Originally the ending was Dimash taking the bullet in the back shielding her, then collapsing in her arms. But the director decided to cut that and to keep it as an open ending. Good idea because I bet all the Dears would have raised a huge outcry!!!😜🤣🤣🤣

This one is not about Dimash's vocal skills but about the story line. It is set in Stalin's Russia. In order to save his life the woman tells her lover she loves another, to get him to leave. He struggles to believe it," But you were my destiny?! But if that's what you want... Okay..." The Officer, realising she will never really be his, decides to destroy them both. This is all about the brutal abuse of power to destroy lives and loves, and that is never Okay...
We are left hanging - we don't know how it will end. True then and also today.

The way I see it, Dimash's chatacter is a golden memory. Beautiful love from her youth.
He was her boyfriend. The bad guy who tried to own her was someone who had power over her at that time.
Even though she eventually found happiness with a good man, she thinks of him and cries bitter tears. He is saying he is going now. It's Okay. Life worked out the way it did. They were destined to have that time together. Now he is leaving. He wants her to let go of his memory so she can be happy and not be so sad about him.
That is my interpretation.

If I remember...he released this in July 31st which coincides with an important day of remembrance in his country for their fight for independence and the many lives lost.
It was going to be released on March 5th because of the war in Ukraine starting they delayed releasing it. The video is about Russia during WW 2

Director Alina Veripia was blown away when she learned she was to create the story and video for Dimash's new song. Dimash also chose Alina's favorite from 4 stories: A beautiful and deep love story set in the years of Stalin's repression. This love is so deep, pure and immortal, It defies the horror, the fear, the penetrating cold and darkness of this time.
The video was recorded in color but looks black and white, very dark, spookey. Only the lovers are shown in a bright, sun-drenched, warm, gold-bronze setting. These scenarios reinforce the intense feelings emanating from Dimash's breathy, delicate voice and the haunting, magical and beguiling, but also from the frightening and disturbing images.

- Music - Igor Krutoy (Krutoy means 'Cool', *1954 in Ukraine SSR). He lives and works in Moscow/ Russia. He is singer, a world- famous composer and music titan in Russia (billionaire). His family lives in the US. Krutoy came out of retirement to write songs for Dimash. The maestro and Dimash have been working together from time to time since 2018. They are friends and have a father-son relationship.
Krutoy wrote of what working with Dimash meant to him: “How lucky it is to be doing what you love to do, writing for such a brilliantly feeling singer, evoking deep emotion in the audience and being in demand'.

Dimash has left us a couple of cliffhangers.
It’s one of the few songs where he doesn’t show his wide vocal range or vocal exercises other than that incredibly soft, breathy voice. Perhaps the content of this song is more important to him than showing his vocal ability. I think that’s a very good choice for this song. At first the song didn’t appeal to me that much. I wasn’t alone there. You’re not used to such a “normal” song from Dimash. But together with the MV, a masterpiece. It moved me incredibly.
All his songs and especially the MV’s have a deeper meaning. I love this one so much. It’s one of my favorites. The MV is about the time during Stalin’s repression in 1937. Back then, the secret police could do whatever they wanted. I think this officer for some reason was looking for Dimash’s character and then forced his girlfriend into some kind of relationship. She had to endure it to protect the love of her life. Realizing that she never stopped loving Dimash’s character, the officer ended it in his own way.
The video was shot to the end, but the scene at the end where he dies in her arms was left out. But you can also see it on his channel or the link underneath, if you really want to see.
As for the song, I actually like it better without the vocal acrobatics. We all know what Dimash is capable of vocally and I find that breathy, deeply sad voice really fitting. The MV really moved me deeply.

This is a love story in reference to Russian history. The Stalin’s repressions of the 1930s. How evil takes control over all. The government ruled every aspect of the people lives. Even (NKVD Officer) having the ability to effect “Her” direct memories of pure love, by tainting them with the uncontainable power over “Her”(The Lovers) life.
The music video was shot in St. Petersburg, because no other city could convey the flavor of the harsh and terrible year of 1937.

A good work always leaves something unsaid, allowing us to become partners in creativity. Any interpretation of this clip has the right to exist.
In my interpretation, all the contradictions and inconsistencies between the video and the lyrics have been resolved.
I had a puzzle formed when I spread the events described in the verses and shown in the video in time. The whole plot of the song is divided into 2 parts. The first part in the frame: the confrontation of Love and Coercion as an allegory of the confrontation of Liberty and Suppression (a very timely identification of modern Russian realities with the time of Stalin's repressions in 1937).
The second part of the plot is out of the frame, in the lyrics.
Imagine that with a shot, the light goes out not only on the screen, but also in the eyes of our hero...
Dimash's character stands in a dirty gray cold corner of St. Petersburg and tells us his story... A posthumous account of the life events that led him to this reality. The voice of the disembodied spirit of the slain hero is like the rustle of the wind that whirls with flakes of snow flying in this St. Petersburg dead end, in which our hero is stuck forever...
The lyrics say that the world was once colored... All the colors remained in the world of the living. There is eternal gray in this St. Petersburg lane... And the hero's memories are also MONOCHROME. He paints everything the same color. Pleasant memories are painted with warm shades, unpleasant ones with cold ones.
He does not know that he died (that's why we, the audience, do not know, because we see this story through his eyes), he does not understand the nature of estrangement with his beloved (who watched the film "The Sixth Sense", he will understand), but he accompanies her year after year... He sees that over time, the girl began to "heal", spiritual wounds began to heal, although she is still crying, blaming herself for his death. GREAT reaction. Love this MV also. So many of us Dears were in total disbelief with the ending. As mentioned below somewhere, Dimash did take the bulletin for his love. During the filming it left everyone in tears. I like the way they ended it. My heart can't take Dimash's death. LOL
I know you probably have a ever expanding list of Dimash songs to react to. Daybreak from his Bastau Concert in 2017 (right after the I Am Singer competition) is extremely emotional. In the filming Dimash protected his girl and was shot, but several of the people involved in the filming actually got upset about this ending so it was decided not to use it in the final cut and leave some hope that they both got away. Apparently Dimash did a great dying scene. There is a leaked cam of it online.

