  • Dr. M.J.W. Gotte presents “Cardiac MRI and Electro Pathology: Current Status and Future Perspectives” as part of the Dept. of Cardiac Sciences Grand Rounds Series on June 18, 2024.
    About the Speaker
From 1985-1992 Dr. M.J.W. Götte studied Medicine at Erasmus University, Rotterdam, Netherlands. In 2000, he obtained his PhD from the VU Medical Center, Amsterdam, Netherlands, with focus on MRI tagging and cardiac remodeling after myocardial infarction. He subsequently completed his Cardiology training in 2005. During his Cardiology training he remained closely involved in the clinical cardiac MR service and heart failure outpatient clinic at the VU Medical Center. In the period 2011-2017 he was chief-trainer Cardiology and director of the cardiac MR service at the Haga Teaching Hospital, The Hague, the Netherlands. In 2017 he moved back to AmsterdamUMC - location VU Medical Center.
Since 2006, he is studying electrical activation of the heart using the combined application of cardiac MRI and ECG imaging. From 2009 he also investigated the interaction between cardiac MR and pacemakers, and the impact of pacing on the heart using MRI. In recent years he has focused mainly on the integration of cardiac MR with the electrophysiological workflow and the application of advanced 3D techniques to characterize the arrhythmic substrate. This ultimately led to a translational and clinical interventional cardiac MR program being set up in AmsterdamUMC under his leadership from 2018 onwards. In 2020, the first MRI-guided ablation in humans was performed in AmsterdamUMC. Currently, an extensive iCMR research program is being conducted.
