@@MrFredstt As someone who has legally gone insane as a result of chess (stayed up 72 hours without food, sleep, or even as much as couple-minute breaks just playing chess; this happens every time I lose lots of rating and have to regain it), I agree. Be careful out there, lads. Sanity is a very narrow path to tread on in chess.
Honestly I want to echo the sentiment of “we want more 10 minute!” but as a fellow 1500 Andy I know exactly that feeling when you get addicted to Blitz and 10 minute doesn’t feel appealing anymore. TH-cam frogs, we just gotta be patient until he plays so much Blitz that his brain begins to melt and the slower pace of 10 min becomes interesting again.
for me, 10 minutes is intimidating because if i lose in 10mins it's probably because of bad moves i made but in blitz you can always blame the time pressure so it matters less when you lose. So even though i find 10mins more rewarding, i rarely get over that first hurdle of actually starting a game.
I'm glad you take the positive comments to heart, the chess videos are some of my favorite content. I'm not a chess player myself, but the in-the-moment analysis of both good and bad moves tickles my brain like one of those head massagers.
Love the content from your more cerebral activities (chess, geoguessr, sporcle, crosswords) and the banter from the more flow state games (fall guys, SAP, cult of the lamb, etc) your variety is superb!
I recently stopped doing chess because I was getting too tilted and competitive, so watching your casual chess content is so refreshing! love the video as always
Any game I start getting like that, I do my best to make myself see it as practice. If I'm not doing well, I'm likely too tired to play well right now, making dumb mistakes, or playing someone much better (or at least better off situationally) than me. So I try my best, and take losses as an opportunity to learn. It doesn't always work (and I don't always get the tools I need to properly study my losses when the game isn't, say, chess or Clash Royale), but it's significantly cut down on the length of the breaks I need to take. Ultimately, my life has not yet depended on how well I do at games, so if I'm caring too much about losing then I'm looking at it wrong and need to find a better way to look at it.
I get that with other things that I do naturally without thinking much, m=but as soon as someone asks something about it, I instantly unlearn everything
I think he just can’t react or gets frustrated when his opponents don’t play perfectly into his opening, like if they do an obscure gambit he just continues with the first 10 moves of the London system and then struggles in the mid-game because his opponent has countered it without him reacting
@@bakanur i mean almost no one below 2000 knows the deep plans in every line they play, but that’s usually when you try to come up with a plan by using a bit of time, but you don’t play the same moves against everything unless you are playing a specific system
Everyone at work thinks I'm a big brained chess player since I watch these chess videos during break, but really I'm here for watching cracked egg megamind content and pogged plays
Hey NL! Up until today, I wasn't certain if you took time to read TH-cam comments or not. I don't know if you'll see mine specifically, but I want to say thank you for always posting such great & hilarious content. My mom had ALS & passed away 4 weeks ago. Your uploads have really been helping me get through the rough times. My favourite videos to watch currently are Chess, PlateUp, Fall Guys, & Sporcle! I haven't been watching you very long (maybe about a year or so), but you've become my #1 favourite content creator to watch. So thank you again for the great content, & I hope you're doing well! :)
as a fellow chess enjoyer, the chess content is much needed brother. and I love the casual outlook. I do think 10 minute would be more fun to listen to more banter + more thinking, as well as I miss the analysis portions. Even if it's just looking at like one missed move, doesn't have to be a big ordeal. Much love brother
Been loving the chess videos NL favorite chess content on TH-cam right now. Glad it seems like they'll stick around for a bit at least, I was worried when you were talking about how poorly they do metric wise.
I really like that you put the date in the thumbnails for these videos. If you have the time/effort, it'd be awesome to see the stream date on the thumbnail of all your uploads (maybe with a twitch logo so it's obvious if it's a vod or not). That way when I watch a vod I can see the recording date and adjust my mental going in That aside, the chess content is definitely pogged. Your commentary the last couple videos has been super enjoyable, and you're still the god of banter after all these years. Thanks for the consistent quality, whether it's in the form of a twitch vod or dedicated youtube content. NL just doesn't miss
@Cry Yeah I know the recent chess videos aren’t from streams; I didn’t mean to suggest that I thought they were. Maybe bad wording on my part haha. I just think it’d be dope to have the dates in the thumbnail more generally
Every time I put on one of your chess vods to sleep to, I end up stayin up watching the entirety of it. Could you stop being so engaging? It’s cutting into my sleep schedule
Watching you play makes me really interested in chess. Especially when you use terms like "fianchetto" and "zugzwang" I always love learning new words from you :)
Hey NL, I know you dislike the idea of learning a bit of opening theory, but learning opening theory is not about getting better. If you learn even one new opening, it makes the game a lot more varied which means you are much less likely to burn out with the added benefit that the variety also increased enjoyability of the game. Personally, I recommend learning the Dutch Gambit. It is a really easy opening to learn, but it is also really damn spicy. Not to mention if your opponent responds to d4 with f6 you get a free rook 9/10 times they do it.
All of NL's content is goated. Sharpest wit on YT. Genuinely seems like a good person. Only gaming channel I really watch all the content for these days. A gamers gamer (an actually gamer not someone who became one to have an online career, these guys are easy to spot if you've been around the block(not gatekeeping)). Someone should actually dump a truck full of money in his bank account to get him write sketch commedy.

Totally understand the urge to not play! It's tough trying improve everyday, a stumbling block can feel demoralizing, but It's awesome to see you fight the good fight and keep playing!
I love the energy level in this. But, is there any chance we could get a vid of a few 5 min chess games? I’d love to hear more thoughts about the moves.
It can be easy to forget he looks at these comments since he so rarely responds, but he is putting out several videos each day after all. Thanks for the great entertainment as always. I love all almost all your content, but Chess is special.
love the chess content, and it seems like youre enjoying it as well. we are around the same elo so i really enjoy seeing what my games would look like to an outside viewer. pretty hilarious. cheers
NL win loss blunder or brilliant you are everything I want in a chess content creator when you're having fun. I have more fun in my games post video just by quoting you to myself and playing chess for what it is a game.
NL, do some Chess tactics streams. They will greatly improve your playing and they are fun little puzzles to solve and enjoyable to watch. You could do one once a week.
At least for me, the second I stop caring about winning is when I start getting better because I'm no longer tilting and just enjoying myself, so I play more.
Also I envy your ability to play blitz (less than 30m and I’m sweating the clock) and think you should stick to the time control you enjoy most (bullet kinda out there to be fair tho)
chess is definitely S tier content, would like to see some more 10 min though.
Hey NL, love your chess videos, hope your enjoying them as much as we are. Love the content brother. Cheers!
