There is nothing like these vintages Citroens, in 1955 when the DS was introduced, it was an outrageous and extraordinary design, and very French. Your an artist and an engineer in your own right, I enjoy your videos and not just the French cars, but also all the vintage cars, thanks.
They're pretty expensive to restore if you pay someone to do the work; not much more than any other car if you can do it yourself. As usual, it is cheaper in the long run to buy the very best. I can do all of the work myself, so I can save cheap, rusty cars. Thanks for watching the vid!
my father had the same when i was young....it was the most popular car in France during the 70's !! souvenirs..souvenirs.. thanks for sharing and greets from Toulouse (France))
My sentiments exactly; it's the closest you can get to driving a piece of modern art. The shape is so compelling... even if it was terrible to drive, it would be a great car. The fact that it is such an amazing car to drive is just the icing. People who have never seen one are always amazed at its capabilities!
I still get that Citroën feeling when I drive my 1982 CX Diesel. Drove from Vancouver to Hope and back yesterday. No other car gives me that "Feel"Thanks for sharing your trip with us, mine still plays cassettes!
+Bas Van Der Hoek Hey, thanks for checking it out; always nice to meet other Citroen enthusiasts! Perhaps we will meet this summer at the Vancouver French / Italian car show? Cheers from me and Stella!
Hey Gunter! Glad you liked my video; makes it worth the effort of producing them! One of the reasons I did this video was to show C&D how a Citroen road trip could be done. I'm taking another trip in it this week! Going up north this time... probably do another video, too. Cheers!
What a trip! This video popped up and I’m glad it did. Having recently lost my two pups, Stella brought a tear to my eye. Thanks for a great escape, Be well
Scott, I somehow missed this video and was more than pleased to see how much fun you and Stella had. I loved the shot of her in the front during the boat ride. I suspect she's never had a boat ride before, but she appeared to handle it well. It's nice to see that you like cassettes too. I've got quite a collection of them. Like old cars, it seems that cassettes are making something of a comeback as well.
What a killer moment in time. Cruising through the Rockies in a classic car with your dog and jamming with the Stones. What a great memory. I know Stella is Poking down and smiling for when you’ll meet her. Hey Stella!
Hi! You are correct; the steerable headlights were not available in North America because of a standardization law that required all cars to use interchangeable headlights. I have a set of the steerable lights for the other DS I am restoring; they really add to the car, I think. Thanks for checking out the video!
Geoff! What a treat to hear from you! Glad you liked the Citroen; I didn't know you were into cars at all... If you're ever in E-town and looking for a chauffeur, I'd be honored to drive around one of our country's finest songwriters in the DS. I'm actually wearing my old "Triple T" shirt in one of these videos... All the best, Geoff, and continued success!
Bravo pour ce film et pour avoir restauré cette voiture ! Ce week end à Paris j'irai voir un défilé de 600 DS sur les Champs Elysées pour les 60 ans de la DS, je suis impatient !
Brilliant! Stella adds such class to any car she sits in - the DS? Of course! The Dodge hotel Limo? Wow! Her sitting like... well like Stella on the back seat of the limo with the shreds of headliner dangling down as if she had just enjoyed a hot night’s luvin on the back seat was memorable. Stella is gorgeous, no wonder you love her so much.❤️
Cool road trip for you and Stel. Never much cared for Citreons... always thought they looked kinda weird. But that wagon is pretty smooth! Didn't even know they made them. 👍
Thanks! They are the best road trip cars, I think. Always cool to hear from other DS drivers! I also have a '71 DSpecial completely dismantled for restoration; can't wait to finish it! Cheers!
I had forgotten this one but stumbled across it (by YT suggestion, no less!). What totally amazing, gorgeous country y'all have up there! Say, just who were those lovely ladies anyways? Chicks dig the Citroens. 🙂 This episode is a classic. No wonder it's pushing 100k views. Bravo. - Ed on the Ridge
