Beautiful result! I love when you let the wood take over! really nice!
Thank You Thank You
I would save the black and gold shavings, cast them into clear resin and make pendants out of them. Awesome piece with that wood. Another species I have learned to know.
Thank you Stephanie, the shaving were white, once put back into resin they would almost vanish and you'd be left with all the little trapped air bubbles in the cloudy resin, It's really not a good look
Great choices of resin additives, Doug. Very striking. Those thorns, though. As soon as you showed them I knew which trees you were talking about. Nasty. Well done dealing with the punky wood.
Thank You Thank You Jay
The bowl is beautiful! It’s super shiny too! I like the colors you chose.
Thank you Linda! 😊
Hello Doug I missed another live I was at another 60 th Birthday party but I am home now watching what I missed 👍
Thank You Thank You Liz, hope you had a happy Birthday
Another great looking piece. The colors went perfect with the wood, great looking, even if it isn't perfect (your words). Thanks for sharing and taking the time to make the video. I can't wait to see what you do next. Have a good one 👍👍👍
Thank You Scott
Greetings Doug, that is a beautiful piece of wood, your choice of colours was perfect well done, keep smiling.
.
Thank you Peter! Cheers!
Very nice Doug
Thank You Bret
Pretty. Because it turned out good I thought the gold was going to be with the top but it’s not actually very subtle, which makes me like it too.
Thank you Lynda,
That's my favorite so far❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank You Matt
Ooooo get you being all fancy pants with the glitter 😂

Thank You Brad

Thank you so much Dianne 😊
I really liked this one, I cringed when the dark grey went in, however it is the best thing that I like about it!!!! Nothing is perfect, it's the imperfections that makes it unique 👌 😊
Thank You Thank You Marie

Beautiful bowl Doug. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching Tony!
It’s beautiful! Great colors-they really go well with the wood.
Thank you so much Monica!
It came out really good! I bet that sanding down after the first epoxy coat is why the second one looks so good. I wonder how it would look with TEN coats. 😜
Thank you but I will never know, I don't have 2 weeks to leave it on my lathe LOL
That came out great Doug. Colors are spot on. Thx and and take care.
Thank You Thank You
Gorgeous piece, Doug. Never knew that type of tree existed; thanks for the info.
Thank You Lynda, You are very welcome
Nice job on the wood and colors. Enjoy your weekend.
Thank you Thank you
Very nice Doug. I didn't know about that type of apple and glad to find it wasn't Thorn Apple (Devils Apple) the botanical.
Thank you Mike, I believe it has many names and is everywhere in the northern hemisphere, including the UK, it's also called Hawthorne
Hi Doug! I was going to make an April Fools comment that this was absolutely horrible, but it’s now 4/2 so it’s too late. 😆 I actually like this. It’s kinda spacey. When you were pouring the colored resin in, I thought it was going to look ugly. Boy was I happily surprised! It’s awesome! Here’s a “sharp” idea… Collect a bunch of those thorny branches, or just the thorns, put them in resin and see what interesting piece you could make. Maybe you’ve already tried, but it was too bloody hard! 😉🙄😆 I wish I had some chunk of wood to send you! (No driftwood or seaweed) Something Central Coastal Southern Californian. Someday. Have a wonderful week and I’ll see you next video! 💫✨ Roma 🐘 🌲💚🌳🦅
Thank you Roma, I have friends from Cali and Washington send me wood all the time, the guy in Washington send me wood he get in Hawaii, no need to worry about sending me wood unless you really want to
Looks stunning! Great video! ❤

Growing up in Michigan I remember those dam trees! When I was about 7 or 8 a thorn apple thorn went in my eye socket, missed the eyeball but hurt like hell my friends mom had to come out in the woods and pull it out.
Thank You Cortland

Thank you so much Pete 😀

Thank you Angela, you too!

Nice project Uncle Doug.
Thank You Japie
love how the colors came out, reminds me of a fancy marble countertop in some fancy mansion. the thorn apple is beautiful too, i’ve never heard of it before. those thorns look brutal!
Thank You Dan
We've got Hawthorne, Osage orange, AND Black locusts trees, the trifecta of thorn trees 😜 All three have their good qualities, though.
I believe this is also called Hawthorn
