My dad was working on my car once and the jack slipped. Thankfully, we were stupid and had the car laid across the drainage ditch instead of on the driveway, so the engine pinned him but didn't crush him. Got the car up, got him out, while mom called 911. The response was not what we expected. We figured the fire station nearby would send a fire rescue and an ambulance. Instead, we got two deputies, two fire trucks, a fire rescue, an ambulance, a Fire Department supervisor, a city cop who was on his way home and heard the call, and a chopper. Neighbors thought there was some kind of raid or something going on. Dad was ok. They don't play around when it comes to this kind of injury.
One of the other emt youtubers did a skit where hes training a new guy, and as theyre approaching the house hes like "never again, you drive like a maniac. Youre only going to drive in the really bad situations" then he looks inside the house before tossing the newbie the keys 😂
He did a follow up on this guy. He said the friend was a big burly lookin like he should be on NFL Defense Jared Allen looking dude had lifted the car off his bare handed.
A friend of mine died this way back when we were 21. He only used the jack to hold his car up while working underneath it... The jack gave out and the car fell on him. He was by himself, so there wasn't anyone there to help him or anything and he was later discovered deceased. NEVER EVER RELY ON THE JACK TO HOLD YOUR CAR UP! ALWAYS use those stands and make sure the car is in place and they are what's supporting the car. You should be able to remove the jack and your car still be elevated on the stands with no problem. A lesson I am SO thankful my father taught me when I was learning to drive, he couldn't stress it enough. Wish my friend had been taught the same and not died before he had a chance to live a full life.
i honestly forget they're real sometimes because they're so entertaining. . . then i remember they really happened and i feel super bad for the patients
I doubt the guy lifted it. He said the guy was smushed for 1/2 second. The car probably just dipped really low and bounced back up due to the suspension
Prime example of why you share EVERYTHING about what happened to the first responders. He would probably have been in the hospital within minutes after the call
You know what they do instead. They'll wait till we get to the Hospital and tell the nurse 8 other symptoms 😂 contradict everything we say while the nurse gives us dirty looks😭

He made a video describing the follow up to some of these events and he said the friend was 6’8” 300lbs and lifted the car up to drag is friend out. Not just calm, but a complete hero and Chad
PSA. A Jack alone is not meant to suspend the car in air. You need to use a jack stand. The jack is merely only supposed to lift the vehicle not support the weight for prolonged amount of time. A jack stand is literally just $40
Also? Chock or block the wheels. The parking brake does nothing for the front wheels, and even an operable parking brake or leaving the car in gear can fail to stop the wheels from rolling enough to slip off the jack. - If you are in a situation where you don't have block and jack stands, then nothing of your body goes under the car. Nothing.
Check the reviews on the jack stands. Also look for any recalls. My friend just lost her son because the jack stands failed, slipped and pinned/crushed him. They looked into the jack stands and I guess they are either on recall or like a watch list. These were prettt much brand new from the store. He bought then only a few months before and didn't know there was a possible issue with them. He only used them a few times. It's too late for her son, but maybe someone else will see this and be saved.
They can slip or fail. Best to use a proper one but also brick up or something else just in case. Better to have it drop on something and give you enough space to not get crushed. I know someone who was literally a mechanic, using the proper jack. He knew what he was doing but the one time he didn't use back up for what should have been a quick fix the jack failed and they ended up recalling it. But he didn't make it. The recall may save others but his family lost him over it.
@@queenzoltra2145 yeah its sad people want to save a couple of seconds with potentially deadly outcome. In always use the jack stand in combination with a jack for an extra point of failure
Firefighter paramedic, not EMT. EMT lowest level of personal allowed on ambulance after emergency responder I think, which is like just basic CPR stuff and than EMT covers a whole ton more in trauma, CPR, and taking vitals while also ensuring airway, breathing, and circulation is present. Next is AEMT which I don't ever see in Chicago and don't see any schools really teaching it, maybe the job is disappearing, and than paramedic the final and most trained job on an ambulance. Although supposedly there is like a new paramedic type supervisor or someone with a little more training but I haven't really learned about and only vaguely heard of. This guy is a firefighter paramedic which I can share more insight on what I heard about the job if your interested.
@@harveysanchez6993 The titles only recently changed. Calling a medic an EMT is ok for the general public, because medics used to be EMT-P. EMR is not on an ambulance, those are many firefighters and LEOs. EMT isn't the lowest level person on an ambulance, as you could have solely CPR certified people on board under the supervision of, at minimum, an EMT. AHA CPR isn't expanded upon in EMS. We do high-performance CPR under AHA guidelines. Mostly an EMT is about determining initial acuity and acting accordingly. We also treat traumatic injuries for transport to the hospital. ABCs are only moderately expanded on with airway adjuncts, bleeding control, and breathing assistance. AEMT isn't going away. There are still EMT-I, intermediate, (basically paramedics minus a couple of pediatric skills). A medic supervisor is a normal position within the EMS system. They are a medic in a supervisory role who may carry blood or other specialized items. They are called to codes and major incidents (fire and traffic). They are just medics, not an entirely different certification in EMS. The four certification levels from NREMT are NREMR, NREMT, NRAEMT, and NRP.
@@harveysanchez6993 I'm pretty sure firefighters have to be EMT certified too, so if they get on the scene before the ambulance they can go ahead and start assessing the situation.

PSA. A Jack alone is not meant to suspend the car in air. You need to use a jack stand. The jack is merely only supposed to lift the vehicle not support the weight for prolonged amount of time. A jack stand is literally just $40
A jack stand is some of the best money you'll ever spend.
Also? Chock or block the wheels.
The parking brake does nothing for the front wheels, and even an operable parking brake or leaving the car in gear can fail to stop the wheels from rolling enough to slip off the jack.
-
If you are in a situation where you don't have block and jack stands, then nothing of your body goes under the car. Nothing.

I love how the victim only went "Oh crap" AFTER the EMT did. *That's* when you worry.
That’s a hockey player reaction!

I got one. I worked in a kitchen when I started getting a migrane and tunnel vision. I went home. Then everyone got carbon monoxide poisoning (no fatalities). Turns out a delivery truck backed up and perfectly positioned it's exhause pipe right in front of the air intake for our kitchen.
@@MrSpazbomb Glad you're ok

Yea apparently that fucking guy was 300 pounds 6 foot something and lift the car with one hand and dragged his friend with the other hand
@@xKdog201x he wass 6'8", so yeah, Gigantor would've been a fitting nickname
@@SERGEANTJACKSONAUTTP how much do cars even weigh tho? I'm thinking like 300 maybe 400 and if I remember correctly a human can lift twice there body weight
@xKdog201x
Children have been known to be able to lift vehicles when empowered with adrenaline, there was a case when we were younger where a 12 year old boy saw his father get crushed by a truck after the jack fell and he proceeded to lift the 4x4 enough to get him out.
Most vehicles are in the 1-2 ton range, so we're talking two thousand to four thousand pound vehicles.
It's amazing what we can do when push comes to shove, pun unintended.

@@greenpiersystem Jesus Christ so we can just classify fucking adrenaline as steroids
The makeup he did was spot on! He must have seen many bruises and said to himself "More bruisier" when doing the makeup😂
I love how nonchalant these friends are about horrible injuries.
You'd be surprised how calm some people can be when they don't realize how severe an injury is. Also, some people are super calm during the emergency but freak out later
