Thankyou for this it brought tears to my eyes. I'm in Napier and so many places I drove past a 1000 times, so many places I visited for decades, the orchards and fruit and vege shops I've supported for decades, the tranquility of Eskdale and the vineyards, the bridges we stood on as kids with a home made fishing rod hanging over the side, it's all gone just gone in 1 crazy night. Napier will never be the same again. The irony is we are known as a dry warm sunny city that gets blasted by hot north westers in summer with dry parched hills. Not this summer. Big hugs to everyone who has suffered this catastrophic event and a big thankyou to the power companies who despite the utter devastation of the power stations, managed to have power restored to most of us by 10.30pm Friday night 🙏❤

I'm heart broken. I've lived in Gisborne and Hastings, although I now live abroad, but some of the comments on here do not reflect the kiwi compassion I once knew. So many treat this is a joke. Some people need to grow up and get a heart or get off social media because they have become brain-dead. Love to my kiwi family ❤❤
Those sort of comments will always be around ...my bushfire was bigger than your flood type of mentality. It should be noted that at this time NZers have donated nearly 3 million, and rising, for flood relief ...by a population of only 5m.

Sooo..... As you can see, the forestry industry and the Government needs to take responsibility for it's lack of actions to clean out sites.

About 80% of the forestry companies in NZ are foreign owned.

@@diyguru9677 Overall, the ownership of forestry in New Zealand is diverse and includes a mix of private, government, and Maori-owned forestry land.
There is a HUGE downplaying of the impacts this will have for the ENTIRE NZ economy. It will take many, MANY years for the economy to recover, and many years for the people living it day today, to psychology recover. NZ needs all the prayers it can get🙏
Praying won't do shit. It's just your way to feel good. The "well I sat at home and prayed so I must be a good person" bs hasn't fixed anything. If your that upset. Go do something in person.
@@mvb88 I don't live in NZ, and until I see the majority of New Zealanders getting off their arses, I'll stick to my prayers thanks. As for financial assistance, that's what governments are for. Financial donations are absolute BS if the government isn't paying its way for their people, especially in a developed country that continually boasts of being the best in the world.

I noticed too much forestry debris was the cause of many bridges giving way.....that problem needs tending to....

Yes it's truely heartbreaking and one feels for all inpacted by these ever-increasing 'natural' disasters, but its becoming increasingly difficult for people to deny the severity of the climate crisis. Soon it will be near impossible.
