A father who introduced him into skateboarding and taught him techniques, a family friend who mentored him, a best friend / rival who accompanied him everywhere in his youth, and a world-wide journey that helped him hone his skills, win recognition, and introduce him into the culture? Yuto is literally a shonen sports manga protagonist. And I think that's wonderful. EDIT: Then we get a comradery with the most dominant skater in the world, the Olympics itself where Yuto's dad steps out to avoid jinxing his son and prays for his victory at the old bridge where he once brought Yuto to skate, a reflection of reputation and propriety and the fight for respect, an impossibly thin margins for success, and a glorious run to victory. You can not make this up.
❤Impossible not to tear. My eyes are wet and my vision is blurred and my nose is stuffy. So much emotion especially at the end for every skater competing.
