Three guitar tracks shown one at a time, then all mixed together. On the Ric 330/12.
Don't know if this is exactly what is on the record, it's some of what I hear on it. I've made the mix more "full on" than the record, because I'm a bit obsessed with the idea that the record was originally going to sound even better than it does (before it was remixed by early U2 producer Steve Lillywhite).
Trivia: The middle part features some pull-offs but no hammer-ons.
when you see it broken down like this, you realize johnny marr is even a higher level diety than previously believed.
Never a doubt, even with this elaborate construction
Hope he sees this great tribute in all of daniels videos
Jesus Christ, Johnny was like 20 when he wrote this. Genius, and absolutely incredible cover. You're obviously incredibly talented and we love to hear you play.
This is not love, this is the bomb.
The bomb.
The bomb.
The bomb.
The bomb.
The bomb.
The bomb that blows away almost every other Smiths cover of yours...ever.
Shyness is nice and shyness can stop you....
Dudes shirt really says "memes don't exist"
Well if you're blind they kinda don't 🤔
One of the most beautiful tones i've ever seen. Great job!
great job mano
@Yes No tone is a language cant you read?
this is like light.
0:03 First guitar part
1:03 Second guitar part
1:57 Third guitar part
2:55 Full mix
The best cover for this masterpiece!! I watch it almost everyday
I could loop that last minute of the full mix for hours on end.
That is jingletastic! You have managed to bring out a musicality that's not even on the original. Beautifuly played.
Sounds better(clearer) than the original
Ah, one of my favourite Smiths songs!! As always, amazing job Daniel, you're the greatest!
This is the first time I've ever commented on TH-cam, and I'm unlikely to do it again, but I just had to comment on this video. "Ask" is an absolutely gorgeous song - one of my favorites - and you've done a masterful job of covering it here. Great, great work!!!
The mix part... I'd like never end. Beautiful rickenbacker jingle jangle
キラキラした綺麗なな音色が好き
Okay, well each part covers a different range of audio spectrum. Part 1 is bass notes, part 2 is between 1 and 2 octaves up, and part 3 reaches into the octave above that. So (like a radio with radio waves) your brain/ear is able to tune into each part pretty easily when they are all playing at once, allowing you to choose which part you hear. Also part 3 has quite a sharp, choppy rhythm to it which makes it stand out, and part 1 is hit quite hard so the initial notes are clear.
What tuning is this Daniel
Standard im getting there need a Capri Jet Glo 12 string
As in the words of Super Hans:
'Oh hold up, he's done summet there annie.
This is the sort of stuff we should be making. Complicated shit'
🤣🤣🤝🤝
That tone, though. Gorgeous.
the mix is the sound entering Heaven
Looking at photo frames of good times in your life as you walk through the cloudy hallway as you make your way to the gates
Nice touch of Reverb., almost sounds double-triple tracked. Top Player.
Hi Johnny, I mean Daniel Marr? Never get tired listening to this multi-track break
down, instant pick me up, :)
The greatest cover. 👏
Excellent excellent job. I would never be able to figure out these changes by ear, which is how I play. I can’t read music so videos like this help me tremendously. Thank you so much. Johnny Marr is an incredible guitarist!
So amazing Daniel. You are the smiths master on you tube.
I actually got a little teary when the mix came in...just simply beautiful Dan.
So so beautiful
This is absolutely stunning Daniel. I would give my left testicle to be able to play like you, and possibly even the right one as well. Really love your videos dude. :-)
You are BRILLIANT!! I've said before and I'll say it again Daniel, I could watch/listen to you play for hours!
Agora entendo de onde vem a guitarra de "Quase sem querer" do Legião Urbana...Mas o que é belo deve servir sempre de inspiração. You sound so clean and clear congratulations!
thankyou, really helps me figure out the song piece by piece
Jangle heaven! Awesome work.
How can anyone dislike this?
The video does exactly what it claims to be.
Great playing.
The joys of multitrack! This month I finally sat down to really figure it all out instead of tossing in bits for an acoustic one-track take. Marr's stuff really does get served better if it's fleshed out like this - keep up the great music!
By the way Daniel, I consider this song to be their absolute most complex (production wise) and maybe even their "masterpiece" (production wise). What do you think? There is A LOT going on in this record
I played one of these beauties the other day for the first time in my local music shop.
It sounded just incredible. It was very different to any guitar I've ever played before, so I could see it taking a lot of getting used to, but it would be so worth it.
