I love looking at estate sales, but I have to say, there is a lot of stuff that I can’t imagine would ever sell - I’m older now & it really gives me inspiration to start purging things, so that whatever is there when I pass is manageable to deal with & usable & also wouldn’t embarrass me for lots of people to be looking through !

When my late husband of 28 years died suddenly one night...I had to go through all his stuff and all the stuff he had saved from his dad and grandfather 😮...I decided then and from then on to purge my own things so my son would not have to sift through my things for days...😂 I only have now what I use and a few treasures ❤

The enamel pot is a "potty"

how do you keep other shoppers from finding your items as your looking at other stuff. You can't carry everything, you need to bring one of those old fashioned shopping carts people used to use when shopping. I used to have one 50 years ago 😂

  • @diyshiitake6733

    1. Wrens big butt will not even fit in there 😂
    2. I’m obsessed with popping my knees lol
    3. You can probably get the stains out of these blankets and things you find with Folex and even shout. I’m great at getting stains out of things. I just spray and let sit for days. And respray throughout the day. I’ve gotten so many stains out of things that way.
Probably should’ve started with this is as no.1 since it’s the only useful piece of information. But the Wren comment was too funny. TeeHee.

The small enamel pot with the finger hook handle that you picked up in what looked like the bathroom appears to be an old “slop jar” or “potty”. Small ones were used to “potty train” children before the modern “potty chairs” were made. Before toilets as we know them now, a wooden chair had a slot under the open seat. A “slop jar” or enamel pot would slide under the open seat to catch the “waste” and could be easily removed to be emptied, washed and replaced. Of course, I can be completely wrong about your purchase. But, it appears you have bought
    someone’s used toilet. Lol! 🤣

Those “Weights” as you call them are called a “Pea” for a scale such as for weighing cotton in a sack or bushels of vegetables. There is another longer piece that goes with them where the item to be weighed is hung from a hook and the “pea” is adjusted in notches which balanced gives the exact weight. Lord, what I would have given for those. A true irreplaceable antique.

Julie just word of caution be sure to smell the enameled pot that you picked up with the handle. I have made the mistake and purchased them and sometimes they smell like URINE.

*Yes, you are correct, Julie. The little silver plate brush and dustpan set for removing crumbs at the table is called a "silent butler", LOL. 😆 Did you get that FABULOUS POST for ONLY $6.00⁉️ I didn't see it in your car. Yes, that WAS a quart-sized MILK GLASS 🥛 measuring cup with the red stripe trim. On the top, it was missing the manual mixer with the lid and a handle made of metal that fit into the measuring cup to be used for whipping cream. 😉*
*I L🤎VED the brushes, chenille bedspreads, the 2-sided library desk, the secretary desk, the crockery and all of the wooden kitchen utensils, too❣️ That WOODEN HIPPO 🦛 WAS JUST TOO CUTE❣️😍 💯😘🥰*

My family does not understand my love of old crusty things. Years ago my husband and I quit our date night to go to dinner in favor of estate sales. There are usually as many as four on some weekends...we generally wait til half pricecday...some do seventy five percent off. My husband had knee
replacement so we are just now venturing out..he doesn't do basements yet. My favorite was the crumb catcher..I have several...one is handmade wood with flowers says Christmas 1930 on back. I would go back on half price day. Oh changed my mind..love the hippo. We have the same taste. I like the old rusty nails to put on my old wooden wall where I hang antique kitchen tools. We could see well..undid a good job. I wanted the rose chenille bedspread. I do the same thinh..old chair..old throw or spread, old pillow.
Thanks for taking us with u.♡♡♡♡
