I have watched this video many times and once again just now. I love the SGP format. Start means go now and first across the line is the winner. Head to head racing. I wonder if you could make a club day out of this format using a handicap for the different types of gliders with a staggered start based on type. Would make for a fun day at any club and an introduction of this type of racing.

Looks like a mixture of fun and fear. I thought I was looking at a Star Wars video to start with, given the hoop in the cockpit.

Impressive. Remember Jerry Robertson getting a cage after hitting a barbed wire fence in Maria about 1972. I hit a fence in 1977 in Utah and ended up with 3 strands in my face. One broke, one ended up in my mouth and one across my throat giving me 9 stitches in my chin

Gary Kemp - thanks Gary. It was a trip I'll never forget! Racing is GREAT for soaring. One day, perhaps it will make a return to the SSA.

What's the glider? Never seen a modern-ish glider with tube frame in the canopy? The tube frame factory or aftermarket?

Rcbif this is an ASG29 in 18 meter! Glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching!

Rcbif the frame is an option made for protection against accidents involving power wires or fences in a forced landing

Thanks for the reply. I've heard a few stories of that nature - one ending in a hat knocked off, and one not so lucky.

Nice video Sean, what's the name of the thermal display on your panel?

      Hi Dalboe,
I am very sorry for the slow reply. I just noticed your comment. The square vario is my primary. That is called a ClearNav "Nav Display" Vario. They also have a round "simple" vario. Many use two but since they both do the same thing and the "Nav Display" does more, it doesn't make sense to me to have two of the same. That is why I have the LXNav S10 (see below). Link to the ClearNav "Nav Display" Vario here: clearnav.net/main/cn-vario_manual_xc_nav.html It is EXCELLENT.
The backup vario is the LXNav S10. Link: www.lxnav.com/products/lxnav-varios/s10.html It has a great flarm display, AHRS (optional) and is a certified Flight Recorder with full task navigation, airspace, etc. It is also EXCELLENT. The reason I use the ClearNav as the primary is that it is tightly integrated with my main system, the ClearNav 2, I think the CN2 is arguably the best when all factors are combined. Factors such as: USA made, ease of use, screen size and brightness, functionality, power draw, etc. I weight "ease of use" very highly, and it is truly simple. It is also proving EXTREMELY reliable.
      I hope this helps you.

That is the ClearNav digital (vs. analog) vario. It has a very useful thermal visualization tool. Its a great vario too.
