- Hello and welcome to The Everything is Black and White Podcast.
Andrew is back - but without Simon Bird for today's Wednesday show as The Mirror's North East writer is off on holiday.
Aaron Stokes has kindly stepped in to answer your questions, and there was ALOT to talk about.
Questions ranged from the future of Sean Longstaff, the form of Marc Guehi, the need for a right-winger and much more!
What’s stopping Longstaff refusing to sign a new contract and moving for free in the summer. He could make himself a big signing on bonus and huge wages. Apparently we’re paying Kelly £150k a week so he could get something like that elsewhere. He knows his playing days are going to be limited moving forward. I wouldn’t blame him considering the ridiculous abuse our fanbase has given him.
That's an excellent point, one that I (Andrew) hadn't considered.
i was thinking that, maybe if another offer comes he will think hes had enough of the stick and to try somewhere else (like gordon!)
He has to leave. He's a Sunday league player
Ah no, please don't leave Sean.
@@rossmcfarlane1219 Great player. So fast and strong
The issue with Longstaff is Howe isn't doing him any favors... He gets so much crap because we have a world class player riding the pine behind him... If we move forward and Longstaff become a closer the fans will stop the hate imo. Tonali should be starting week in and week out, barring rest or injury. Longstaff should be playing 15-20 minutes a game in the end to close out wins... IF Howe did that the hate would immediately go away and in fact you would see praise for the kid again...
Long staff is the only midfielder who scores goals..
I don’t think any of the midfield three of who we have seen on a regular basis score enough goals - the one who does, guarantees his spot.
Anyone remember when there were banners at the games saying 'we dont demand a team that wins, we demand a team that tries' - wasnt that long ago - and yet here we are with 'fans' hounding one of the hardest working players out of the club. Not a long term starter when the team progresses - but essential as a squad player. I just hope that he will sign a new contract and the crap on social media hasnt driven him away.
Really good, thoughtful chat guys.
Tripps is 100% starting on Sat. It is clear to see.
Interesting, I'm not so sure!
Yar, Livramento is average at best
i cant see joelinton getting dropped, for these cumulative reasons 1. you need a defensive presence, he offers that more than the other options. 2. dont change a winning team, at least not too much 3. he has had two very important match winning interventions (winner v southampton, pass for winner v spurs).
I think the midfield change will be longstaff will drop for tonali - theres only so long howe can justify not playing 55m asset. howe can say what he wants but the board will want to start to see that return on investment and - candidly - Tonali is clearly the better player. That said, regarding his contract, him being extended is a no brainer in terms of squad depth and retaining value as a sellable asset (plus hes home trained under UEFA rules).
I agree, I can’t see any change in the middle but Tonali in for Longstaff but I wouldn’t be surprised if it remains the same.
Burn can't head for nuts , he is 7 feet tall but is bang average with his head
He’s had a few years efforts at goal in his time! Scored some too, hasn’t he?
He's better at left back
Better than Bird , he is a fool.
He should get a meal deal from Sainsburys
We should have kept Anderson and traded Longstaff 30th June😮trouble is I’m not sure Forest wanted him and that says it all imo…£15 million is pennies in this market…we wanted £20 million for Miggy and no takers in PL😢Guehi is showing noo that he is worth no more than £40 million😂Palace can jog on…..
Longstaff's only issue is when he touches the ball.
Bit harsh 😂
Longstaff is a better people than people give him credit Bruce, knee injury sey him back
Really pleased we didn't pick the lad up from C.fxxking Palace for that money. Not worth it. Not many if any center halves r worth that. If u can get him for under 40mil.. its still a maybe. Good discussion lads. Glad to hear your talking about Bruno n Joelington both looking average. Both have made errors this season that have cost us goals. Longstaff isn't a long term option, neither is Murphy. For now though. Keep'em close. Let them go in the next few seasons when we've replaced them with stronger options. We need to earn more money outside of our 1st team rotation. Stadium revenue, merch etc. Where ever they can.
i would keep bares on the bench and bring him on to do damage when Fulham are tired
Cl you could argue that it should only be countries champions as it used to be
Gordon, Bruno, Tonali in the midfield.
i honestly think the reason some fans want the likes of longstaff released on a free (at 26, mad) is that players like him, murphy, dubravka, krafth now represent to them - perhaps subconsciously - the vestiges of the Ashley era.
Yea. Except they do it to Burn too
Perhaps you’re right! But you can’t have the best players straight away. It takes time to build a squad, and Sean Longstaff adds to that.
Dubravka is our best ever keeper
Weve got young murphy why not give him a go
Why is Bruno’s place not under discussion? He’s been poor this season.
I’d have Schar and Sandro in front of the back four and then a fluid 3 of Barnes, Gordon and Willock. Obviously AI as striker.
Tonali should be in charge of corners and free kicks.
Hi Paul, he’s not had the best of starts but even despite this, there’s no way Howe is dropping him.
@@everythingisblackandwhiteNUFC Thanks for replying. To be fair you did mention that Bruno has not been good so far, especially against Spurs. Howe was too loyal to Bruno at the start of last season when he was also poor and I agree that making him skipper has made him just about undroppable. If someone came in with a £50 million plus offer I would snap their hands off - it's significant that none of the big teams have come in for him though....
Think those who finish the game are just as important as those starting sean longstaff is less likely than barnes to win us a game ...eddies found a winning formula with Barnes on the bench Barnes hasn't been great starting for us overall amd with Tonali he's defiantly bettwr than sean but he's just played 180mins for italy after a 10month ban ..great show lads🙌
Thanks for watching, Jake. It’s certainly a team game! Great to have so many options.
Forward headers is not Burns forte
Is isak fit for weekend
Marc is really not that good lads honestly. A chunk of good games for England and Palace combined. You could argue England defended better when Marc was suspended vs Netherlands, the second best opponent they played. He was just as much to blame on Spain’s winning goal as Walker was. No comment on Sean.
Thanks for watching, Jack! So you would want Newcastle going back in, even at £40m?
30m max. He’s a spicy Maguire. I never wanted him but Howe does and it’s frustrating.
Trips can take lb so could livramento
No . Hes not good enough . Get rid
Sanussi
Play trips there
Lads you are waffling longstaff is an absolute liability to even contemplate him being needed for the future your clueless may of well not bothered with a takeover if you want players like him in your team because there two a penny miley is already levels above him
Miley and Longstaff are Championship players. We struggled big time when they were both playing last season. Both slow as snails and weak
