I have the same phone, it has some very weird interface quirks. But you soon get used to it. It's a good conversation starter but not an overly practical phone.
DynamoTightstar Include some Sushi and a nice Cappuccino (also include those Newton's Cradle / Newton's Pendulum / Kinetic Balls office toys into the mix).
Owned one of these for about a year. It was my primary phone. It finally started dropping calls constantly (after I dropped it about a thousand times). I went to buy my second one and was told they discontinued them. I miss it.
my brother inlaw still has the original. i remember him using it . signal was awesome and the battery lasted ages. he used to drop that thing amd it would never fuck up .
I had a brick phone back in 1993 and 1994. I decided that I wanted a smaller phone and sent the brick phone to my dad. He insisted it was the best phone ever and refused to get a new phone until Verizon finally told him that they would no longer support it. Thanks for the video. It brought back memories. Andrew
This can replace people home phone. Its not dumb the company should've put a decent screen on it, better battery, memory card. etc. I'm going to do more research on this because I need something like this to replace my house me phone. How is the call quality?
Every hipster will be using these as they adjust their nuts in their skinny jeans, vape on their box mod, watch their beards grow, and put on their wool beanies in 90 degree weather
I have had one of those for a couple years now. The battery lasts forever. It worked on rogers when I lent it to a friend, but last week I tried to use it when my phone died and it wouldn't work on virgin mobile here in Canada. Works great in the Bluetooth mode when you need to charge you phone. you can even text through the Bluetooth if you don't mind a lot of button tapping.
That isn't a full size sim, that's a mini sim card slot. A full sized sim card is the size of a credit card. The Xiaomi MI3 comes with a mini sim slot, which is very useful.
why wouldn't they make use of that extra space and put a huge battery and quick charging in there? then it could double as a powerbank, a flashlight and conference speaker, all in one device.
Well you must be in your 50 years old because the majority here 18-30 spent their childhood also in sitting playing games but not on iPads on NES and GBA or PS2. no offence mate but you are so old yu missed a whole generation after you.
+osamaFXX you are talking about spoiled kids with rich parents. It's hard to get/buy games then compared today, so kids back in the day still play outside most of the time.
Man, I wish this had been out a couple of years ago. My daughter used to beg us to get her a smartphone and I used to joke that I was going to get her one of the old 80's brick phones. Hell I would have bought this just to see her open it up on Christmas morning. Of course, I'd have her open up the real cell phone eventually and I'd keep that big bad boy for myself, but the moment would have been priceless. XD
I have 2 of those.Have been using them since more than a year. Being used as official office mobile phone. Very useful as landline provider bsnl gives very pathetic service in my location. The phone is really big and feels like a wireless landline device. Unaware clients do get impressed/curious. There is very little chance of misplacing it by the office staff because its just to big to be misplaced. Battery lasts long and ringtone volume is very loud. Few of my friends also use it as their office mobile phone.
It could have 6 months standby time. In fact, it could probably have much more than that, since the functional part of it can all be made on a single chip, and the rest of the phone can be just battery.
Just in case you're scrolling down hoping for a comment to say the name of the song, the song is called; *Wish you were here* by Lee Fields & The Expressions. Have a good day.
Only 14hrs of talk time!!! WTF? I mean, I get this.. noone has landline phones anymore. So this would be dope for a inhome unit IF you got 24hours of talk time AND 3 month standby time. There's way more than enough space in this phone to get those numbers.
***** Pretty sure the iPhone 5 has a standard talk time of a bit over 8 hours... and the 5S is a bit over 10 hours. Either way, you could very easily throw a larger battery in this phone to up the runtime.
Sorry, but even if for your landline is not important, for me a landline phone is still important as calling from a mobile phone to a landline phone is expensive.
Cruel, man, cruel. 😂😂😂 Jimmy Kimmel ought to do a segment about it, like he does those segments where the parents fake eating all their kid's Halloween candy and where the parents give their kids Christmas gifts of food out of the fridge!!
the brick comes also as a home phone with a 1km (0.6 miles) range. Lou the battery holder is purely there to accommodate the smaller 1000mah battery, the bigger one is an option. oh yeah its been out for at least a few years now.
I come back to this videos sometimes wondering if there is a American version or a new version at all. Surprisingly I have not seen anything in this market at all.
Of course that is the down sized brick. The actual brick was the same width and height but twice the size front to back; about the size of a paving brick. They used to be programmed for the carrier in the store when you bought them. The brick and the early flip phones I could program by ear from the touch tones. I used to call out other sales people from across the department when they made a programming error as they were programming I used to joke that the phone was good for emergencies because you could grab the antenna like a handle and bash your attacker over the head before you dialed 911. We sold so many phones that US West installed a customer service terminal in our store to "activate" the phones so we wouldn't tie up the (800) number phone lines into their service center.
It's about half the size of the actual phone that it is a copy of. They were almost four inches in depth. My uncle had one of these phones and has kept it as a novelty on his shelf for years. Also the way you handle it makes me think that it doesn't weigh at all what the original did. That thing is heavy.
I just bought this on eBay for £15.99. Amazon uk was only £16.29 but on eBay you get nectar points and way better customer service. Great video. This is gonna looks the bollocks in my office!
They used to be bricks. Now they're tiles.

My old man had a similar phone, and always screaming like crazy to the phone [ childhood memories]
Yea, my parents scream like crazy on the phone. I don't get why lol
Owned one of these for about a year. It was my primary phone. It finally started dropping calls constantly (after I dropped it about a thousand times). I went to buy my second one and was told they discontinued them.
I miss it.
Pouch of "nothing" is for cocain, jeez, read the manual.
Hey guys, just wanted to say that this's a great phone if you're doing time traveling. used it twice in the 1980s, no one suspected.
my brother inlaw still has the original. i remember him using it . signal was awesome and the battery lasted ages. he used to drop that thing amd it would never fuck up .
is jack your imaginary friend?

