Hi Juliet - I just found your channel and so glad I did! (I always love seeing younger women getting excited about sewing!) I try to spread the word that like any other ability, your skills grow with practice and experience. I encourage new sewists to manage their expectations about how their early garments will look and fit, and to choose patterns properly so they can feel some early wins. You did ask about sewing for ourselves or for others? I'm with you! Sewing is my hobby and the pleasure I get from crafting and wearing a 100% unique garment is a big part of my enjoyment. I do sew gifts for others pretty frequently, but sewing by request is pretty uncommon (in fact, when the 1000th person says "you could make so much money sewing for others," I am quick to say I need to keep it as a hobby, not a job). Looking forward to watching more of your videos.
I agree, sewing for myself every time. I made something for someone and now they are trying to ask me to make more. I have no interest in measuring up for someone else and having the pressure of getting it right and perfect for them. At least when I make clothes for me, I know the inside seams might be a bit wonky etc but it’s ok because I made it. I agree also that sewing is a process for yourself to relax, be creative etc.

As a retired teacher, I completely understand burn out from this career. I also loved it. So important to have a mindset that protects you from getting overworked in the job. The students and families are lucky to have you. I so appreciate your honesty in this video.

Love your Q&A sessions. I like sewing for myself. Number of years ago, I made 2 bridesmaid dresses for my brothers wedding. The maids lived out of town and couldn't try on till 1-2 days before the wedding. No hem, one was a little too small. Can't out beautiful. Never again, to stressful. 😍

I plan to make the dress from the Domestika course this weekend! I've been so nervous about making my first dress but I'm glad that anyone can make it. And thank you for the overlocker recommendations! My mum has one and is always going on about how great it is, so I think this will be my next major sewing purchase. Listening to you always revives my interest in sewing!

I love your character & your videos, I like to sew for my children, grandchildren & myself. I have a question maybe you could advise: need to fix a neckline that’s too high for my daughter & she wants it low but it’s a purchased dress.
