RIP headphones. I love every one of yalls videos! I'm the woman who always has a knife on her. Everyone asks to borrow it or for me to cut something for them. I own a Kershaw Blur Ken Onion. I've had it for 5 years. Its gone through so much and been around the nation. It has also cut me out of my car during an accident. I had the tanto version before that. It was difficult to keep from rounding the corner during sharpening. These might be the solution! My list for knifes right now is: Esee 6, Esee izula-2, Benchmade bugout, Dessert Warrior Kalashnikov, and Gerber Auto 6. Still looking for more to add to the list. Thanks guys!
Thenks for a video. I own a worksharp Ken onion edition with grinder attachment for like 5 years. Now I use it mostly for kitchen knifes and axes. On my opinion, advantages: -speed, sharpen a full set of kitchen knife within an hour, - sharpen different stuff like swords or axes. - it can fix a geometry of the knife if you broke a tip, or get cracks on the edge. It will not take so much time comparing to other sharpeners. - it can do a convex edge. Disadvantages: - it rouns a tip. Now matter how you sharpen. - you will never get a not curved edges.it will always some sort of convex. - creates a lot of dust so don't use it on a kitchen, work in the garage or workshop. - you need to be extremely precaisious when sharpening a thin edges like 0.2mm. most likely geometry will be ruined.better use more presice equipment like tsprof or edge pro. Cheers to all.
Literally bought the Ken onion edition 4 days ago and love it! Great option for someone that wants a good edge without the time to invest 90 minutes into a knife set
Well I have the Ken Union edition and after watching this video I'm glad there is still hope I'm on 10000 strokes and still my knife is dull Maybe someday
@@keviningles5580 Its a bit of a learning curve,i struggled at first ,unneven bevels, rounded tips, but can now get razor edges in minutes.stick with it,its worth the effort👍
I have an original Work Sharp and it def gets it going quick, but I kept rounding the tip. I think the 2.0 is a great improvement, just wish I could get a guard swap, instead of buying a whole new unit.
I also own the Orginal Work Sharp system. I’m noticing that my guide is showing wear where the knife’s edge has cut through. My concern is that has that changed the angle of the edge? If so I’d like to purchase a replacement guide. How can I achieve that!
This is also one of my major complaints, and it's one that I've seen from others as well for a LONG, LONG time. They can print x65, x4, etc, but can't print the ACTUAL grit on the belt?
I got the Ken Onion edition with the accessory, been using Arkansas Oil stones or Japanese Wet stones for years, but the Ken Onion let me get great results faster and now I can easily do all my serrated blades. I hadnt even thought of being able to get blanks and make my own knives. Thanks for this video!
I guess that leaves me out I don't do the Instagram thing. Some people just don't like Instagram and that's not fare when you have drawing or contest just on that platform! But great video, I look forward to the next one.
Just put in an order for the precision sharp and I’m stoked! I have a decent stone but have found that I have trouble getting an even edge especially on the longer blades. Been looking for a sharpener this style for a while but they’ve always been too expensive. Stoked to try this!
Been using the Ken onion for years. Takes a little bit of learning for those new to sharpening, but it’s superb. Also have the extra attachment for larger items but rarely use it.
I've had a field sharpener for about 2 years now and got one for my grandson, we love them. I've been thinking about the Ken Onion Sharpener for quite a while and just bought the mod 2. Used it on a machete first then a folder. If I would have tried to do the machete with a stone it would have taken forever. It is sharper than when I bought it new. Next week I will be going after the mower blades.
I have been using the little hand sharpener for a couple years now and let me tell you the diamond plate is still good even the very course one is going strong.
I have ruined multiple knives on this machine and especially irritating issue is it they have now addressed being able to set a specific angle without fighting against a guide pushing your straight up. in my opinion workshop should offer a replacement policy. I know the Ken onion models that TH-cam sought to talk us into all these years.
I love my Ken onion edition with the tool grinding attachment, the standard grinder attachment is good but the tool grinding one is so much easier to get a consistent Edge all the way down
@ 26:10 i like how he said on his knife he customized his blade to be more surgical closer to the tip of the blade. On back l to the rear of the blade is more eough for cutting thick rope.
I really appreciated this video. Those electric sharpeners always intrigued me, but like Kurt just made me too nervous. Now I feel confident in buying the Mark II.
WorkSharp is my go-to for sharpening I've got the Guided diamond pivot system with the upgrade kit, in my mind that's the best all around system. Also got the OG power WorkSharp, gotta get my hands on one of the adjustable systems especially if it's coming out with more attachments
Ive never been good at sharpening knives, I process allot of my own deer. I just got one of these and sharpened every knife i could find in my house and they are shave the hair off your a** sharpe!!! I love this lil machine. Best thing i bought in ages.
Just used my new Precision Adjust tonight to sharpen my folk's knives. So dull to start I couldn't even slice through a banana with the peel. Afterwards? Like warm butter! Great product!
The only thing on the power tool sharpener is the price, I can get a dewalt drill with a 5ah battery for cheaper than than belt sander.....you guys price yourself out.
I really feel deeply that work. Sharpe should offer a trade-in for those people who have never gotten a decent out of the work Sharpe, Ken, onion model, etc..
I would have liked to see a before/after demo how well it cut before and after being sharpened. But I'm seriously giving the Work Sharp Ken Onion a shot at my dull kitchen knives.
I wish the Blade Grinder attachment had a little bit more space between the top rollers, it’s pretty difficult to sharpen curved blades at a shallow angle, like putting a 15 degree on a karambit
Buy a cheap Belk grinder for kitchen knives and buy the pocket sharpener for hand weapons. The precision adjust is a fairly good machine problems with it to make you have to buy accessories such as a little stand so it doesn’t bend, but for the most part you can put a decent edge on your tool
Absolutely... start with 320grit and stay on that for a while then progress down with Patence. I also purchased the extra 3d printed plastics and use lapping films down to .3 microns. I get perfect mirrior finish if that's what I'm looking for.
I found this to be completely an advert everything they say about the original can onion model is all nonsense. I never put a knife on this machine that came back with the same point it routinely changed profiles and getting a knife to cut paper took more work than just pulling out a stone and a bottle of oil and doing it myself.
LL Bean is in Maine. You want to see Fall Foliage you MUST go to Maine because that will blow your mind Zac. I've been to 46 of the 50 and they are all pretty.
I’d recommend the Ken Onion without the elite package. Unless you need it. It’s just a better motor. I’ve had problems with the regular Workshop set up and the motor didn’t last more than a month for me. This was a couple years ago and that’s just me but from now on a stick with Ken onion he’s a name I trust anyway
So wait does the heat the belt creates on your knife disrupt the temper on the edge? I'm watching sparks fly off so there's definitely a fair amount of heat there, right?
great setup love mine the only thing I wish I would have gotten with it is a hard case to store it when I am not using it I don't have much space to keep it on the countertop or a bench so I keep it in a Box but it's messy. I have been looking at the KEN ONION EDITION KNIFE & TOOL SHARPENER for some time now and I would like to get it with the other attachments. the only thing that is stopping me from getting it is the hard case to store it
Recently I was looking for 'rust free(not rust resistance)', submersible knife for EDC. Not the scuba knife, though because they are mostly fixed blade. I wanted a mini folding knife with clip, but there is only one knife - Spyderco Salt Dragonfly. Because most folding knives comes with bronze bushing and rust resistance steel. I want to know if there is other option. And I think that would be a great episode as well.
I was thinking about going from the Precision Adjust to the Ken Onion but I might just stay with the Adjust. And if I wanted to upgrade I'll go to the MK2.

