This is the first time I've ever seen this clip and I am astounded at this piece of pure magic imagery! The whole sequence is so flowing and flawless that you actually believe he is dancing on the walls and ceiling. Rivals anything that is done with a computer now days!
The thing that really impresses me about this video is how Fred actually puts his jacket on the couch in the beginning of the video, and then runs on the ceiling while it is still lying there.
The combination of the choreography, the mechanics of the revolving room, the timing required, and Fred Astaire's ability to pull this off without ever getting off balance and making it so smooth are incredible. The trial and error, imagination, vision, etc. required to decide what to incorporate into something that was so obviously unique astound me. This was a one time opportunity. I'm sure many takes were required, but the concept was a one timer...so what to include, or exclude from this particular dance to make it spectacular? Incredible level of creativity.
Many rehearsals ... And takes they didn't use till they got it right probably ... But it's one take, no editing together from separate film takes to get it perfect. So he had to do it perfectly, one time through from start to finish.
It's amazing how Mr.Astaire was able to do this dance routine in that revolving Hollywoodized idea of a "Fun House" barrel of fun..without breaking his neck, his legs or..his tushie.

How beautiful and magical it must have been to see this in a cinema in 1951. CGI has taken a lot of the magic out of cinema.
