I created my fursona’s name based on the name of closest shade of blue of my fursona’s main blue. It was “Azurean” and I decided to take out the second “a” so I can change the pronunciation from “Az-er-een” to “Az-er-ehn.” It makes the name more calm in a way.

He's a lizardfolk artificer who started as a High Guardian Spice OC (made out of spite for only having human-passing characters in their fantasy show). His name came from a flower/tree that has the common name Dragon's Blood, pointing to him being reptilian and taking a jab at the plant-themed naming scheme of the show that doesnt include any spices, instead herbs, so I gave myself free reign of "it just needs to be a plant." Now I'm trying to come up with a new name for my standard fursona lmao.
Dusker, from dusk and my favorite time of day. Dusk is so peaceful, tranquil and has some pretty, pale colors as it turns to night depending on weather and where you live. I live in Northern Alberta Canada, close to the Northern Lights and we get some really nice ones here. Nightshade, from the Belladonna plant which is commonly known as Deadly Nightshade. It's a very pretty purple color, and oils from it have been used to poison people. I thought it suited a jaguar fursona as they are beautiful, but can kill you.
Fun fact, using parts of languages (such as dipthongs) work a lot. Just take your favorite letters and slap them together until it makes sense. Referencing certain names of other things (idk, like for what I wanna do, warship names) also might help.
A few years ago (ok, 22 years ago) when I started getting online and going into those newfangled chat rooms and message boards, I wanted to use a name that didn't identify me personally like my given name would, so I looked to my list of Commodore 64 video games. I went through a few and eventually I landed on my game Skyfox II, which I took as just the name Skyfox. It really stuck, and this was long before I knew anything about the furry fandom. When I went to my first furry convention in 2008 that's the registration name I used, and when I realized "theez are my peeplez!" and saw just how much of a furry I actually was, it remained a very fitting name for me ever since because (1) I love foxes and feel a very close identity with them, and (2) as a pilot I always loved being up in the sky.
i came up with Lycos by slightly changing the greek word for wolf (L ýkos) turns out there's some old search engine out there also called lycos, oh well
I went way outside the box when choosing a fursona name. My sona is a fox named HEMI, I'm a mechanic IRL, and I've always liked the old 426 HEMI engine, so I decided to name my Fursona after my favorite engine. My online fursona is HEMI-Fox426. for obvious reasons. I made myself a custom Rexouium in Mopar Orange, with Black trim and a 70s Dodge styled HEMI arm tattoo on my upper right arm. I'm currently making my own fursuit with a similar appearance. I've also based on the Rexouium avatar. I'd have it commissioned, but it's too expensive for my budget, so I'm using my own paws, and skills to make it myself.
heres a couple more tips if you dont mind!! think of a cute object or motif you like! like .. for me i like baskets a lot, i have a lot of them, so based on that a fursona could be named .. basket, picnic, wicker, willow, withe, reed, gingham, weaver, etc. ! go to roots of words or cool sounding words!if someone likes black and mystery it could be.. enigma, susurrus, nyct, nyx, noct, or like .. enyctma ajsjfj!! aesthetics you like! if youre into kidcore / nostalgia it cld be kinder, goldfish, stickers, smarties, or taffy or something!
Those are some good tips. Especially not using the main character from a show or movie and using a more obscur character. That way if anyone recoginzes it you'll know you found another hard core fan

Translating Crystal to latin gives you 'Crystallo' you can either keep it as crystallo if you like that as a name, or do what i did and shorten it. I cut off the beginning and turned it into Stallo I really enjoy going between these two things when coming up with a characters name and i find it help create bunches of super creative and unique names

If I were to make a female character based off of the Waltz of the Flowers from The Nutcracker, for example, I might name her Clara, Lilac, or Lily!
Most of my fursonas are also named after some people, too! Ludwig is named after Beethoven, Wolfgang is named after Mozart, and Sprite is, well, just Sprite!
Despite the fact that my fursona is mostly white, I still named him Blu, because he wears mostly shades of blue. Also shades of blue are my favorite colors.
