I spent an hour or 2 this morning...and finally got the script working...
One bizarre "feature" is that the script doesn't work if the info field is blank... that caused me a load of problems

One way around this if you dont want anything in the info field is just to type a space into that field. The LT then does become active and shows the blue box.
@@insanelee13 I did try that. Didn't work for me. But I did have to also try some other tricks and the upgrade to V1.6 to get this working 100%

The Padlock on the Memory Timer options is to lock the active time. This means the time to remain active is unlimited so it stays on till you toggle it off.

Thank you, Scott. Another great, informative video from you. It's nice to see that we can actually have 40 lower 3rds, instead of just 4. On a side note, you normally must fill both lines for the lower 3rd to work. A trick I found to have just a single line lower 3rd is to just put an empty space in one of the lines. ;)

Hey Scott! Thanks again for the second video on lower thirds. So what I find is that when you switch to a different scene in OBS and the lower thirds isnt turned off and you go back to the scene where you do have your lower thirds scene, it will activate it back up again and display it in the scene. So I always switch the lower thirds off once that lower third is used. That’s why I think they put that toggle button on there.

I love the toggle to turn the switch off after a memoryslot is displayed! We have a podcast with guests, and I want to toggle the memoryslots when I want to (for example at the introduction of hosts and guests), and not based on a timer. And when I first started using this plugin, the loaded memoryslot suddenly appeared again when the timer ran out. That was kinda annoying when the wrong person was on cam. I solved this by using a multiswitch with hotkeys and delays on a streamdeck with the previous version. But now I only have to set the hotkey for the memoryslot. Love this feature! :)
I would love to see a video demonstrating this.... It's hard for me to visualize how it functions. It sounds incredible.
I use the memory slots for players names in Rugby Teams. I can switch between them as and when a player scores a try. Very nice. I played around with it for a bit and finaly got there in the end.

Thank you for this tutorial, I stopped using this lower thirds due to this confusion when it caused me problem in the time I was streaming. The whole program ran without lower third and I didn't have a backup. Got to have a second look on this animated lower-third.

That toggle to turn it off is great. Sometimes you just want to show it one time for a surten amount of time and after that, you want it to stay away.
That lock in that one I didn't try. The lock in the top one, keeps your lower 3rd visible all the time. It keeps it constantly there.
That you could ad many and let them cycle is new for me. Thanks for the info.
Only thing I now want to know is if it is possible to edit them, so you can make your own design and get more options than 3 versions.
My answer is probably because the entire thing is powered by CSS. We must reach out to the developer and ask him if this kind of capability is on the horizon.

I was thinking it's: you choose slot and edit it's text. But it really works reverse: you add text then choose (click) slot.

12:00 The "Oneshot" toggle is ideal for if you have multiple people that you want to show their name during a show/service, but you want to trigger them separately without it playing through all of the names at once. This would work really well with macros while using an Elgato Stream Deck.

EDIT: As to why I would need that, I am using it during a church livestream to put up the song title and CCLI number. Only needs to come up once at the beginning of the song. Before I had to set a REALLY long inactive time to make up sure it didn’t come back up. This should work much better.

On this tool, what I'd like to do is link the lower third transition to a change in scene, e.g. Joe is on a camera feed in Scene 1 and Donald is in a camera feed in Scene 2 so I'd like the first lower third to display on Scene Joe becoming active and the second to display when Scene Donald becomes active etc.
I wondered if you or anyone in the comments had found a way to do this with this Lower Thirds tool?
You might be able to time it with the Advanced Scene Switcher. Download that plugin and experiment with it. It's a must have plugin.

The lock icon keeps that Lower Third (1/2/3/4) up until you hit a key to turn it off. It overrides *everything*. That Lower Third doesn't go away until you click it away.
It doesn't really look as good, but if you want, you can click on any of the saved slots while that Lower Third # is displayed and it will immediately change to that new slot. It won't cycle them. I guess that's useful to someone (but doesn't look as "snazzy" as just letting the animation run)

Hi Scott, just a quick note on the padlock for the individual transition times. I've found that the padlock overrides the transition to the next memory slot and keeps the current LT that's active up on screen until the padlock is turned off.

Got some featured videos of your's recently pop up for me and I am totally digging the work you put into these tutorials! This is the first one I wanted to try out and just testing with a TH-cam Channel Lower Third. I have the Main Settings activated, my logo is in place as logo_1.png (put the TH-cam Logo over the "Your LOGO Here", transparent background, etc.), but then I enable the Lower Third 1 via the switch, it just goes to Red Box and stays there. Any ideas?