Hopefully one day I'll be able to afford one!
Big fan of Johnny Marr and one of the highlights of TH-cam is getting to see stuff like this. Love it.
You do incredible work! Thanks for putting this together.
This is unbelievable
And here I thought I was going to learn the 3rd riff in 2 minutes and be done with it lol. Great video and breakdown, it's perfect!
This is the magical sounds of Marr & Gannon.
Thanks for good instructions.
i have to come back to this every few weeks because this is the best out there for educational or just to jam to my favorite all time band. heard others from you Daniel and your so professional and clean. would love to bring my drum kit to anywhere and jam with such an amazing lead and bass player. peace to you brother
holy crap...it's like magic
After watching this video, I listened to Ask and was immediately disappointed with the guitar part. Your rendition may not be exactly on record, but it's brilliant!
+Cameron Fairlie Not even the last end section?
This version is better I think
It the mix on the record thats the problem. It`s awful. God knows who engineered the recording but its lousy.
Steve Lillywhite, I’m fairly certain
This is really good!
You are an excellent guitar player, and an inspirational teacher. Thank you so much.
Okay the way you play the chord progression in Track 1 is really unique, I really liked that a lot. Were you using delay on that track? It sounded like you were. Great tone by the way.
For a lot of people asking how he is getting his guitar to sound like that, 90% of it is in the way he is playing it, he's a really experienced player and I can tell he's developed an awesome tone through his fingerss.
Legendary speed
Also that’s it, I’m getting a 12 string now
Buy a spark amp apparently it has all Marrs settings on it
How cool is that! You captured the genius of Johnny Marr!! TRES COOL!! Thanks!
Tone heaven
and that be how you do it!!.........a lovely cacophony of sound Daniel!
nature is a langauge
nice again!
Very very cool the way you bring it all together
I think half the views on this are mine. Love this so much.
Great job brother!
“It is so hot. I think this is the most visceral, musical heat I’ve ever had to my ear. I am considering a burning eargasm-related law suit. “ - Lippy Pongstockings
Timeless quote
Ik this is an old vid but damn this is a great breakdown of one of my favourite song by the smiths Imma learn this and try to add the parts together thanks dude
It’s so beautiful
Superb! Really great
This is sheer genius as always!
beautiful ! Great playing and filming
thank you Daniel for your videos and music.
top class guitar player!
Amazing! 🙌
I HAVE to get a loop pedal now lol.
absolutely brilliant!!!!!!!
shyness is nice but it doesn't stop you....
cheers
gosh this is beautiful.
You are just the coolest. 🙂
A Rickenbacker symphony.
Pure poetry when it comes together. How the fuck did JM write that at his age?
"Memes don't exist."
Nice track and nice shirt.
the jangle is real
Fantastic work! Congratulations, bro...
Beautiful.
you nail it, wouldn´t figure it out by myself, thanks, nice guitar!
Daniel, what effects are on the Ric? Jangle box? sounds awesome
There is no equal to a perfectly tuned, and played, Rickenbacker 12-string. Not to mention a Rick 6-string as well. Roger McGuinn (of The Byrds) never played his like this.
You get it. You take Marr's idea even higher.
Cathedral bells can't touch this. Awesome.
cara muito bom, sempre que posso escuto seu som, eo melhor que ja vi, abraço.
wow, man. this is incredible work!
Superb 👍🎸
yes, this would have been even better. and a very nice idea to show us each part seperated!
Brilliant breakdown nearly there now if thats possible with any Johnny tunes
Gorgeous!
Wow, nice guitar!
And nice playing too.
Beautiful, love the tone..
lovely. Thank you.
Wonderfull!!!!
Great !Great!
Awesome !
you've put the jigzaw puzzle together well, and sounds cleaner than the record ;-)
Your playing is really beautiful and inspirational dude. Cheers. :-)
2:53 MIX for the multiple eargasm.
Pure magic!!
Very nice.
Daniel, any chance you might do a break down of the lead and bass guitar in Regret by New Order?
F….ing Amazing Bro if The Smiths lose jonny Marr you’re the perfect substitute! Greetings from Rio!
fantastic cover.. fair play
Fucking amazing man. The Smiths have very difficult stuff, brilliant.
2:12 there are definitely some open strings in that line in the studio recording.
So awesome. Also, I want that Rick!
This is amazing. Simple as
This is GOLD!
Do you examine TAB books or just play it all by ear?
Most excellent.
