The timer in the dualit has a clutch in it so there is no worry about damaging it, everything is replaceable as well, I was given my grandparents dualit they got as a wedding gift and it’s still working all these years later

Thanks - I enjoyed your review very much. I had a Dualit for many years, and it had thick and thin sections, so accommodated bagels better. Also, and this is a big thing for me, when the heating element eventually failed I was able to buy and install a new element cheaply and easily myself. I now have a beautiful looking DeLonghi that has a partially broken element. The spare part costs more than a new toaster, which is ridiculous. I think all new appliances should come with a 'how fixable?' rating. That would certainly encourage buying much more sustainable products, instead of disposable ones.

Wow, thanks for sharing that info about the delonghi, its also why I like the dualit. I do agree on the "how fixable" as well. Consumer reports.

I've tested and used a lot of toasters, the perfect toaster does not exist, and that's disturbing considering how primitive it is compared to a smart phone, I really don't understand why engineers just can't come up with a decent design!

We have 3 kids and used to go through toasters every year. Unfortunately, most are not fixable so was trowing out and buying new frequently. Then, looked online for a fixable toaster and found the Dualit. Decided to pay the price and I don't regret it. 3.5 years in , had to change the timer (and yes, I think you are breaking it when cancelling, don't care what the manual says) but at least, a relatively cheap fix and the toaster still runs perfect!

I bought a used Dualit on eBay, I thought I could not justify the price tag for a new unit here in Canada (close to $400 with taxes) for a toaster. The bagel function is used quite often so I was happy to see they now had models with that function and it had been long enough that some people wanted to sell theirs on eBay.
I was not expecting the metal to be this thick, the shiny metal is sheet metal, but the rest is cast aluminium, I disassembled everything and gave it a good wash and it looked brand new. I really appreciate the "Peek & Pop" function, I thought it was a bit stupid that it did not go up when it's done, but now that I am used to it, everytime I make toast elsewhere I am definitely missing it.

"One slice" is for when toasting only one slice, otherwise the toast will overcook on the other side.

    • @emerickscott
      @emerickscott 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

nope. it's because that is the side with the trip switch, so there always needs to be something in that side. hence if you're only doing one slice you need to do it in that slot.

My parents have 2 Sunbeam toasters that were given to them as wedding gifts back in the late 50s. They are both still working and going strong. I love the deco design and the way the toast comes up when it is ready. That being said, I am considering the SMEG just because it has that same retro design and SMEG appliances are quality appliances (full disclosure, I’ve never owned a SMEG). If you have to have an appliance out on your counter, I say go with SMEG.

Obviously how brown an item will be toasted will depend on how wide the item is and therefore how close to the toasting filament that item is. I think that the only way to get by this would be to have some type of distance sensor which was linked to the filament that adjusted how much heat was being put out by the filament depending on size. I guess that this would add cost to the toaster price.

I got the dash toaster before watching this review and I agree it is weak but I just pull the lever again ha. I always tend to want to start toasting sooner than everything else is done so it’s okay if it sometimes needs an extra round of toasting. We had one of those Sunbeam toasters for my entire childhood and more - it worked flawlessly for nearly 35 years!
Most recent was that green Smeg - it's not great at covering the entire slice, the internal mechanism is fragile and it's incredibly difficult to clean stuff out of the bottom. If a piece breaks off some bread that's larger than a crumb it will get wedged in the bottom and not removable via the very shallow crumb tray. PRactically needed to dismantle the unit to properly clean it up. Not recommended.

You didn't use the Breville four slice toaster correctly. Simply lower the slice if bread, move the LED lever beyond the 50% mark. The 70% mark gives you an even browning on both sides. A few trials will break you in to its quality.
Not interested in toasting bagels. For the price, Inthink it's worth it.

Very Good Review for the most part I liked it a lot one of the better Toaster Reviews on You Tube however the only thing that I didn't like and critique was that they didn't show the Dash Toaster on higher level setting's thus to show it's Toasting even ness, "For what ever implied reasons" I can only guess:
    - Wanting to (with personal biases) encourage the other more expensive and charming metal toasters?
    - Implying the the hotter it gets the maybe more the plastic leaches, mildly melts and and fumes, into the Toast ultimately?
    - Scared that it would steal the show (because it's cheaper), with it's awesome cool innovative window, vs the charming metal classic and artistic exteriors of the other toasters?
-___________ your guess is better than mine?
Personally just got the Beeville bit more larger 4 toast, toaster off Amazon this week and very mixed feelings about it,
it toasts very unevenly with the middle of the toast being not toasted at all and a little more than the edges being burnt.
Huh, Worth Approx $100? Not Shure if there are redeeming values that proceed them selves in aspects I can only speculate and guess (with maybe a cretin and lamins tasting palette) like for example the insolation of the toast and the steaming, Ie aka the nature of the heating of the whole toast internally, might be at least a little bit better than most some how? I say this becasue the toast turned out kind of pretty good and tasty per say sort of hard to tell (maybe it's just fresh etc..), just not golden brown perfect and even toasting on the outer layer, those things are the only redeeming value aspect's that I can possibly think of along with all its other innovative features etc (that ultimately mean little to nothing if the primary final result of the toast is sub par etc).... , most likely going to return it and wonder if it was refurbished and or used (because also when looking internally at all the coils Very, Very uneven), even thought on Amazon it indicates Qoute "New"!
-Maybe some people think that they like uneven toast for a varied experience in the bites and textures? Little bit of
golden brown here then just this or that there etc who knows?

The Sunbeam is the only one that will go UP in value, and last for decades. Plus it has a timeless design (also make a great talking point, if you are interested in design and engineering) Down side is they are not so safe in terms of electrical insulation and the shell heats up a fair bit too. Personally I don't toast bagels so I can't see myself ever needing to buy another toaster in my lifetime.

I use a toaster oven. Toasters are stupid.

My Dualit is crap. Inconsistent performance, and now after only a couple of years - broken. Expensive junk.

After less than 4 years mine has a timer problem. It gets stuck and keeps on toasting… I read a lot of Dualit toasters have that problem. British quality?

You two are too "wishy-washy" in your reviews. Make up.your minds...is lt is simply "good" or " not good." That's all we want. Don't drag us all over the park, please.

The thing is that all toasters will get the job done.
