Nestled in the heart of Wiltshire, this magnificent residence boasts a rich tapestry woven over centuries. The story begins in the 16th century, when the Hall family, prominent wool merchants, first laid the foundations. Over generations, The Hall witnessed the evolution of the Hall's fortunes, their influence on the town, and the changing architectural styles that shaped England's landscape.
The next remarkable family to stamp its mark on the property were the Moulton Family. Not only did they shape Bradford on Avon, but two family members shaped the world!
Stephen Moulton introduced vulcanised rubber to Britain, a revolutionary invention by Charles Goodyear. He played a key role in establishing the UK rubber industry.
Alex Moulton's engineering expertise played a crucial role in the automotive industry. He developed the rubber suspension system used in the iconic Mini car launched in 1959. This clever design allowed the Mini's small size to coexist with excellent handling and a comfortable ride.
He was equally famous for creating the revolutionary small-wheeled Moulton bicycle in the 1960s the biggest redesign of the bicycle for over 60 years! He was the final owner of the mansion.
For this special video, we were honoured to be invited by the Alex Moulton Charitable Trust, the custodians of The Hall to stay for the weekend. This incredible opportunity allowed us exclusive access to explore the hidden nooks and crannies that most visitors to historic houses never get to see and even spend the night ALONE! in this wonderful property, 3 luxury rooms are now available to book overnight for incredible unique stays and we will share our experience.
Prepare to be surprised as we unlock the secrets behind the grand facade, every corner unveils a new detail, piecing together the intricate puzzle of life at The Hall.

That has to rank as close to the best looking historic home in England. The workmanship on the outside of the house is magnificent, not least the overall design of the place. The history of the owners over the ages was very interesting, thank you so much.

Marvelous! I enjoyed every minute of your excursion! Thank you so much!
Glad you enjoyed it!
What an amazing video so full of information but at a pace we can absorb. This has to rank as one of your very best. I do wonder though what the Hall was like at night? Was it spooky as having survived all these centuries I'd be surprised if there weren't any hauntings . On a practical algorithm point I wish there were more likes to spread it wider within TH-cam. Maybe you need to mention it more so people are encouraged to do so. Thank you once again for such a high quality video with such intelligent commentary , not something that sadly is widely seen these days.
No hauntings just some creaking floor boards as we walked around and the sound of the radiators bubbling somethings 😄 thanks for your thought’s Maureen 😌
I could easily imagine a Leeds or Bradford millionaire in 1880 saying to an architect "I want Moulton but three times bigger and it has to have a tower and a palm house." 😂
Such and incredible and informative video of the Hall. Learnt a lot from it. Superbly narrated as always.❤❤❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
Haven’t seen it all yet,but it has your usual high standards in films and commentary. You lads are pretty good.
Many thanks! ☺
Fabulous video, thanks. You always tell the stories so well!
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
The best commentary I’ve heard.
The right mix of facts and visual evidence.
Thank you, so kind.
I loved this! Never heard of The Hall. Glad I watched this. Very well done!
So glad we have shared something new for you!☺
Quite fascinating, Simon, looks like the most delightful and restorative place to stay - I suppose if you were of a certain inclination, one could always bring one's butler and really feel at home! I love Jacobean houses and then A & C and we learnt so much from this visit, Shows how important it is to keep connected to our past and history and how the people that have preceded us are the foundation of our future. Thank you and safe travels.
Thank you, so glad you enjoyed it and learnt about his wonderful property. It was such a fascinating weekend discovering the history and living it!
Lovely windows in the hall, Thankyou for an amazing video you never disappoint.❤

Wow.

Welcome!! Hope you enjoy some of the others. ☺
Fabulous video such a beautiful place
Thanks for watching 😊
Certainly a grand Old Pile! The old range in the servants' quarters was interesting. A mate has 1 that he salvaged from when the local old Cafe/Diner burnt down. Installed it in the home he designed and built himself with the flue system used as heating for the 2 story building and an efficient way to provide cooking and hot water from scrap wood.
Quite a find to have a range like that, but sure how practical it would be to cook on these days!
I liked and subscribed. I liked this video a lot.
Welcome hope you like some of the other videos!
From Brazil!🇧🇷👏👏👏❤️🩹Thanks!!!👍

I may asked to go there go there please ❤
It's very interesting that he acquired so many patents, but I must say that the Moulton bike looks extremely uncomfortable to ride! I could not ride it, no way!
❤🇧🇷
So many windows, it must be so expensive to build it!
👍❤🇨🇦
What architectural elements of the building itself make it "Jocobean"???
Some key characteristics of Jacobean architecture include, Symmetry and regularity in the structure. The roofline is punctuated by decorative gables, which add visual interest and break up the façade. The large mullioned windows, divided into smaller panes and the internal rooms (original ones) that have the
ornate decoration with the use of oak widely used in that period.
Lovely video but the Battle of the Somme was 1916, not 1915.
Hmmmm, yes you are correct, I had not put 2 and 2 together. I wonder where I got that from.... annoying will need to find out! Thanks!
Still confused living in rural Britain, French or Italian beautiful countryside
Il tutto da’ un’idea di umido e inaccogliente. Noooo non ci passerei la notte pensando anche di avere una colazione come quella! 🫣🥶👎
No dampness or feeling of that at all. It was very warm and cosy.
Doesn’t look damp or cold at all
The town buildings could do with a powerwash.
A shame that Socialist Britain owns the home now and not the family
Alex made the decision to put the home into trust. His choice.
God bless those who have kept up the structure! But most of the rest is disappointing. The rooms at the start of the vid are way over cluttered with pictures and documents, obscuring any beautiful details. Honestly, how many pictures of Moulton are necessary!? I guess I'm just disappointed that the interior, with a few notable exceptions, is so jarring compared to the exterior.
The entrance hall has a special exhibit on at the moment and would otherwise but be less full, but this is a museum and the tours tell a story in each room and so the artefacts help tell the story as you walk round. It’s a balancing act. Thank you for your thoughts.
❤
What an excellent vid, very nice narration 🌟🐳
Many thanks!
Thank you for ⚘❤👍😍
