Making a Plywood Suitcase

- This Rolling Suitcase is made from a 100cm x 150cm 8mm thick plywood. I used the extendable pull from an old suitcase, the wheels are made from plywood with Fidget spinner bearings. I used some Veg tan leather for the carrying handles. For the finish, i used 3 coats of water based poly. The total weight is 6kg which is not that bad. Thanks Jonny! There are so many amazing furniture projects in this challenge It would be impossible for me to make something that could compete. So I had to come up with a different thing. Love your chairs and coffee table BTW!
Looks nice... Definitely a piece of baggage that you would never check with the airlines though since it look ruined after it went through a single flight with the baggage handler apes (reference to the old American Tourister commercial).
I've considered making a piece of luggage for checking in with the airlines though. Something that would take the maximum length+width+height that the airlines allow and get the maximum volume out of it. That should be a cube. For carry-on luggage, I find that completely soft sided (i.e. no frame) works best since it can always be squeezed into the available space in the overhead compartment.

Ollari's I think I’ve seen a similar design with darker veneer inlays in a light wood and it looked gorgeous.
I bet! But inlay is too difficult for me! :)
If you would take a veneer as the inlay it might be even easier than painting. :-)

So beautiful! I’d hate to see how badly it gets beaten up after a few flights. I’d imagine the plywood is plenty strong. I’m thinking of the splintering of the edges from being dropped on the tarmac and thrown in the tug carts. I worked as a ramper to pay my way through college. They totally abuse luggage because of turnaround time. The have to move fast.