Scott, your series on OBS is great. I'm a newbee and you've made it understandable. Thanks. I have an issue with LT. I can't make any of the LTs active (blue frame.) They remain red-framed when switched on. I've gone through this video and nothing helps. I have never been able to activate any LT even with the Main switched on. No no.. I was at my brothers house. I just got back. All is well. No the software I use to make my videos is called Camtasia. This is the PC's version of ScreenFlow. It's not cheap BUT it's worth it because unlike most non linear editors this one is very visual based. There's limited amounts of switches and sliders. It's simplistic. Thanks for making this follow up, I too was scratching my head over some of the options in the dock. Question: do you know of a setting (or a plugin) that would make it so it cycles through all the lower thirds for a slot, then wait for say, 10 minutes before it repeats? I have my social accounts in the lower third but don't want them just continuously cycling :)
Hmmmm... Cylce through all memory slots and when it gets to the end of the last slot it waits for 10 minutes and recycles. I'm thinking this tool won't pull that off. Actually the way I would approach the solution is with a 10 minute video with green screen. I would set the video to loop and that would do it.

You can use any dimension and png that you like. That's how I use it and it works perfectly. Also you can remove memory slots by holding it for a few seconds. It begins to blink and if you let go of the mouse click it will be removed.

Hi Scott thanks for your great tutorials, I have install the lower third plug in for obs, I followed all your instruction and boom it worked, my question, when i exit obs ie shut my computer down, on turn it back on and relaunching obs,how do I get to the lower menu,or should I say settings, I a bit confused I was presuming,once I relaunch obs, the lower third menu box would appear, can you help?
The thing you're talking about is probably the "control pannel", which is a dock.
Therefore if you don't "place" it (lock it), it will not appear once you restart your OBS (don't even need to restart your CPU)

The trigger or lightning bolt is auto turn off. Some how you can trigger each of the lower thirds when one goes off the other will come on and so on. I think to make this work each lower third must be active with their own memory slots.

This is great! Now we can simply use the lower thirds option to animate texts instead of making animated texts in After effects. My only question is, How to post a lengthy text/phrase? Because I tried it earlier, and it only shows the first line. I tried posting a scripture and instead of creating more lines downward, It just became one long line stretching out of the frame.
What's up Duds. That's a damn good question. I imagine that the CSS that controls the look and feel would need to be modified so that the text does not get cut off. I'll have to look into it.

Thanks for the LT plug in videos. Trying to learn how to use this now. The one question I have is, do you have to use a logo? I'm using this with my church & want to flash the Pastor's message on the screen.
Hey Eric, no but you must make a change to one of the parameters. Open up one of the lower third boxes (click plus sign in upper right) look for the paint brush icon. Switch this from "1" to "2". Heads up if you want to add a logo down the road, switch it back to 1 and then CLICK the picture icon.

Hi scott iD like to confirm and check it out your self when you click the white X to delete those memory slot once it shows there gone the. Click the box they are still there .
I apologize if this has already been shared but I'm using OBS RC2 27.0.0 on my M1 Mac mini and when using the custom time settings and set the active state to "Lock" , this will lock all memory slots in the active state. If you have the "Lock" enabled and the switch was off, once you enable the switch the first animation will play through and then lock into the active state and any other memory slot will be locked in the active state as well if you click on them.
I hope that helps if no one else has mentioned it yet.

Great channel Scott! I share you're frustration with this plug in & spent hours trying to get it to work as I want. Any thoughts on this issue...you've two scenes 1) Image/text/countdown: "stream starting soon" 2) Cam/Lower Thirds with the 1 shot toggle turned on (so the L/T only appears once). By the time you switch from scene 1 to scene 2 the Lower Thirds has already activated and the toggle has turned itself off because the Lower Thirds timer starts as soon as you turn the toggle on and not as you move to scene 2.
Carl, I dunno man I'd lean towards making custom animated lower thirds instead.

ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION SCOTT P - WHY THE MERORY SLOT IS NOT DELETING AS YOU EXPECT WHEN YOU CLICK AND IT FLASHES
Nice Video Scott. Mu understanding is that the reason why the memory slot does not delete when you click and hold on it for a few seconds and it flashes is because that is how you save to the memory slot and not delete. Once you have adjusted all your settings as you desire and you click on any memory slot and hold it for a few seconds, It will flash whilst holding on to the click, after you release it, you then need to click on the same slot again before it register the save in that slot.
In summary, clicking on a memory slot and holding down till it flashes is for saving into that memory slot - not for deleting the content.