Hey thanks! I painted it "Bleu d'Orient", an original Citroen colour. I did the roof in silver 'flake for a little sparkle. This car has been terrific; very reliable, especially when you consider that it is not a restored car. A little preventative maintenance goes along way with these cars. I still have the 604; I was going to redo it this spring, but then I got started on this DS, and I ran out of time for the Peugeot. I hope to get it going for next year!
One of my new favorite videos on all of TH-cam! Might have to document the road trip my buddies and I are taking to Speed Week this summer in my 1977 Cordoba!
Wonderful iconic DS Safari, complete with aerodynamic roof rack that does not whistle at 90 mph... Reminds me of my 1965 ID20 Safari in Australia. An amazingly fast and comfortable beast of burden. I had previously owned 6 - ID & DS sedans... Really hooked... Safari was particularly special.
Great road trip sir. Thanks for the ride. Wow, she must have been a quality built old ride. I didn't realize you were heading on a 2000k trip. Amazing...
Thanks very much for the kind words! You are correct; these old Citroens are actually very reliable, as are most old cars. A little maintenance is all that is ever required.
I thought Citroens were so ugly back when this car was new. Well, the sedans, anyway. I was on the fence when it came to these wagons. But, after getting a good look at them, they are on my list of cars to own. I'm a bit of a wagon guy, anyway, and this car is so cool. I really enjoyed this ride. Love looking down that long sloping hood. Another great video! Totally different Citroen, but I tried to buy a Dyane 6 a short while ago. It was just so different from anything I've ever owned. It ended up going to Edmonton.
man what a beautiful car. i'm a wagon kinda guy, first one was a 240 Volvo so this Citroen Classic is killer. thanks for responding to my question about the Safari .
+amsterdamgeorge2 Thanks so much for saying so! I love the old Citroen; I'll never take anything else on a long trip! So comfy! All the best from me and Stella.
I once drove my DS from Edmonton to High Level, got out and was immediately attacked by mosquitoes! Didn't like it there, got back in and drove it all the way back to Edmonton. Long day but I wasn't even tired! Truly like riding on a cloud with the wind at your back. Thanks for the video!
Wonderful! Thanks for combining two of my favourite things - the DS and the Rockies. I'd like to drive mine through the Rockies, but it's a bit tricky from the UK... ;-)
Tears in my eyes watching this. Stella really loved to ride. The car is a wet dream. I've owned a few wagons. '74 Datsun 510. 2000 Saturn LW. A few others thrown in. It's a shame that wagons have fallen from popularity.
I love this kind of thing...good job with mixing in the scenery with the story of the car. Keep up the maintenance and that DS will run fine, just as with any old car. I know my old Ford is that way.
awesome video man, reminded me of my road trip through BC about 20 years ago. The Ford Aerostar van we used for the trip was not as reliable as your DS!
Thank-you for checking it out! I am also restoring a 4 door sedan, but it's a big job when you have to do it all yourself... Cheers from us here at CWMC!
coldwarmotors I imagine. I've always liked the shape of the DS sedan. Do you still have the DS wagon? I've never driven, or ridden in one as a passenger.
Jason Carpp Oh yeah, I have no intention of ever selling the old girl! Once you have one, it's hard to go back to a "normal" car, haha. I hope to finish the sedan before too long, but I have a lot of projects...
Jason Carpp Lots of mechanical parts are, but most body parts you have to fix or make yourself. I think the DS is easier for me to get parts for than the Saab 99. Well, maybe not; they're both pretty obscure.
Coldwarmotors...just caught this video and it Brought smile to my face. I used to have a DS21 Safari here in Oz. I too bought it as 'wreck'...a big green frog that was sitting atop a mountain meadow hidden by long grass- when I got it going (rats had made their home on fuel lines and electricals) after jury rigging a fuel supply- It rose above the grass after ten years sitting forlorn. I loved that car. I too had my fluffies (my Chow Chow doggies) drive around with me- they loved the big wide windows and generous glass house. Cheers mate- brought back memories of good times.
love the sculptures in your yard real handmade of steel

