    Listen to this 100 times after work with friends, one of which was from Mexico, 50+ years ago. He said her Spanish was perfect. Great memories. Miss Arnold DeLeon.

    I bought this album in a second hand record shop in London, Islington, almost 20 years ago. It was playing in the shop and I forked out £15 for it! Lost my turntable and never listened to it until last night. Out of curiosity I took it along to Vinyl Night at my local pub. Wow! Fantastic voice. Great robust arrangements. Passion!

    My parents had this album, and I learned this song the way Nancy Ames sings it. Her version is so beautiful and passionate. I might have worn this one out from playing it over and over again! Thanks for bringing back some great memories!

    She's brilliant and passionate. Her best music is still not digital. She recorded several records and then retired. Our loss.

    I used to live in Mexico City back in the 60's, in those years I only heard 2 songs of this beautiful mujer. CRY SOFTLY and La Malaguena. I'm Mexican I can tell you her Spanish is PERFECT in this song, every single word is spoken correctly without any accent; and this is not the only song she sings in Spanish.Now thanks to the new technology I can hear and see here in TH-cam more songs of Nancy Ames, she even sings very good Samba Brasileira.Does anybody knows if she is relative of Ed Ames? (The Ames Brothers)

    One correction--this album came out in 1964. She has another version, recorded live at the Americana Hotel, which was released in 1968 (that performance is also on TH-cam).

    I played this song on the jukebox as the B-side of another song by Nancy when I was at a club until I drove the other patrons nuts. I don't speak Spanish however I love the music and her vocals-full of emotion. After a little over 30 years, I still have remembered this song and looked for it periodically. I'm glad you posted it. I hope more viewers listen and post. This is GOOD MUSIC not like so much out now-people won't remember today's songs in 30 years. Thanks.

    I love her ability to sustain long notes, along with her passionate delivery, which she seems to pour out straight from her heart. I'd like to see her version of Cucurrucucu Paloma on TH-cam. It was a radio hit that I loved when I heard it while on the school bus, daily, circa 1962. Lost it in a house fire in 1995.

    Nancy ames.this is the first time i heard her sing.i was shocked to find she was the original singer on cinderella rockefella.which was a big uk hit for another duo.

      Nancy Ames cowrote Cinderella Rockefella with Mason Williams, but Esther & Abi Ofarim had the hit with it.

    My father had this album in the 1960s, and I later got one for myself--I have her albums on vinyl, but unfortunately no record player now. A couple of her albums have been released on CD, but I don't think this one has been has yet. I saw Nancy live, I think around 1971, at a home show in Dinner Key Auditorium (originally, a hangar at International Pan Am Airport), in Coconut Grove, Miami, Florida. I stayed to watch her second show also. Comic Marty Allen was her opening act. She was very vivacious.
    PS This album was released in 1964, not 1969.

    Thank you, Michael Fooks. Being her age, I was around to watch TWTWTW. And, no one sings Malaguena Selarosa as well as she. She was quite talented. And, the show was a bit ahead off it's time.

    There are various sites that sell it. Search for the album, "This is the girl that is Nancy Ames."
    Liberty Records. I bought one for about $20 a year ago. They're out there. :))

    While this is my favorite version EVER of this song, along with being one of my favorite songs period, I can also recommend Trini Lopez's version. He delivers as more of a Spanish folk ballad but it is still very beautiful.

    • @gerardoherreromorales8490
      @gerardoherreromorales8490 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a Mexican song, not Spanish folk. Composed by Mexican maestro Elpidio Ramírez. And the best version is the original mariachi with Miguel Aceves Mejía.

    • @carlosdeleon8068
      @carlosdeleon8068 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Indeed Trini López,who I think recorded it first than Nancy Ames in his The Latin Album, did a great job with this song. In fact Nancy was his 'special guest star' on his tv special The Trini Lopez Show broadcast in the late 60'.

    Sounds like this is where Chingon got his intro of his very popular Malaguena Salerosa from Kill Bill. Try listening to Philippine versions of Merci Molina (La Malaguena) & Victor Wood (Malaguena Salerosa) both in English versions. Bravo Nancy Ames. thanks Michael Fooks for sharing this.

    Being Spanish with parents and grandparents from the Philippines, I was exposed to many Spanish songs. Mom said the Mexicans had the most beautiful love songs. Thank you for this. Do you have her version of El Ayer to share? My mom's albums seems to have disappeared. Thanks!
