We had a 12.5 kWh PV system installed last fall using Enphase IQ8A M-Inverters feeding a 4C Combiner box (Celluar and Wi-Fi Envoy). Our system was scaled to cover 125% of our average annual usage - the maximum our utility would allow. We now want to add ESS, I like the scalability of the 5P. We have a newer high efficient 1700 sq ft villa (built in 2019 with a 3-ton Lennox AC). Will 3 5P's provide "whole house" backup? Would a "soft-start" device improve things? And I love the app.
This was a great high level presentation. I’m in the process of getting the enphase system and the solar company I’m going with recommended the IQ10T battery.
I like the idea of having more peak power output. My house is old and doesn’t come with central air nor do we have a pool.
I do plan on getting a modern heat pump and electric stove. Plus I have an EV. Just want to be prepared properly.
The system will be 5.67kWh so I have a buffer based on my energy consumption. Seems the 5P is the better platform since it’s hardwired vs. wireless.
Yes 5 p is preferred the EV and if your going from gas to electric appliances 5p makes sense … it’s a higher price for 5p but you may need less kWh of storage
Ask for a quote on 5p depending on cost difference you can make decision

I just got a Tesla system and didn't really consider the alternatives in-depth, but it's cool to know that there's some healthy competition and other good options. And this was a very informative video! 👍

@@solarbygreengreg I think I might add more Powerwalls in the future, possibly in anticipation of getting an EV, but also because I think it’s so cool and I like Elon Musk.

Sol-Ark has a generator connection and supports charging batteries and providing power to loads at the same time. Once the batteries reach your target SOC, the generator kicks off as well.
SolArk is a solid unit ... lots of great features... I might do a review on it . however Enphase is only unit I know that if SOC gets to low IQ8 forms micro grid that can charge battery.. without using s gemerator . Thanks for watching.

I have just installed a 6.9 kw enphase system with 2 IQ5P batteries, although it is a very nice system when it works, but I find it is temperamental, as per the other model batteries as stated they have a communication drop out between the gateway and the batteries when this happens, when night falls you keep using the grid and not the batteries, as they have stated they have hard wired the batteries to the gateway, mmmm still the same problem, I am waiting for them to fix this, the other thing I noticed is the grid control is locked into ON GRID mode but your app says it is in SELF_CONSUMPTION mode so it wont switch to batteries, I also think there is to much control of the owner with the app you tend to change settings and this throws things out, Hope this makes sense
Sounds like there are a few kinks to work out.... hopefully Enphase support can help...

I have line to site internet where I live. If the area has a black out, most likely the internet from the line to site provider will lose power as well. Without internet, will the Enphase 5p battery system shut down/ inoperable? I understand the Enphase system 5 P has an optional back up cellular module to keep contact with the internet. But what happens if the whole city loses power ? Does the system fail? Thanks for the excellent video.
Enphase will still operate .. This is what I like about 5P , it is hard hard-wired connection not internet

Regarding the round-trip-efficiency: do you know "the real-world" value, compared to string-inverters, when you only pull out little power (e.g. 200W in the night)?
I heard, that (string-)inverters may run on low efficiency in this case. In this low power scenario: will the 5P-battery only use one internal inverter and the five will stay on sleep?
I heard about hybrid-string-inverters, that are not able to provide only 200W at night and then the 200W will come from the grid.
I have not heard of issue using 200 watts ...
But I could imagine a string hybrid could have a min output because those are bigger inverters VS Enphase 5p 5 small inverters .. there are small string inverters for OFF -grid those can do small loads / low watts The spec sheets would need review by engineer of inverter mfr ...
Do you think they'll make a 10P?
Not immediately …. I think enphase decided the smaller batteries are more scalable to homeowners needs
And also smaller size makes it easier to fit around walls with limited space

Can you run your house on these batteries if you don't have electricity in area ? Ate these batteries only mean to be back up !
Yes you can run off grid
Does the general you connect to the backup battery system have to be stand by or can it be a portable generator?
Probably can use a portable Gen but that may only run a few circuits … will need a loads panel for those few circuits

I think it should be ok but check with enphase … enphase can communicate with major brands of Gen sets … but not sure on military units … thanks for watching .
If 5P has more power what is advantages of the 10T battery? IS 10T battery going to last the double longer on the same load because it is 10kWh battery vs 5kWh?
Yes exactly ... 10T has more capacity ... and also 10T will be lower price vs buying (2) of 5P's ... thanks for watching
Seems if you get two of the 5P batteries the 10T becomes inferior by a considerable margin.
The Enphase 5p Is Vast improvement VS 10T if you buy (2) 5P's ... Enphase will offer the 10T at lower price vs getting 2 5P's and also to keep supporting homeowners with 10T or 3T in case they want to add more capacity...since the T series is not compatable with 5P. Thanks for watching.
In another way you can calculate with Total Price/total kWh= Price of each kWh