I'm 16 and I really enjoy Citroens and I would always ride a Citroen rather than a boring designed VW. If my dad buys me one I will sure sell it. Great work! :D Cheers from Croatia :D
I had several of these, awesome cars! One tip, it sounds like the hydraulic pump is coming on every 5 seconds. That may indicate internal hydraulic leak or one accumulator low on nitrogen.
Hey, thanks, and thanks for checking it out! Agreed; today's meaningless safety-blob cars take all of the sense of adventure out of any road trip. Glad you liked the Evinrude footage; I wasn't sure whether to include it. I'm glad I did. Cheers!
Bloody Excellent. I hadn't seen this one before either ! Oh well, it's better this way -I suppose. But Yeah, you just have to love these old Citroen DS cars. We had quite a few over here in Blighty too: being so near to France ? I think some were built here too .But what a ride ! Quite something else, when everything's set up right. You HAD to get it to a Citroen mechanic over here, because they were the only ones who (were supposed to) know how to fix that suspension. Also I really enjoyed this one. A road trip. Great scenery. Definitely a fave.
Great vid drove a DS thrity odd years ago the guy I got it from called it (the gears) a manualmatic. Wonderful memories. J. Leno says it is a better ride than a Rolls Royce so true.
+john fred Hey, thanks for the note! I am a huge fan of these cars, too. Just such a piece of art and an engineering masterpiece, too! I'll never be without one now... Cheers from me and Stella!
Seeing Jasper reminds me of the trip I did in a Ford Tempo in '95, a hire car notable for its grey on grey interior. Came over from England. Best two weeks ever. Would've been even better in a DS.
Such a great tour, thanks for the 2,000 km.! If you ever head south east on a road trip I want to recommend a few places to see in the norther U.S.: in the n.e. corner of North Dakota, there is Car Crop, it's very impressive to see, it's not a typical car junk yard. The other place is in Alliance, Nebraska, home of Carhenge. Yes, it is what it says: Stonehenge made out of old cars! Worth the road trip, absolutely! cheers, Hunter... ArtCarWorld do t org
Seems to me a 1967 or 1968 D, because of the dubble headlights and the "old" door handles. But yet the new dash. I owned one back in 1973 and 1974. Drove it from Holland through Germany. Austria, the forme Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldavia, Ukraina, USSR to St. Petersburg. Took a ferry to Kiel-Germany and than back to Holland. Drove a 14.000 km without any problem. Just a half liter of oil. Great car! Good memories! Good old times! Now I am "old" but beard, no sandals.....
Late to the party but great movie! I have a 70's DSuper Berline. You might want to change the sphere on the main regulator, it was ticking a bit often when you came back home. But yours looks awesome, and the Safaris is getting rare.
Hey thanks, and thanks for checking it out! Yeah, I had to rebuild the sphere and the main regulator that winter... Luckily my friend still has all the equipment to recharge the spheres. Cheers from me and the girls!
Hey, thanks! Glad you liked it. I debated including the Evinrude footage; now I'm happy I did. As for C&D; I guess they think they can write about cars, but they sure can't figure out how to maintain or repair them.
Hi! I found the car locally, rusting away in a driveway. I repaired the body and some mechanical issues, but I did not modify anything.
1200 miles without a breakdown (especially through mountains) on a 40 plus year old foreign car is fantastic.
How great is that - I do like the way the Canadians have a proper easygoing attitude to stuff. An elegant car Monsieur !
Hello Gunter,
Thanks for the tip! These issues will probably be addressed over the winter...
Thanks for watching!

