I’m sure everyone experienced this film differently. Though I feel I’m that small percentage of people who broke down completely at the end when he just sat on the bench and accepted his fate. A beautiful, simplistic scene with enormous power. Really made the film special and above so many.

WTF my two favorite movies of 2020 are Amazon movies!!
Sound of Metal and The Vast of Night.
As a former drummer the fleets of ringing ears is very real. Sometimes it lasts an uncomfortable amount of time. In that context parts felt like a horror movie.

Ooo! I'll have to check out _The Vast of Night_ then!

Great film. Such a nice break from the stupid super hero stuff hollywood is saturated with. So full of emotion. Sadness, love, loss, redemption, pity, anger, rejection. Just a beautiful, thoughtful film.

I'm may be wrong but I thought that comments have a minimal effect compared to other engagement factors like watchtime since... you know bots and all that...

Great review and have subscribed.....chapeau.....often with these types of films....especially as a European I find things coming from Hollywood try to tick the boxes for everything when it comes to social human issues like this......one solution rarely fits all for humans so the tone of the piece and the story telling was in my opinion just perfectly weighted.....there was no need to take us into extensive operating bed scenes nor try and fill us with pathos by going into deaf community issues in depth......instead the director opted to say......in a soft voice....not shouting it out.....that this is a story of a man who becomes deaf......silence.....that's an easily understood concept after all......the dread is easy to feel.....we finds ourselves popping our earssnf wondering about our own hearing......and most of all the ending is just........perfect......I recommend Happy as Lazarro for a film with similar elegance, Grace and long-lasting effect

This movie was awful. It makes it seems like any choice other than total deafness is bad and evil. This movie was far from believable. This isn’t how it goes when someone meets with an audiologist. People don’t lose their hearing then go off to a deaf commune. People don’t just pay 80 grand and get an implant. I also thought it was interesting that the movie didn’t overtly say dude lost his hearing due to his heroine addiction. The movie wanted to demonize a cochlear implant but not heroine? I’m sorry. Talk to a person who loses their hearing as an adult. This won’t come out so rosey.

Mate I don’t think you understood the movie very well

He went to a deaf commune because he had addiction issues, not only because he became deaf. His NA sponsor referred him. And it's true that implants are not covered by insurance in most cases.

I think What they Were trying to Say was, the Implant wouldn't solve anything. His life Had altered and He needed to accept that. things would never goback to the way they Were before.

Funny when a person enforces so much logic, it ruins the experience completely. Meanwhile, completely losing the entire point of the film. Rather annoying when 90-95% of people call a movie amazing, and that small 5-10% just fail to comprehend anything and ruin a movies rating. *deep sigh*
