great vid Mike. Looking forward to this series...When I was a child in the 1950s here in the UK we had many similar radios, such as Vidor and Every Ready etc with the 1 series and DF series tubes (valves). The HT on these was 90v. I have a couple which at some point I want to restore...

Gudday matey, Stone the flamin Crows !!!, Cheubs are cans of beer, They're only called Cheubs at the philosophy department of the university of Woolloomooloo !! , All the rest of us Aussies call them "Tinnies" Those Yankee Tubes or Pommy Valves are sometimes called "bottles" here is Auz, Notice that many of these Aussie names reference an apparatus used for drinking. Nice little wireless your playing with there, looking forward to the next episode. Andrew

I know those valves with the D prefix, DF91, DL91 etc. from the UK battery sets of the mid-50s I used to come across in British junk shops about forty years ago. Vide www.r-type.org/exhib/aai0243.htm

Figuring out the various crosses in numbers and brands, internationally, is all part of the fun.

Some may be. Some are the lowest production numbers and rarest of all. What I read was that these lower voltage devices were developed for the uncertain mains power situation in postwar Germany.

Most used tubes are less than 3.50 each and a couple of 2 dollar 6AV6's can do about anything that a 20 dollar 12AX7 can do. Something like this can get you started: www.ebay.com/itm/Vtg-Old-RCA-TUNG-SOL-RAYTHEON-TUBES/143944526335?hash=item2183c329ff:g:yucAAOSw2w5gJBKW
