It never really occured to me until now that the Monsoon fight and the "I'm lightning" scene from MGS4 share their thematic core. In both, Raiden is heavily damaged, either mentally or physicaly. But by having someone else change his perspective, either Snake or Sam, he is able to overcome this hurdle and become closer to his true self. Adding to this, a monsoon is a wind that causes severe rain, like what Raiden describes happened during his birth. Meaning by questioning his morals and letting go of his restrains, he is "reborn" in a sense, being the lightning that splits the rain. Both figurativly and very literaly