The audio takes me back...cassette days...
4:00 That is really humbling XD
It would make sense to make this phone big and then trow some giant battery in it..it would last whole year with out charge
In standby, for sure. And at least a few days of talk time if they put all that empty space to use. :D
Put NiCads in it, so I'd last less than 2 hours, just like they did back in the day.
Douglas Estep
LOL
okay i legit fell asleep watching this last night and got a solid 8 hour of needed rest. thanks unbox therapy!
why wouldn't they make use of that extra space and put a huge battery and quick charging in there? then it could double as a powerbank, a flashlight and conference speaker, all in one device.
back in the day when we used to have fun outside playing football
now kids these days just sitting on there ipads playing games
such a shame
iFootball, iTreeClimb, iThrowRocks etc.
Playing outside is too dangerous apparently...
xd
Well you must be in your 50 years old because the majority here 18-30 spent their childhood also in sitting playing games but not on iPads on NES and GBA or PS2. no offence mate but you are so old yu missed a whole generation after you.

ATBPjako true and games didnt have story modes or games that works on gaining XP it was just sinple games you get bored by the time you play it
Nice tide ad video editing Lew! make more of them if have the chance perhaps with Jack on it 👌🏼
You should do like throwback thursday and review vintage technology and explain the movimiento and stuff
Jack is real?

Lew, your channel is going to make me poor.
And I love it.

you will hear Jack say: 'remember when you used to get spam on a fax machine'
Man, I wish this had been out a couple of years ago. My daughter used to beg us to get her a smartphone and I used to joke that I was going to get her one of the old 80's brick phones. Of course, I'd have her open up the real cell phone eventually and I'd keep that big bad boy for myself, but the moment would have been priceless. XD
My brother watched this video, he asked me whats a phone button...
Lew has schizophrenia and he's imaging Jack

Kids
old brick phones didn't have such a big screen
Imagine we time traveled back to 1980's and give this phone to a random guy
This is *almost* awesome. If it had like a 10,000mah battery that takes up half the phone! SO MUCH EMPTY SPACE! USE IT!! *ONE YEAR STANDBY TIME!* :D
They have a 10000mah battery that last a month.
@@derrickforeal I'm buying the newest version. It has a 16,800 battery now. Big boi power.
Spam on the fax was so annoying XD
last song is Lee Fields, Wish You Were Here
+unbox therapy do a vid on the iPhone case that has a second back up tiny little phone which is slimmer than a credit card lou.
Jack should do a face reveal
The metal contacts are for the stand, that was included in my version (Germany)
1:30 seth rollins
hahaha
LOL! So true
i thought this thing gonna have 50k batery, but just 1k? wut?
It doesn't need a larger one, why waste battery capacity?
It could have 6 months standby time. In fact, it could probably have much more than that, since the functional part of it can all be made on a single chip, and the rest of the phone can be just battery.
I honestly thought this phone was just something that showed up in older films, like it’s not real but it’s popular in films
its actually the slim, brick, there was a fatter one my dad had
Just in case you're scrolling down hoping for a comment to say the name of the song, the song is called; *Wish you were here* by Lee Fields & The Expressions.

I guess you could always just replace the battery with a bigger capacity one yourself though.... maybe
Easy, string some 2200mAh cells together and jam them in there. Boom, couple months standby and a few days talk time.
***** Pretty sure the iPhone 5 has a standard talk time of a bit over 8 hours... and the 5S is a bit over 10 hours. Either way, you could very easily throw a larger battery in this phone to up the runtime.

I'll be needing this to fit in when I travel back to the 80s.....
Mentioned before, but that's actually a mini-SIM slot. Full size SIM is credit card sized.
5:10 "funs" category 😂😂😂😂😂
the brick comes also as a home phone with a 1km (0.6 miles) range.
Yeah, it sucks a ton, I've been looking for ones that function similar but to no avail, hopefully they either restock or I get lucky on ebay.
I remeber those being a lot thicker back in the 80's, they were also reported to give a realtor in Florida a brain tumor. Ahhh, memories!
Of course that is the down sized brick. The actual brick was the same width and height but twice the size front to back; about the size of a paving brick. They used to be programmed for the carrier in the store when you bought them. The brick and the early flip phones I could program by ear from the touch tones. I used to call out other sales people from across the department when they made a programming error as they were programming
I used to joke that the phone was good for emergencies because you could grab the antenna like a handle and bash your attacker over the head before you dialed 911.
We sold so many phones that US West installed a customer service terminal in our store to "activate" the phones so we wouldn't tie up the (800) number phone lines into their service center.
1:55 A pouch of Nothing. Have never heard any joke better than this on TH-cam.
Yeah, that one had me gasping for air, too..
It's about half the size of the actual phone that it is a copy of. They were almost four inches in depth. My uncle had one of these phones and has kept it as a novelty on his shelf for years. Also the way you handle it makes me think that it doesn't weigh at all what the original did. That thing is heavy.
Id love to have that on my desk, and to answer my phone calls
2:34 that looks like some legit camera shake so someone has to be holding the camera, probably jack. HE EXISTS
the cameras move all the time in these videos
lol Abracabra's trap phone, if you've heard his song 'Robbery Remix' you'll know

Great choice on the song
Lee Fields is awesome
Old cellphones looked like bricks, new cellphones look like roof tiles.

When I have kids and when they say "can I get a cellphone?" I'll get them one of these.
You should walk around using that phone and record peoples reactions! 😂😂😂😂😂
