It's a simple strategic move by Yamaha. - Reduce features during the introduction phase. Incash the bike as a whole. - Introduce it as a CBU with a higher price and blame CBU costs. - One year later, Make it in India. Now you already have higher price in place. Make profits with that price. - Then introduce missing features and make prospects happy. 2-3 years will pass like this.
Dont think Yamaha can even recover the cost of sending Auto Journalist to Thailand with the sales of these bikes.300 cc cbu bikes at a time when all global brands are manufacturing in India for the world.
Have been using the R3 from 2015 Sept. And after 111000+ kms, can quite surely say, it's one of the best touring bikes that I could've got. Been to almost every terrain with this bike, and everywhere R3 performed flawlessly. Even today, the engine sounds like first day. The acceleration is like new one. The handling and ergonomics are just spot on. And the FE is still around 30-31 kmpl at a cruise speed of 100-110 kmph. Don't think any other bike can do things like R3 does, yes even after taking note of D390 and N300. Have a maintenence cost of approx 1.9 INR/km over the whole period the R3 is there with me, and that's including every spares and tires excluding only the fuel cost. It just doesn't fail. And the braking in my bike has been excellent, even without ABS, I never felt the need of ABS. So this bike has been a keeper for me for sure and I'm not gonna part with it. Excellent analysis though @Autocar India. The rear suspension jumps around a bit but if you try out the preset 5, it'll be much better. The default it comes is at preset 3.
@@RishaadMody1 , yes. Touring perspective it has been a great bike. Most of my ODO is being done due to B'lore - Mumbai and B'lore - Kolkata and some trips to the Himalayas. What impressed me more is when the bike did Gramphoo - Batal - Kaza in 2018 with full load on and without any hiccup. That's when I was like fully impressed. I'm a 5'6" person and the riding triangle is perfect for me. So much that I used to cover 300+ kms without even stopping once or 1200 kms in a day, such a good tourer this bike is. And for you and Autocar, I've nothing to say. You guys are the end of discussion for me when it comes to automobiles. Thanks for the amazing videos. Keep them on.
@@arnabchowdhury9645 Thanks for the genuine user review! Am mighty impressed! What are the maintenance procedures you rigorously follow? How much times have you replaced the clutch and how do we know that when the clutch has to be replaced? Has the engine been ever opened? What about valve clearance? I know am sounding technical but just like you I prefer retaining and using stuff long-term. My 2018 R15V3 has crossed 40,000 KMs and am witnessing fuel efficiency drop over the last 7000 KMs. Needless to say that the engine note has become gruff and gearbox feels coarse. And, when loaded with another person in the rear, acceleration dips with just the engine booming as the revs rise. Your suggestions please.
@@gentlethrottle I maintain the R3 as religiously as possible. Like changing fork oil every year. Both wheel bearing, swingarm bush and cone-set lubrication after every monsoons. Chain maintenance every 1000 kms even though I use Scotoiler vSystem. Chain sprocket changed thrice in total - first time at 40K kms, second at 80K kms and 3rd at 110K kms. Cone-set changed twice - 1st at 80K kms and 2nd at 110K kms. Second one had to be changed quickly as bike use has reduced drastically after Mar 2020. My bike had covered 100K kms by Feb 2020. After that, till now it covered only 11K kms. Swingarm replaced at 110K kms as rusting happened. Brake pads, both changed twice till now. At 40K kms and at 90K kms. Clutch plates, total 7 in number, changed once at 67K kms as I was going to do Ladakh-Spiti in 2018. No engine work ever done except changing the cam chain tensioner once at 97K kms. Valve clearance gets checked every 20K kms. Has always been within the tolerance limit, both the intake and exhaust ones. And other general maintenance like engine oil, oil filter and air filter change every 4K kms. Plugs change every 10K kms. Using CR9E. Fuel injector cleaning done every 20K kms. Recently got throttle body syncing and cleanup of throttle body, fuel tank and fuel pump.
The Console is very basic, the feature list is too short to talk about. Except for that twin cylinder, nothing is worth that cost. Heck even it looks more like R15 V3.
Wow! Thanks Yamaha India! Thank you for these overpriced stock clearance units from Thailand ❤ please bring the leftover R7 and MT07 bikes in 5 years and keep the pricing above 15 lakhs to make it a compelling buy 🥹👍🏽
Really the world famous MT 07, R 7 and the Tenere 700 should be launched. All these are fun motorbikes with their famous CP2 engine. Also they should launch the MT 09. People are only thinking about USD forks riding modes, etc... but Yamaha CP2 series engines are real hooligan bikes. Our people don't understand. Yamaha can also do a high performance single in the 400 - 450 cc category with all the categories (street fighter, sport and adventure)
Be it the cars or bikes, the mentality of we Indians is that it has to look very fancy or futuristic no matter how good the performance is. Its sad, but thats the truth.
No doubt these motorcycles are good but now the Competition in Indian Market is much more than when yamaha introduced R15 Hero karzima, Pulsar, tvs give now much more reliability performance and Look preety much now better than These bikes
I love the looks n ive been waiting for the bikes for more than a year now since the time i heard the roumers of the return. However the bikes are outdated no slipper clutch no traction control no tft display. Guys comeon even the r15 has all these things. Highly disappointed.
The performance and the ride seems very good on both R3 and MT-03 but I don't think it will sell like the KTM 390s or the Speed 400s given its CBU and has lesser features than the both , but honestly it might be good for the brand's image, it's probably better to go for Aprilla RS 457
we are waiting for R3 & MT03 from 4 years ... but we expected CKD units in india ..& expected price on road under 4.3 to 4.5 ...? CBU is very expensive for indian YAMAMA R3 fans & enthusiasts
The R3 is too little, too late. No equipment..No fancy tech.. Boring color..and a CBU 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ Its a fantastic bike though. The MT03 proves that Honda and yamaha doesn't care about customer/market feedback. FZ sales dropped due the same ugly front end with the single projector. The most disgusting and inefficient headlight setup in the history of yamaha. The new FZ ditched the old setup and has been relaunched with a proper conventional led headlamp unit. But the MT03 carries it!
5 lackh on road for this ... yamaha wale khud hi kharid lenge khud hi chala le lenge .. they won't be importing too many that's for sure at this price point coz there won't be any sale
I dont think yamaha is gonna launch the same model in India, if R15 is giving so much and R3 is so less in features, nobody gonna buy it. Yamaha will be giving all those things that are coming in R15, I believe
Seems like they have made this bike only to beat ninja 300 maybe that's why it doesn't has many features and if its thats the case then aprillia will completely destroy it

