They're just a really weird thing that was put in that most people won't even acknowledge or notice, and the fact that there's no answers as to what they are, just a really weird background alien, makes them so cool. So many questions but no answers, something a lot of games are missing nowadays.

Like unmarked cabinets randomly put in arcades with no explanation (usually as a pseudo-market test), kids that got sick from playing arcade games (long playing periods with no rest), mysterious men in suits investigating these cabinets (CIA or FBI trying to break up gambling rings in arcades). Individually it can all be explained, but at the time with no good internet, playground word-of-mouth culture, and it all happening at the same time, it looked extremely suspicious. The Modern Rogue did a video on Polybius, and it’s an interesting dive into the subject.

I've actually been stung by a dead man o'war. I was about 13, and it washed up on the beach when I was visiting Florida. Being from a beach town, I knew what it was and how much they hurt, but some Karen came up insisting I got back. I turned to tell her I knew what I was doing, but then a wave pushed the jellyfish so one of its tentacles wrapped around my leg. Surprised I didn't curse her out. It hurt like hell for about 2 days iirc, but the poison was nowhere near as potent because it was dead
Fun fact, Sonic.EXE was so bad and poorly written we removed it from the creepypasta wiki. JCTheHyena had an absolute meltdown because of it, it was funny as hell. I was a chat moderator when it all went down.