Scott Thanks for the video. This video was very helpful. In fact I have one doubt regarding this. I am not able to edit the memory slot. Edit in the sense that if one slot is just having my first name if I need to add my surname to the first same it's not happening. How can this be rectified
Yes, deleting slots is a real PITA with this software. What I do make a new one with the correct info and then delete the bad one and drag the good one over. Try that and see if it works for you.
Hi Scott, Thanks for wonderful Videos. CAN YOU tell me how to activate a lower third on a particular time. I mean lets say I want to see it 1 min after I start recording.
There's no way to tell the tool to show the lower third at a specific time. You can activate it with a hotkey thought. You can also start it with a count down.

I would love to be able to activate automatically a different lower third on each source. I am setting up intro for Interview segments / music performance etc. And I would like to avoid using hotkeys to start them manually. Let's say Lower third 1 on for interviews and lower third 2 for music performance.
Tobby, your best bet is to create lower third animated videos with transparent background with a transparent background. A video with a transparent background is referred to as a "Alpha Channel" Davinci Resolve can do it and the software is 100% free.

The toggle to turn off the LT is like the "repeat all" vs "repeat 1" setting on a media player. If you turn on the toggle it will only play through the list of memory slots once. If it is off it will continue to cycle through the memory slots... maybe!

I use your content for live-streaming my church service. I am looking for a way to display Bible verses without preparing them beforehand. At times speaker references some verse for which there's no slide created with a green background. Is there a plugin that can do this?
Hi Oliver. Let's think of it from the perspective of what would actually happen. What I think would be best is if you had some kind of a database that would allow you to quickly reference the verse. So the speaker mentions it and you execute a search and show it via OBS. The only other way would be for you to type it in to OBS. What are your thoughts?
@@ScottFichter I agree a database might be handy. I would be delighted if a developer builds a plugin that can do this.
One thing I am interested in is the automated population of the text field from a source file, so rather than typing in the values I could automate changes to files and have them loaded into the memory slots...what do you think?

You can use hotkeys for this. I use a streamdeck to switch on and choose the slot I want, but you can use it with just hotkeys as well. And it's more easy not that you have toggles to auto-switch on/off when you load the slot :)
To be clear Vegard. You can control visibility for every memory slot with a hotkey? That I was not aware of.
@@ScottFichter Yes you can :) Not sure I would be using this if it wasn't for the hotkeys. Load the Lua-script provided in the lower thirds folder, and you can set hotkeys for the 4 switches, and all 40 memoryslots :)

Are you referring to the lightning bolt icon "Autotrigger"? Um...yes if Autotrigger is on and you click any one of the memory slots the one you click will be shown. The problem arises if you have many. There's no preview. It really makes Autotrigger fairly useless in my book.
The reason why you have the automatic off when pass the 2 second is because when you change the scene and you return back to the scene and you have multiple deck open for example one with your name other with TH-cam info and another with subscribe to Facebook what happened is all decks will be open at the same time and you don’t want that. You want your little toggle switch one at the time.

Hello Håkan thanks for commenting. I did not intend for you to assume that a lower third should be two seconds. I only instructed the program to do this so you did not have to wait. Ha! I could have set the times for say five seconds but that would bore you to death. Best wishes.
I'm not too happy with the memory slots because I cannot customise the LTs. I don't want the same settings to be applied to each memory slots. If that can be fixed by the developer and then in my opinion we have one of the fantastic LTs out, notwithstanding, it is still the best so far.

Is there a way to get the lower thirds to open up from the center? Each lower thirds entry I have is a different length and I would like them to open up centered on screen instead of opening from the left.

@@ScottFichter I have a series of 7 that cycle through. I only use 1 of the 4 "sets." I am hoping to get those 7 to open up from the center point as they cycle through.

Hey Tormy, well... I've tried to recreate the issue on my end and I can't. The only suggestion I have is to #1 click the plus sign for main settings #2 Click "Show More" #3 Click system #4 Click export #5 save this data to a text file. When you open OBS go back in there and click "Import" find the text file ---> BOOM that should get back to all the original settings.

Each rume I open it I have to resize the mixer, the scene/sources etc.
Then I exit OBS and when I restart it, I have to repeat all the operations.
@@ScottFichter hi Scott, I did try but it was unsecessful. After a pianstakingbresearsh, I've found that the plugin dedicated to rtmp multistream, was causing the mess. I de-activated it informing the programmer. He was convinced the issue was solved with a recent release, but it its'nt. So for the moment, I will not use that plugin.

The lock icon will lock the lower thirds when it comes on screen ONLY if there are no numbers in the field.

I see that when you record your camera is not part of OBS. It looks like it is flowing. Are you using two cameras? If so how do I set up my camera so I can record the OBS screen and have my camera off to the side but still be on the screen?