What a trip! This video popped up and I’m glad it did. Having recently lost my two pups, Stella brought a tear to my eye. Thanks for a great escape, Be well
I love the safari/break. Watching those cars float down the road from the back is just a treat.
Wow the Canadian Rockies are beautiful! I'm sure Stella isn't the first of her breed to take a road trip in a DS.
Scott,
I somehow missed this video and was more than pleased to see how much fun you and Stella had. I loved the shot of her in the front during the boat ride. I suspect she's never had a boat ride before, but she appeared to handle it well.

2000 kilometer road trip and not a single problem, truely a amazing car.
My admiration and respect for CWM always..
I laughed my arse off when "Craig ate the Stones" love you videos, you are a very skilled man. Fantastic work! 🙂👍👍
Génial ce petit voyage en Citroên DS break ! Voiture superbe, mangeuse de kilomètres, un plaisir de prendre l'air dans des paysages fabuleux !
Thanks! Always great to hear from other DS drivers! Glad you are enjoying yours as much as I am mine!

How great that you guys take care of old Citroens! My dad had 3 DS and we restored one together. Great meories.
Yes, she is quite the princess...she seems to think the DS is her car, and I am her chauffeur.
Thanks for watching!
You are truly artist with cars , your bodywork / metalwork just awesome . Really enjoying your videos

Hey, thanks for watching, and thanks also for those great destination suggestions! Cheers from Canada.
Hey, thanks for checking it out! I would take this old Citroen anywhere; its the most comfortable car I've ever had!

Thanks for the preservation of the french history.
You did a great job with this incredible car.Hope you have many more times with her.
+MrSebfrench76 Hey, thanks! Glad you liked it. Cheers from me and Stella...
Wish I was on that amazing trip. A true devourer of highways!! Greets from Portugal.
Hey thanks for checking it out... Cheers from Canada!
Citroën first participated in international motorsport events with its DS. It won very often, for example, at the Monte Carlo Rally (1959 and 1966)
Nice video of your road trip. My father just brought a blue 73 safari today, I was showing the kids what it looked like and your clip came up. Cheers
Thanks for checking it out! Cheers.

You should do some road trips next season.
Great! Let's keep these beautiful machines on the road for people to enjoy! Thanks for checking it out.
Rock on! Nice DS, I hope a Citroen finds it's way into my garage someday.
All these years on. Still one of my favourite car road trip videos and CWM videos.
Hey thanks! Just got back from a drive in the old DS...Still a treat!
Great road trip sir. Thanks for the ride. Wow, she must have been a quality built old ride. I didn't realize you were heading on a 2000k trip. Amazing...

a great scene - my son is in Colorado and I thank you for this Canadian trip. These days we have a hard time getting into your land.
Awesome trip thanks for taking us along Thank
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a beautiful car, and it has a sweet, retro look.
+bg147 Thanks! She is one of my favorites... I love this car.

that's a dream of a car, nice video, greetings from Belgium
Used to be a couple of these in a field next to Kawtikh retreat. That was 10 years ago I must add. Nice to see them on the road in North America !!!
Very special car, especially the stationwagon. I love it. And that's one lucky dog ; )
petergorm Was the typical ambulance in France in the 70s.
nice environment, nice People, and my dream car.Well done, give us more to see
I love this kind of thing...good job with mixing in the scenery with the story of the car.
Keep up the maintenance and that DS will run fine, just as with any old car. I know my old Ford is that way.
i just cant get over how good this car looks.
Thanks for checking it out! I am also a big fan of this sweetie... Cheers!
Thanks, and greetings from Canada!
coldwarmotors As always Stella is the Star of the Show! She is amazing! What a great trip and Great Fun, Love it!
Hey thanks; glad you liked it! It was a really fun trip that I will do again soon...
Hey, thanks, and thanks for subscribing! A Cordoba road trip sounds like a very good idea...
looking good, what a wonderful car. I had a 1969 Safari in dove gray and it lasted many years...
Scott from the FIshmongers!!!! It's Geoff. I love that car. It's like a beautiful French suit.
I got about 30 miles per gallon, which I was very happy with, especially compared to some of my other cars!
Doing the same trip in a month from Edmonton to Victoria, except in a 1985 Alfa Romeo Spider !
When your vehicle starts from the seat and pulls out of it's tracks, that is always a great road trip.
awesome video man, reminded me of my road trip through BC about 20 years ago. The Ford Aerostar van we used for the trip was not as reliable as your DS!

Excellent video, and scenery! My uncle had a Citro DS, and I have many fond memories of it, as he used to give us rides in it. Iconic model.
Thank you! Great to hear from other Citroen fans!

Did you ever document the restoration? The transformation is incredible!
Paperbag writer! We are so close to the same age it's not funny. You qualify as one of my all time favorite heros!
Thanks! I guess I could do a walk-around, but I'd have to clean the engine up a bit first!
