The reasons weren't dumb, they were perfectly valid, it's not that bad but its not that good either, the main reason it was hated was because of how poor the story and characters were compared to the main timeline.

If I can be honest, even though I was sceptical at first, I like what Ninja Theory has done here. This Dante ain't that bad. I just love how smooth, interactive and visually impressive this version of DMC is. I can't help it. I can even say this is my favourite to date because no other DMC is like this. Punk Dante has my vote on this one.

I enjoy the original ones too, but toxic fanbase killed a good alternate universe. I saw enough of them cry about the wig pun, that capcom decided to add the original hairstyle.
No, this game is not in the cannon of the rest of the franchise. It is a reboot that was made and it is its own can of worms, quite a different approach to the story of DMC and not alot of people were a fan of it compared to the other games
This game probably would have been better received had it not been called Devil May Cry. Maybe if it had been sold as a spin off with new characters. This just wasn’t Dante and Vergil, the world wasn’t DMC and the story was sort of boring (but not irredeemable). Thank goodness for Devil May Cry 5. ❤

The combat was a bit strange but it was fixed in the Definitive Edition