Same bro. I've had mine for about 2 years now and I can STILL put an edge on some D2.
field sharpener is dollar for dollar one of the best investments in tools I've made, I've had mine for 3 or 4 years now.
With the stones removed, doubles as a broadhead wrench. So much thought and work went in to making the field sharp a perfect tool!

🙌🏻 YES!!! Any possibility of that being a thing?
Yeah me too. I think the trick is to not pull the knife all the way through, stop before the tip gets to the middle of the belt.

Only thing I wish WorkSharp would do is clearly label the inside of the belts. I'm color blind and it makes it difficult to know which belt is which.
Touche thanks for the feedback.
You don't have fingers?
This is also one of my major complaints, and it's one that I've seen from others as well for a LONG, LONG time. They can print x65, x4, etc, but can't print the ACTUAL grit on the belt?
I have the same problem, there are other companies that make belts for it. That do print on the belt
There is nothing wrong with your color vision. You and I and my grandfather are correct!

Hey, BladeHQ when are you guys having your anniversary sale? The last couple of years its been in march.

Yes, I also request better identification of grid belts, color does not work for many of us

be careful with those...they will turn a straight blade into a compound curve blade real quick

can the mk2 do recurves? I can freehand most of my knives but recurves gimme the most trouble, even if I use different ceramic or diamond rods on it.

Ken Onion,all day long
He should be wearing safety glasses too
Anyone had the Ken Onion and Mark 2 to compare for sharpening hunting and pocket knives?
Benchmade is putting a lot of knives on the market with the 14 degree select edge. It's hard to find a 14 degree guide. It would be great if work sharp could add that to their sharpener
Have a 15, just add a few little pieces of paper to each guide. Measure it, boom 14 degrees.
