    The end of this show is so good. Not everything has to end as loud as possible, and the stillness and calmness at the end is amazing.

    We live in a world where a show like that can be 5th. That's not a jab at the judges, it's a compliment to DCI in general.

    They say a picture is worth a thousand words.
    But the moment at 3:40 needs no words to those who truly understand drum corps, whether as a member, staff, volunteer, or simply just a fan.

    At 1:55 onwards, them bringing the two lines together symbolizes mending the gap between the two factions of survivors. When I first noticed this, I lost my mind. Now, every time I see it, I tear up a little

    Best show of the 2018 season. I don’t know what it was about this show but it hit so many emotional buttons for me. I know the pats and Sox won, but I think it’d be amazing to see these guys earn the trophy in the next few seasons

      @uvn6210 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Moserboy12 ironically, their hornline and their percussion is actually their “weakness” I say that loosely because honestly all of the top ten corps sound amazing, but they have 6th place brass and percussion in 2019 I believe. It’s honestly just small things that are getting their score down a little bit, because the top 4 corps any given year are REALLY good, so if them want to Build A Champion (BAC haha), then then need to overcome the things that are keeping them from the top 5 musically. I think they can do it, because just considering how much they’ve jumped in just the past 3 years, their color guard, general effect, and mostly visual are all there, they just need to have to brass and percussion to execute it, and then the ingredients will be there for a medaling, and eventually championship show

    Why are almost all these videos the ballads? Don't get me wrong they are all amazing but I want to see the battery play

    • @chen-youwu1118
      @chen-youwu1118 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      AmazingCheetos these videos mainly showcase the horn line because that’s the “main event” of DCI. if you want to watch mainly the battery or guard WGI is the thing. But also because these parts are what people usually seem the “cooler” parts. Also there’s a bunch of well made videos by Vic Firth or a bunch of lot videos that showcase the percussion and not so many of the hornline

    • @DouglasStevens0521
      @DouglasStevens0521 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@chen-youwu1118 I agree with you there. Far more people want to see the horn line as apposed to guard or drumline due to the fact that a huge percentage of every corps is brass members. I just wish they would show something where all sections play rather than the ballad where it's mainly horn line focused. For example the Cavaliers video where it was a good blend of all the sections as opposed to the Blue Coats video where it's almost entirely horn line for the whole video. Either way I still greatly enjoyed all of these videos. That's just my two cents on the matter

    • @chen-youwu1118
      @chen-youwu1118 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No I completely understand and agree with you. But it’s also harder for people who don’t really understand the nuance and ability of guard and percussion unless you march those sections or know them well, but it’s easier for people to feel the emotional impact of hornline blasts. But yeah, a balance would be much more fair

    • @DouglasStevens0521
      @DouglasStevens0521 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@chen-youwu1118 Definitely. For example the crown brass impact in the closer. Probably my favorite part from any show this year and I'm in the battery. There's something special about the power that drum corps brass can produce

      Considering all the critiques you’ve put on other shows’ design, even ones that are somewhat controversial like bloo 14 due to their fan favorite status, I’ll take this statement as ‘Not bad BAC.’

    • @jesuspectre9883
      @jesuspectre9883 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@uvn6210 For professional directors, producers, and designers, the biggest concern over SOS was that it tried to do too much. In previous shows, Boston managed to fit in an entire musical around a Crucible-like setting, and did it successfully. Part of what made Wicked Games so convincing was that the premise seemed just fictional enough to be believed, but still tipping toward the side of fantasy. Our willing suspension of disbelief was there for the taking.
      But this catastrophe on an island premise seemed too real, too horrifying, too lifelike and too grim to elevate it to the realm of fantasy. The parallel to The Lord of the Flies had a completely different flavor than say, the contrived Survivor reality shows which are frivolous and of questionable depth. Which style were they going for? Stark reality, or heightened fantasy? This show's era was unexplained, the lack of technology was unexplained, the lack of satellite surveillance imagery to save them was unexplained. Our willing suspension of disbelief was pushed to the limit.
      Second, professional directors, producers and designers question SOS's ending. The addition of the spiritual song Amazing Grace is oddly chosen here, mostly because of a casual reference in the lyrics to "once was lost and now am found.' Lyrics can't be the sole reason you select a piece of music. The spiritual itself brought an element of religion to the ending, confusing the theme of the show. Amazing Grace is typically associated with hallowed classic negro spirituals and Alcoholics Ananoymous these days. Neither association fits. What about these castaways leads them to a newfound self-discovery where they're blind but now they see? We can't tell. By the end, we're not sure who the enemy is, or what these castaways were fighting against. There was no clear dramatic action, and the ending is indiscernible-- is it some reference to suicide (perfect for a youth activity) or a rescue? By the end, we didn't care. They had formed no bonds, developed no inner battle, had become no closer to one another, and neither had we.