Yamaha is missing out a big chunk of the market by being reluctant to launch two more bikes based on the same engine. A Tenere 300 and an XSR/RD 300 under 5L OTR. A T3 would be a proper unicorn tier bike and the xsr would be more like the rebirth of the notorious rd350. Yamaha would sell like hot cakes considering its reliability, looks and nostalgia. Really informative review brother. Keep up the good work. People like you could express the opinion of the public to the brand. Yamaha already said they would produce T3 if there is enough demand. They certainly has the techological capability and resources. Sadly, they are now making bikes for people who don't care about the brand while conveniently avoiding their true connoisseurs. ✌️
@@gnanasabaapatirg7376 Only Indian brands or their collaborators care about us. Japs just want to sell scooters and 150 cc bikes in large volumes or sell their premium bikes that cost as much as mid segment cars/SUVs. Nothing in the ~40 hp range that is affordable. Honda is not properly using the cb300r/cbr250 engine and Yamaha the r3 / fz25 engine. Oftentimes they roll out mid segment bikes with a premium price tag and blame the market if it fails. Eg. Cb500f/x. Honda is now trying to eat the market of RE by making bikes that look just like RE with better reliability. Hope they bring something that is sensibly priced to rival the new Himalayan. They could use the cb300r engine in a better tune (~35-40hp) to make an adv under 3.5l. Even, Yamaha could easily use the fz25 engine in a better state of tune (~30hp) to make something that looks like a Tenere under 3l.
As of now i believe tha bike is brought in as CBD units right and when the R3 and MT O3 are made in India am sure the spares will be shared between R15 and Mt15 so they might be getting TFT and travtion controll. Even FZ gets traction controll now days coz of parts sharing right 😂
So you are telling me the puny r15 gets a slipper clutch but this doesn’t. Shame on yamaha 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ i was really looking forward to buy this one after knowing that with 2024 standards it doesn’t get any sort of features but slipper clutch is a decade old feature. Then these companies say they don’t bring there big bikes because they don’t sell. Why would someone buy these trash when even Indian manufacturers are making such cool motorcycles.
I have owned a BS4 R3 for the past 5 years and 72000 kms on the odo. Guess how many times the bike broke down or left me stranded?? . . . . . . . . . Just once because I didn't change the battery on time and the battery died while I was touring. It's not the bike's fault so the answer is none. That's what you pay for.
What I have noticed apart two beautiful machines,is cleanliness in Thailand 🇹🇭,well marked road. Here in India I found cleanliness and well made road but it limited to elite areas, although our Babus come from one most difficult exam, but when come to deliver on ground they failed.
More than 95% of our roads lack street lighting at night and, thus, increases a lot of risks especially from the brightness of the headlights of the vehicles coming from the opposite side! It will take a lot more decades for India to get that level of standard of infrastructure!
I loved MT-03 a lot, its literally my type of bike, i love naked sports more than the complete sports ones, but still R3 looks good, not as good as the previous one, but ok. Only let down is that they will lack features as compared to their little brothers MT 15 and r15
The new Yamaha R3 is just a bike with a reliable engine and two wheels the power of R3 comes after 8 to 9k RPM and below that it's a normal 150cc motorcycle. And obviously in the city this bike is useless. Afterall it doesn't have a TFT display, it doesn't have a Bluetooth, it doesn't have a navigation, it doesn't have any electronics such as a quickshifter, it doesn't have any adustability settings. It has suspensions softer than 200cc bike, it has shitty tyres and this bike initially will be a CBU unit which means it will be a very expensive machine. SO THE NEW YAMAHA R3 IS A SHITTY MOTORCYCLE.
I recently came across some videos of owners complaining about issues showing up on their new bikes of this capacity from Bajaj-Triumph, KTM, Hero-Harley and RE. If Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki had well-priced and appropriate bikes for the competition then these Japanese bikes would seriously dominate while not disappointing their owners after buying them.
India appears to be significantly ahead of the West, as evidenced by my North American perspective. Here, one can acquire a basic electric bicycle for approximately $1000-3000, (Chinese Shit) boasting a range of 50-100 km. Interestingly, within the same budget, one can obtain iconic motorcycles like Royal Enfield or Jawa.
Is Yamaha India living under a rock? 1. No slip and assist clutch, coloured display or connectivity features at 4-4.6 lakhs? No traction control or 150 rear tyres? 2. This bike is a great product indeed but it’s barebones. Superb on the road and still a disappointing package overall. 3. Why pay 2.5 Lakhs for a 155cc bike and 4-5 for a 300cc? Wake up Yamaha India. 🗿

