    I made this video for my friend Jeff, who was wondering how to use a jar of pesto sauce I gave him 😀 And you, what tips do you have to get the best out of store-bought pasta sauces?

    I have somehow gleaned a lot of this knowledge over the years, but watching you make it made me smile, because it showed me I'm doing something right.
    The biggest game changer for me has to be using DeCecco or other bronze-cut pasta. Fancy, Double O pastas can be very pricey, but DeCecco is relatively inexpensive. Maybe $2-3 a pound? The flavor and the way it mixes with the sauce are unparalleled. Also, I check my fridge to see if I have anything good to add to the sauce, like fresh garlic, onion, herbs, spices, vegetables, etc. (Cook them in a little olive oil then add the jarred sauce to them.)
    Next I have to make a massive pot of Mama's sauce, and quit store-bought sauce altogether.

    I always found it was more difficult to try and finish cooking the pasta once it was in the pan.. Just get it out a minute before and drop it in the sauce with a little bit of starchy water..it will still finish cooking, and the starchy water will still make the sauce creamier, but the sauce won't get watery.. which is something might happen if you add too much water. After all, it takes longer for the water to evaporate than it takes for the pasta to finish cooking..

    • @hugolachs6620
      @hugolachs6620 ปีที่แล้ว

      Does dropping with starchy water mean no no extra bowl with water?

    • @ReallyUnexplainable
      @ReallyUnexplainable ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hugolachs6620 Yeah. The goal is to cook the pasta in the sauce for the last 5%, while in the video you have to cook the pasta at least 30% of the way in the pan. It works the same, but it's just extra steps in my opinion.

    How long do we have to cook the pasta sauce before we add the pasta into the sauce?

    • @ToniAllegra
      @ToniAllegra  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ciao !
      If you buy a ready-made sauce, you just need to warm up it.
      You don't have to cook it but you just have to keep it hot and ready to add the pasta.
      So after you have lowered the pasta into the water, put the sauce in a pan and start it over medium heat when the pasta is ready, raise the heat and pour the pasta inside. If you see that the sauce dries up don't worry it will be better because it is concentrated (maybe just help the sauce whit a little cooking pasta water) but be careful not to burn it!

    It's wishful thinking, but it would be nice if it was that easy to just get all the available kinds of sauce and them being good.
    In my experience the Barilla tomato sauces are good enough, but only the ones which are just tomato or some extra vegetables. Those with added cheese or meat ate not good at all. The pesto sauces are ok but not great and completely avoid any cream/mushroom store bought sauce.
    But if you just have a tomato sauce, it can very easily and quickly be made into a great dish with just some spices and easy extra ingredients

    Oh Mamma Mia! I'm so happy this was just a joke but if people wanna know how to make pasta here it goes...
    Never put oil in the boiling water, never break your pasta.
    Use salt in your boiling water, wait for your pasta to be (Al dente) then put in your pasta sauce, the tomato sauce is hopefully homemade from a Nonnas garden...if not use the (Nutti pasta sauce) or (Raos) sauce...or Cento sauce.
    Please use a jar cup to dip into the hot boiling water...to save in the side to use very small portions on to the pasta to help cook the rest of the pasta in the pasta sauce, never use sink fossit water ... you'll kill the cooking. Use the hot pasta boiling water you used for the spaghetti pasta. Have a jar with that pasta water in it.
    Then have some fresh basil and break them with your hands to put into the pasta, and a little bit of salt, then turn off your stove fire after cooking Then put tiny bit of peperoncino aka red pepper flakes....then some extra virgin olive oil.
    Then put Pecorino cheese or Parmigiano Reggiano cheese.
    My heart hurt when she put oil in the boiling water and she broke the pasta...my can feel my Nonna from the afterlife cry.... blasphemy.
    And have fresh Basil and use Parmigiano Reggiano OR Pecorino cheese...fresh.
    I am an Italian/Mexican from Sicily...I panic when I see some AMERICANS desecrate Pasta.
    But watching this video through I realized this lady was joking and And My nerves calmed down...my eyes popped out when she broke the pastA and she but oil in the water😂😂😂

      @@TheMathias95 no I know you don't magically get more spaghetti.
      Basically think of it this way.
      One pack of spaghetti could share for 2 people, when you break it even thou the pasta string is shorter you double the serving to 4. That's what mean. Just like how you share something between to people you break it or share it. The serving becomes but it now can share betweeore people 🙂
