    Great job, I really need one of these.
    I like the idea of the bolt for indexing, and locking everything in place, last thing you want whilst working on a job is everything trying to swivel away from you.

    Hi again Dave, i have a
    new chance to set up my shop from scratch & i'll be
    stealing every idea i can
    use.
    If interested try building a
    Christmas carousel or
    ferris wheel, you have all the skills. They are fun &
    everyone loves them!😊

    • @DaveHarshberger

    Put the cord for your router over your shoulder from the back. It'll keep the cord from getting in the way all the time. Love this idea...

  • @BellyUpFishGarage

    How do you keep the cords from getting tangled?

    • @DaveHarshberger
      @DaveHarshberger  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I forgot to mention it in the video but I attached opposing blocks on the base and the carousel so that it can only make one complete turn. Jeremy Fielding's idea.

    nice job! Let me just ask one thing that has been in my mind throughout the video - why would you willingly use flathead screws? they are pain in the butt to work with

    • @DaveHarshberger
      @DaveHarshberger  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! For most of the construction I used deck screws. The only flat head screws used were for the roller bearings. If I recall correctly they were the only pan-head type screws I had on hand at the time. You're right. They are a pain.

    I have used swivel casters
    in place of the roller balls & it is so much quieter.
    Actually i have swivel casters on most of our
    furniture too to save the flooring. Wife likes to drag
    stuff all over!😁

    I love this concept but how will you keep the wires /cords from twisting when you keep turning the top?

    • @DaveHarshberger
      @DaveHarshberger  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Pat M Thanks. I should have covered it in the video, but I put stops between the carousel and the cabinet. The carousel can only make one full turn.

    • @craftychinurse5240
      @craftychinurse5240 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    You said you made changes to the original plans. Do you know what those changes were? And, what are the dimensions of this carousel? Thanks

    • @DaveHarshberger
      @DaveHarshberger  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The center pipe is 4" PVC allowing power cords to be run into the cabinet (Got that one from Jeremy Fielding) I put the scroll saw on a raised platform. Can't recall other changes, I think they were pretty minor. The top discs are 40" in diameter.

  • @MrBonners
    @MrBonners 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Suggestion. Rotating stand. Cut out only what you need of the right triangle in the disks to access the rollers. Mount small box for 'once in a while used' for the tools above tools/accessories, a few pull out pegboard panels for squares, protractor angle cut jig out flat mark-up tools/jigs. Pivot-out tall triangle bank of pullout drawers. Pull-out triangle box chest of drawers and more. Top disc can be a larger diameter, a few inches, like 6, adds a lot of 'set it down ' space, holes/hooks for tool hangers. PVC pipe to supply dust hose accest all tools from behind, increase pipe diameter as required, use of pipe diameter reducers, flanges...........

    • @DaveHarshberger
      @DaveHarshberger  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably not going to add much more to it at this stage. Although the triangle drawers are a good idea. Thanks!

    • @MrBonners

      Woodworkers can not abide a unused volume, especially a non-cube shape, allowing many opportunities to get creative.
      Good greatly customize the base unit for specific fields of work, scale up, scale down for large crafts to large model making, tool enters. Glue and assembly table. Many uses for a large rotating table that can be 'tucked away' with unlimited storage configurations.

  • @christianpaul5075
    @christianpaul5075 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    bloody good idea!

  • @Normal1855

    How did you run the power? I want to make this, but I don't want to run extension cords everywhere.

    • @DaveHarshberger
      @DaveHarshberger  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I forgot to address this in the video, but I mounted a power strip to the inside of the base with the cord running out of a hole drilled in the back leading to an outlet. Cords from the tools run down the center pipe to the power strip. I also installed a block on the underside of the rotating top that meets another block on the base. This insures that the top can only turn one full revolution and won't twist the cords. I got this idea from Jeremy Fielding - th-cam.com/video/Fj2BL9E0hio/w-d-xo.html

    Your dating your self with the meanies, and Pack-man. Nice build, how is the "work piece" flow around the machines, do you clearance at work machine to work on long or odd size projects?

    • @DaveHarshberger
      @DaveHarshberger  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. I have really enjoyed just having all these tools out and ready to go. There haven't been many issues with clearance.The drill press and the scroll saw are the only tools bolted down (opposite of each other) so I can move the others as needed.
      Not worried about dating myself, my geriatric status is pretty obvious ;)

    Great stuff! And great video editing, and humour! Thank you.
    Forgive me for my newbie question, but why cut out that "Pacman's mouth" (read, 90° cutout) when you can just turn it around and gain access to whatever is stored, that way?
    Is there something I am overlooking?
    Keep up your great work please.

    • @DaveHarshberger
      @DaveHarshberger  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you very much, Isa!
      Honestly, I was just following the original plans when I made the storage shelf. You could leave the shelf round, but I have found the cutout leaves space for my feet as that corner is where I position each tool for use. Without it, It is very possible that I could kick or step on the shelf.
      I've been known to be clumsy;)

    • @MrDirtysteve75
      @MrDirtysteve75 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you place plywood sides on the notches, when they line up the area underneath would be closed in. That would keep sawdust from coming in. It's a just like a lazy susan corner cabinet in a kitchen.

    I would make the platform inside the cupboard round, giving an extra 25% of storage surface.

    • @MrDirtysteve75
      @MrDirtysteve75 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The notch gives you a place to stand. Also, you could add plywood so that when the notches line up, the plywood keep sawdust from getting in. Just like a lazy susan as a corner cabinet in a kitchen.