Yamaha simply states that it has a ‘light clutch action’. From what I could tell the rear wheel hops under multiple downshifts and it does not feel like there’s a slip function in place
@@RishaadMody1noted, thank u. So no slipper clutch🥲 Incidentally Varun Painter echoed ur opinion too, while Overdrive went with Bikewale 😅 Here's me hoping that this R3 is a 4.4 lakh on road bike🤞
Yamaha trying to dump 2015 old unsold stocks in India for so high price. They made no sense vs duke390 back then. Crap yamaha atleast design a new engine to match 440 engines (speed 400, Himalayan 452, aprilia 400). This will be dead on arival category.
Idk if Yamaha are arrogant, uninterested or just plain stupid in Indian market. There's no reason for them to launch this CBU bike at this price. Duke 390 is a direct competitor in global market and is better than it for almost the same price. Why would anyone pay 1.5 lakh more for an inferior bike ? Really disappointed. You can only go ao far in the name of reliability and twin cylinders. Yamaha has its presence in India and has a large network and it makes no sense for them to be so conservative in their approach in the 300 cc segment. New players like triumph and harley davidson are not shying away and launching their products and Yamaha is still stuck with FZ and R15 and repackaging it every couple of years in the name of a new version. All their customers who've had FZ and R15 will switch to the higher cc motorcycles from other brands.
The bike 1.10 lakhs more expensive than they should be. With double cylinder and slightly smaller engine ninja is priced at 3.40 lakhs. Ktm 390 with more ponnies and better tech at 3.10 lakhs. Their only selling points is Japanese name tag ie reliable engine, which kawasaki has as well. I can give you in writing with kind of price this bike is going to get smoked by its competition in India. No matter how successful it is worldwide. The best way to slash that price is to manufacture locally by tieing up with local companies. I hope the fans don't take it personally I am freaking in love with Yamahas engine refinement but at this cost it's just too much.
People don't understand when whole bike is built n imported to India mean it has far more superior quality thn ur single cylinder ktms. Plus that double cylinder engine is way way eay far relaible thn ktms. R3 is proper track sports bikes which ktms are not. People just thing good bike mean just throttling on straight. Importing definitely makes it expensive. But their's no doubt it ll last double the years of ktm 390s. Its so so depressing to see how youtubers n youtube chapri community in India just successfully spreading misinformation n hatred against legendary vehicles. Aprilia will never be as good as R3 on track. Never
Disappointed by Yamaha. I was waiting to upgrade from my Royal Enfield. Seems I will have to go for KTM 390. The look is really 10 year old and cost of acquiring is above 5L in Telangana
I think these motorcycles are going to be big time flops. They don’t even look like they are big bikes and design looks, to be honest, below par as compared to the 15s. If launched at 4 L+, they ain’t gonna get a decent sales figures. That is why hate Yamaha India. Don’t know why they bring sub standard products to India and upgrade them much later down the track. Can’t understand their mentality.
While MT03 still feels not too old, R3 looks like it is 10 years old design Look at r15m and MT15 its way better looking than these supposedly flagship bikes Yamaha just continue with R15 and MT 15 only pls 😂
Lol nothing's been updated with respect to features and display in R3 Just like ninja 300 😑 You are paying +4Lakh for this outdated machines..... They just want to rollout their new bikes asap to compete with other brands..!
This product will be yet another flop from Yamaha. Usually it’s the price but this time around it’ll be price and what it offers. I think if Aprilia price it right (but showroom tells me it’ll be 4 ex so won’t be cheap) could blow Yamaha out of the water even more so. After this flop Yamaha will yet again blame the Indian market and refuse to bring anything good here. Same old Yamaha.
Everyone is talking about price & cheap electronics rather than quality reliability parallel twins Refinement maintenance riding experience and more because of this cheap mentality honda yamah don't launch good bikes like cbr 150r cbr 250rr yamaga sxr yamaha r25 etc grow up friends.

