I'm really having fun with Solaris. I was way more excited for Alvo but this has IMO been way more fun. Can't beat the price of $12.49 either!

Same, I was very skeptical but Solaris is the most fun I've had in a a while. They learned from Firewall and fixed every issue, top marks to FCE!
I am the exact opposite, this game is cool but just makes me want to play Alvo.

Wasn't even worth that since it was useless garbage after the 1st 30 days with no players EVER.
As Someone who never really clicked with Firewall since I spent more time watching other people play the match when I get killed within the first few mintues, the idea of this frantic team deathmatch style gameplay at an affordable price is really promising.
We think you may like it, but we might be a little biased ;)

"It's a lot more fun than it looks" is an understatement.
Awesome review Bryan! It can be quite a tricky process, because on the one hand, you have to provide a forthright evaluation of the game's pros & cons... but on the other, it fundamentally just becomes a question of how much fun the experience provides. You brilliantly covered it all.
The core gameplay of Solaris: Offworld Combat is absolutely fantastic in my opinion, but its long-term success really comes down to how regularly First Contact Entertainment delivers updates with new maps and unlockable content. If it becomes a continually evolving eco-system, I think this could easily become PSVR GOTY.
At least every other match I play, I find myself thinking "This game is so much fun!" (in more flowery language though haha) and I know I'm not the only one, because I hear so many other players exclaim it too.
If you own PSVR, get your hands on an aim controller and this game while the community is buzzing.

Nice review Bryan! I share lots of your views here, but as you know, I love this game!!! The first review score I submitted for this on Quest was 2/5 because of all the issues with the game. 3 months later, the same issues were there, but I found I was still playing it nearly everyday regardless, so I changed my review score to 5/5! Clearly that makes it a personal rating rather than an objective one though!! 😆

Stellar review Bryan. I am having an absolute blast playing Solaris. For me, the negatives that you noted are not much of a concern because it is so fun to play. Also, I look to Firewall and see how much they have updated it, making things fresh that I have no worries that the same level of attention will be given to Solaris.

Great review! Since Firewall Zero Hour is by far my most played VR game, I can't wait to get my hands on Solaris..this developer knows how to make an awesome multiplayer game in VR!

I picked this up after seeing your stream on release day. It is a really fun game and well worth it's current price point. Once it goes up in price it will be a harder sell.

Good simply shooter that even people new to online shooters can play. The ps+ price is selling point here.
We designed it to be easy to play, but tough to master! Glad you like that price point too :)
I played 1 game which was super fun. I then got stuck in a endless warmup match. 😂🤣 I was lucky enough to get it free on your stream so I can’t complain. 😁😁

Great review as always (except that one time ; ). Fun game with a lot of potential. Love First Contact! Here's hoping Solaris does well for them. Side note: The 3 second delay before respawning seems like it's important to the flow of combat but boy oh boy does feel like an eternity LOL.

I thought this was fun but with Alvo having just came out before I just dont feel compelled to play this over Alvo. I tried to get into it but the lack of being able to jump just made me want to go back to Alvo. I do enjoy the vr lazer tag style though.
This came out at just the right time for me. I've been playing ALVO since launch but the devs need more time to bring us new maps, mode, etc. So Solaris was perfect to help pass the time until ALVO's next big update. :D
Guys are you actually serious about those comments? The game takes 1 hour to find a match, the camera glitches forcing you to reboot the game and praying to find another match.
The delay on the machine gun is ridiculous... And when players are good as it they just spam slide making it impossible to hit them...

The quote "this is more fun than it looks" really applied to me. Did not think much of it, but playing it had me hooked in a few minutes. I can understand the notion, that the Maps are not distinguished enough, but from my experience, I can already tell on which map I am just from the glimpse of the start area. Every map has its own flavor. The prospect of getting new maps because it is easier to build is also way more enticing.
Having just a few customizable options is disappointing. But this is something that people are yearning for and will make them come back with the next big update :-D

I've been waiting for this game forever, but the issues with availability in EU countries haven't been solved yet.. When i change the storefront to UK it's there to buy, but not if i happen to live in the Netherlands for example, which i do, i have to get it from my region specifically to purchase.. Really annoying since it's still missing in action. FCE trusted me they are aware of the problem so it will be solved sooner or later i guess, but it's dissapointing for sure. Anyway, all you lucky ones that are playing it right now have fun! I will join in as soon as Sony lets me!😢🖐️

The game is amazing, it has a loooot of potential, there’s a lot that can and should be added, more game modes, more maps, more guns, more music. It’s great now, but to keep it going, they need to add a lot more.
I played it for the first time yesterday. I experienced motion sickness and had to stop. I'll be giving it another try tonight.
Did you try with comfort settings on? We did a lot of testing, and we have some team members that are very susceptible to motion sickness.

i feel like i would love this game because it completely fills out the box of a fast paced and cool shooter though i dont have the aim controller and im a bit hesitant to buy it because of that since i havent really liked the whole dualshock 4 with vr vibe
If you're hesitant I'd say either wait until you have an AIM or just skip it altogether. The AIM makes games like Solaris infinitely more fun to play. :D
Will buy when/if they release a standard death match mode.
The node system is better. Brings everyone together into the same room for an epic shootout

Very few maps work well for a TDM style mode, just watch how the warm up plays out! That being said, never say never!

I think it's good not to split up the player base. For me it is really motivating not to look at death at the end of a match but what you contributed to the main goal of the team.

tbh the maps are kinda boring looking and i cant see how they can add more with them being so bland
Understand how you feel, but they are supposed to be more like a field/pitch/court than a map. Focus is more on the the map flow rather than aesthetics, hope you'll give us a shot!

Match making needs sorting.. I cant get a match.. Waste of time if I'm honest.. Looks awesome tho... Wish I'd of brought a takeaway instead I'd wait for less time... 😂
It sucks. On launch week we had a lot of fun and generally had short waits between matches. But now it's kind of a mess.
I just got the game today. Didn't find any matches.
I used to play solaris untill i took an arrow to the knee....
I won't be buying anymore games from them until they add other modes like team deathmatch 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️

FFS. they just use 1 mode at a time..i mean how hard is it to have just 1 game with 3-4 modes instead of creating a whole new game that just plays 1 mode? Coudn't they just add to firewall a TDM mode? flags? free-for-all? there wasnt a need for this game, for me. at east the way it was created.

I didn't jump on it not even for the discount because I've seen the occulus PC players say its online servers are vacant this is a sign of things to come for me I watched someone honestly try to review it less than a month ago and they couldn't even get a full stable lobby I'm not interested in another code 51 mech arena or space junkies situation an otherwise fun game hindered and cut short by poor matchmaking that will kill a title faster than anything else especially when the game is designed for PvP. VR players are simply tired of empty promises from devs we are not investing our time or money into post launch fairytales of content to come only for the project to be abandoned less than a year after release. Sinn studio (swordsmanVR) should stand as a pillar to others they bang out content for the fun of it and genuinely respond to feedback despite being a small independent.
Firewall is terrible, yourealize it after a while. terrible game, psvr is a joke.
