    I have owned 2 tandems and 1 solo thorn bikes all excellent machines sturdy ,reliable, and not at all overly heavy or cumbersome . Give me a steel frame any day they flex and if your unlucky to damage
    Steel usually can be fixed or welded . The Rohloff hub gears basically fit and forget. One point I must
    Mention the eccentric bottom bracket needs to be taken out from the main frame and cleaned smearing some grease inside the frame as water can find its way in causing corrosion other than that
    Cracking bikes

    If everyone commuted and toured on a bike and the roads were more bike-friendly I think it would be a much better world

    Very good video. Often these videos are terrible but I really liked this one. I have a Thorn Sherpa which looks very similar but without the Rohloff hub. It's a very comfortable and stable bike. I cycled through Denmark last year and it was perfect. Enjoy your next trip.

    Eduardo , nice video nice information . However your written description says you have a "Schmidt Edelux LED Headlamp" However that is a "Lumotec LYT" . Viewers tune in for expert information and the one in the Video and the one in the description are different . My apologies for picking on you . Ride on ! :)

    Does Thorn make frames in CHROMELI STEEL? (lighter than regular steel) How much does the bike WEIGH without any load (naked)?

    I would be terrified touring with this bike as I would be paranoid with someone stealing it. there are cheap and excellent quality aluminium bikes out there, that are just as reliable and as stiff as any top dollar touring bike. touring to me is about freedom and minimal worries. having to care for somethings this expensive would take away from the whole experience surely. but this is great bike nevertheless. if not salted the frame will last for a century. cheers

    • @brucewmclaughlin9072
      @brucewmclaughlin9072 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thieves sometimes do not care what they steal as they will sell it for 5 bucks and go find another. There is no such thing as security on any bike or for that matter your panniers that you leave outside the store you buy food from. Aluminum is somewhat stiff and does not absorb the vibration as well as Steel or Cromoly.

      Good point. I think if I had spent 3k on a touring bike I would struggle to relax on my first trip at least , I’d be living on the thing like Attila the Hun 😆

    Very helpful Eduardo, thanks.
    I´m doing some research about my upcoming long-distance bike trip, and something I cannot wrap my head around is how incredibly uncomfortable these bikes seem. I have a moderately light, full suspension mountain bike which is pleasure to ride with, but with this kind of bikes I see nothing but a heavy tank built to last, and that´s about it. I honestly don´t know if I should purchase something like this when I already have a "much better", non-touring bike, which I don´t really know if it would "break" carrying all that weight. Your thoughts?

    • @lindenmeyer11
      @lindenmeyer11  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, i once read that this bike was much more comfortable loaded then without any weight. I could not believe that. but it's a fact! It is VERY comfortable, such a great joy to ride it for long distances, long periods also. And i must tell you it can handle all sorts of terrain! As i said in the video, it holds like a tank! When i see some footages of the paths i took with it, i can not believe it didn't even had a broken spoke os twisted rim. It is the LR Defender of the Bikes! Great piece of engineering..! Highly recommended bicycle!! Of course, they are designed to carry 30+ KGs, for long distances, and long periods. If you are doing small trips, like a week long, you probably don't need something like this...

      Eduardo Lindenmeyer
      I appreciate your feedback, Eduardo. I´ve done some research since my question, and they certainly have a good reputation out there. Let´s just say their looks are deceiving, to say the least... ;)
      Cheers

    Hi, what is the weight of your bike ?

    • @lindenmeyer11
      @lindenmeyer11  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thierry Kokel i‘m not sure, but i think it‘s around 18kg, although I don’t think that is very important considering the total amount of luggage when you travel.

    Great bike, but... thief magnet. The first thing I would do, is use a hairdryer and peel
    off the 'Thorn Nomad' stickers. Forget status. Bike thieves are sophisticated and know what a Rohloff equiped Thorn is, no point advertising it. I'd be always worrying about somebody stealing it, which would stress out the whole tour.

    • @ourclarioncall
      @ourclarioncall 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, bike thieves will soon if they haven’t already learn about expensive steel touting bikes. Make it look like some old piece of scrap an old grandad rides that’s not worth 100 quid. I like the logos but it would be cool to take them off for an all black look.

    Thorn cycles actually had some great products in the 90s, but this Nomad is just a commuter not something to but your ass on for long tours unless you are a masochist.

      @@ourclarioncall No suspension, flimsy bolt one racks, no center stand, wrong seat, wrong bars... of course all these are my personal opinions. What one person thinks is a sturdy rack another (me) thinks would come apart quickly with more than minimal use. It does have a Speedhub and a dynamo-hub... that's good. I have a very biased opinion about "Touring" bikes since I own probably the best touring bike set up on the planet. I'm sure someone could ride this bike around the planet, but then they could also walk around the planet... I wanted more. - photos.app.goo.gl/ADgC6oyPM2gyrCq27

      @@brianbassett4379 cool bike, yeah, does look super comfy with the suspension.
      Is that like a rack that part of the back suspension ? I like the design did you come up with it ?
      Is that a motor or something next to the bottom bracket area?

    • @brianbassett4379

      @@ourclarioncall The bike frame is a Tout Terrain Panamericana, yes the rack is integrated into the frame... designed for touring and carrying panniers. The front rack is a FAIV Hoogar suspended rack. Everything you see is purchased off the shelf with a few modifications. The motor is a BaFang BBSHD mid-drive and can be mounted on almost any bike. It's both comfortable because of the suspension but also very stable on rough surfaces. Aberdeen as in WA?