While Yamaha offers Traction Control in their scooters and 150cc commuters than there is this shit which shows how much better Indian made products are nowadays.
Word !!! Coming from an owner these words should be etched in stone. Disappointing stuff by Yamaha !
@@shivvashishthabhargava4600 I do love R3 but after owning interceptor which was priced much less than this and now aeroxx.I can understand the over pricing last time but traction control in a scotter but not in your premium bike is unacceptable.

Great bike from YAMAHA. If under 4 lakhs then they can expect some units. But if above that they can be seen struggling.
5.3L 😂
It's a simple strategic move by Yamaha.
- Reduce features during the introduction phase. Incash the bike as a whole.
- Introduce it as a CBU with a higher price and blame CBU costs.
- One year later, Make it in India. Now you already have higher price in place. Make profits with that price.
- Then introduce missing features and make prospects happy.
2-3 years will pass like this.
So you get slipper clutch, qs, traction control better console on R15 but not on 3 times more expensive R3??
Dont think Yamaha can even recover the cost of sending Auto Journalist to Thailand with the sales of these bikes.300 cc cbu bikes at a time when all global brands are manufacturing in India for the world.
Fit n Finish is decent to average
Quality is outdatedly old
Price lies in top tier bracket
Hard luck Yamaha...💔
Thanks, I did some touring on one back in 2016 and really enjoyed it as well. Wouldn't want to do that on its rivals
@@arnabchowdhury9645 Great! How to diagnose a bad clutch?
6:30 sound gone and video lagged here! Same at end of PERFORMANCE chapter!
Yamaha must upgrade these bikes to keep them on par with the competition. Mechanically it is a strong product but the software needed to be upgraded
Aprilia RS457 will be more appealing
I was about to post the glitches..
But no. The content is just too good to complain..
Thanks for making it Rishaad
Really the world famous MT 07, R 7 and the Tenere 700 should be launched. All these are fun motorbikes with their famous CP2 engine. Also they should launch the MT 09.
People are only thinking about USD forks riding modes, etc... but Yamaha CP2 series engines are real hooligan bikes. Our people don't understand.
Yamaha can also do a high performance single in the 400 - 450 cc category with all the categories (street fighter, sport and adventure)
I wish India has such beautiful roads (not only NHs).
Lol keep dreaming
Be it the cars or bikes, the mentality of we Indians is that it has to look very fancy or futuristic no matter how good the performance is. Its sad, but thats the truth.
No doubt these motorcycles are good but now the Competition in Indian Market is much more than when yamaha introduced R15 Hero karzima, Pulsar, tvs give now much more reliability performance and Look preety much now better than These bikes
Well summed up ... Those who buy these will be "quite" and " happy" 😅
Fit this engine into R15m and it would even sell more than original 😅
I love the looks n ive been waiting for the bikes for more than a year now since the time i heard the roumers of the return. However the bikes are outdated no slipper clutch no traction control no tft display.
Guys comeon even the r15 has all these things.
Highly disappointed.
I’d rather buy the outdated ninja 300 than an outdated r3
The design of the r3 looks blunt cos the previous gen r3 was sharp and amazing. Even r15 v3 has shaper looking face than this.
stock clearance by yamaha..very good
The performance and the ride seems very good on both R3 and MT-03 but I don't think it will sell like the KTM 390s or the Speed 400s given its CBU and has lesser features than the both , but honestly it might be good for the brand's image, it's probably better to go for Aprilla RS 457
Even in western countries where it's priced same as KTM 390 people prefer the KTM over this bike.
When do you think aprillia will launch with pricing