The first time I saw this video, I decided the Soviet officer shot himself (committed suicide) at the end. That's the ending I can allow, only because if he shot at the couple and missed, he would pursue them for the rest of their lives. Besides, Dimash is a time-traveling superhero who can't be killed, and it's not permitted to make him unhappy, which he would be if his girlfriend was shot 😂

The video director and writer of the script described her idea behind this MV : “This is a very beautiful and deep love story that takes place during the years of Stalin’s repressions. In this horror, in this piercing cold, in this crime, the love of two people is born, as if they did not come from this world. And they are so pure, so beautiful in their feelings, that no darkness can extinguish this light." Regarding location, the team made an unanimous decision to film the MV in St. Petersburg, because no other city could convey the flavor of the harsh and terrible year of > 1937. Our hero and the girl are the couple, and their life and love story are invaded, and broken by NKVD (old name for KGB), representatives of the regime`s power, who could pick on you for any reason, take anything from you, throw you in jail, legally execute you, and even assassinate you, shoot you in the back. The officer represents power, so he can claim anything he wants, and he can get away with anything. The officer is taking advantage of an abusive search of the apartment, and tries to claim the girl by force. He succeeds to trap her for a short while, and then pretends to release her, only to shoot after them moments later. The twisted attitudes of people representing power in a repressive regime. The fate of beauty, good and purity under an oppressive regime, and the self-entitlement of evil, that puts it`s brutal stamp over it, with the gunshot.
The representatives of the authoritarian regime manage to destroy their life, to reduce a "world full of color" down to only "a flash in the sky". The switch back and forth between images of the happy couple and images of the girl being pestered by the NKVD officer, has the purpose of highlighting the contrast between the sun-lit beauty of good and love, and the grim-colored ugliness of evil intentions.
The screen going black before the gunshot helps keep the focus on the attitude of evil, who doesn`t know to do anything other than hurt, successfully or not - instead of on who the NKVD agent managed to hit or not.
The gunshot remains ringing in the dark, making it timeless, leaving us with a bitter taste, and making it a powerful reminder of historical regime brutality.

The song was written first, and it was described like this : "In the song, which organically combines modern music and elements of classical sound, the lyrical hero surrenders to memories of the lost love. However, despite the bitter decision to break up, the hero meets it with courageous calm. As he bids farewell, he wishes his former lover no regrets about the story, even though it is over: “Don’t cry or regret, just wipe away the bitter tears in your eyes soon.” - so it is a gentle, wise, break-up song. (also the MV gunshot sound is not part of the song itself, it`s only part of the video story)
For the video that was scripted later, the video director was inspired by the composition to write 4 scenarios. Dimash picked this one. They decided to add more depth to the song. The story in the video is supported by the lyrics in a different way - they represent acceptance of fate, and words of encouragement, in the face of unjust, forced separation.
In both versions, the protagonist is trying to heal, be "Okay", after a separation.

Dimash has referenced moments from history in his songs before - "Daididau" - th-cam.com/video/Ra4v19Rp6cQ/w-d-xo.html - based on a poem written by a kazakh poet while wrongfully imprisoned by the soviet regime, when he was falsely told that his wife had left him. He was reunited with his wife (who hadn`t actually left him) when he was briefly released from prison. Shortly after, he was imprisoned again, and sadly, he was eventually executed. His name was cleared 20 years later.

(a tsar’s edict in 1916 ordered males of non-Russian origin aged 19-43 from the province that the Russian Empire annexed in 1867 - that included territories of today’s Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan - to join the russian empire`s army ; this led to famine in the territories where the men were taken away from, and to a huge revolt against the tsar, revolt which was stifled brutally).

Your faces at the end of the video made me laugh because I had the same reaction. 😉 Before I new Dimash's artistry, I was really sick of hearing another song about love. But with him, even love songs are outstanding, meaningful, relatable. Then the videos! Wow! Dimash bravely taking the extra step to make a point. "Absolute power corrupts absolutely!"...comes to my mind. The terrifying Stalin era in Russian history is a good example of that. Such authority can force they will onto other people, even condemning a loving relationship, making it forbidden. Simply because the representative of that power wants it for himself. Your woman, your house, your life, nothing can stop him taking it. I feel the video pseaks against such power. I'd like to suggest to react to the MV of Love of tired swans and Know.
