You may think of Malagant and his rabble what you want, but he planned and executed three ambushes (this one, the one at the start of the movie and the one at the end on the castle) perfectly. This one is especially crafty and is such a WTF way to snatch a princess from a fortified castle without losing a single soldier.
No wonder Malagant was once the first knight of the roundtable! The man's a brilliant strategist. Of course, it makes no sense that a lady, let alone the future queen of Camelot would go outsight her castle's gate with such little protection. The least thing she would do is have him sent inside for an audience. Either way, the man must have been an incredibly valuable knight.

So stupid...... You would NEVER allow someone of value to venture outside the gate.....at NIGHT, for pete's sake.
Exactly, that made no sense whatsoever! Guinevere might have done so back in her own realm, which was smaller, but not as the future queen of Camelot.