we are waiting for R3 & MT03 from 4 years ... but we expected CKD units in india ..& expected price on road under 4.3 to 4.5 ...? CBU is very expensive for indian YAMAMA R3 fans & enthusiasts
It looks like a new engine but the electronic and some imp features are missing at this price point
R15 has more features than R3...if they redesign R3 to look as good as R15 and get all the impotent features....R3 will sell like Hot Cakes
Old R3 was the best looking
The R3 is too little, too late. No equipment..No fancy tech.. Boring color..and a CBU 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ Its a fantastic bike though. The MT03 proves that Honda and yamaha doesn't care about customer/market feedback. FZ sales dropped due the same ugly front end with the single projector. The most disgusting and inefficient headlight setup in the history of yamaha. The new FZ ditched the old setup and has been relaunched with a proper conventional led headlamp unit. But the MT03 carries it!
"The design is evolving but backwards"😢
Older r3 was way better in looks compared to the new one, remembring those sharp looking twin headlamps.
5 lackh on road for this ... yamaha wale khud hi kharid lenge khud hi chala le lenge .. they won't be importing too many that's for sure at this price point coz there won't be any sale
Who needs sleep and assist clutch when you have mastered rev matching and it's in your muscle memory.
Exactly! That too in a small bike like this one😂
They charge so high because they didn't want to end like a KTM ... In India KTM is for Chapri people 🤮🤮🤮
I dont think yamaha is gonna launch the same model in India, if R15 is giving so much and R3 is so less in features, nobody gonna buy it. Yamaha will be giving all those things that are coming in R15, I believe
Both the bikes are ugly.....just unequivocally ugly. I wanted to put that on record.
Seems like they have made this bike only to beat ninja 300 maybe that's why it doesn't has many features and if its thats the case then aprillia will completely destroy it
MT03 buyers can go for CB300R, the great 'pocket rocket 🚀'
Having ridden both, I can confidently say:
I hated the Honda CB300. Yamaha R3 is so much better.
Yamaha needs to seriously update and upgrade these bikes before they launch them in India

4L for both would have been sweet😅❤

In My View it has outstanding Performance Which cant Be Ignored, Definitely Yamaha will Bounce Back with its performance Feedback Soon
✌️
Same with Honda refusing to bring back cbr r versions. They had them when they were no buyers.
Too little, too late. Unfortunately, Yamaha India has lost its plot.

Looks like its not selling much in Indonesia and dumping it in India ?
I loved MT-03 a lot, its literally my type of bike, i love naked sports more than the complete sports ones, but still R3 looks good, not as good as the previous one, but ok. Only let down is that they will lack features as compared to their little brothers MT 15 and r15
With current specs sales figures will be not shocking 😔

Bikewale claimed that these twins have a slip and assist clutch... Autocar says otherwise
Who's correct?
Yamaha simply states that it has a ‘light clutch action’. From what I could tell the rear wheel hops under multiple downshifts and it does not feel like there’s a slip function in place
@@RishaadMody1noted, thank u. So no slipper clutch🥲
Incidentally Varun Painter echoed ur opinion too, while Overdrive went with Bikewale 😅
Here's me hoping that this R3 is a 4.4 lakh on road bike🤞
While MT03 still feels not too old, R3 looks like it is 10 years old design
Look at r15m and MT15 its way better looking than these supposedly flagship bikes
Yamaha just continue with R15 and MT 15 only pls 😂
Lol nothing's been updated with respect to features and display in R3 Just like ninja 300 😑
You are paying +4Lakh for this outdated machines.....
